    What to Expect
The Sunrise Safari is our recommend trip of the day. The ocean is always much calmer in the early morning and the wildlife is more active. Your tour begins with a relaxed and informative introduction briefing, preparing you for your safe and fun adventure on Akaroa’s stunning extinct volcanic basin waters. After your briefing, your experienced local guide will prepare your kayak for launch onto the water. Comfort and safety is always a priority. Under the watchful eye of your guide you will paddle out through blue waters escaping from the crowds, noise of other boats, the hustle and bustle of normal life,

You will paddle through the reserve while your guide points out places of interest and any wildlife activity that they discover.

You will engage with nature and beautiful serenity of sea kayaking during the most peaceful time of the day before the tour boats are on the water.  Your guide will provide an on water snack while sharing stories about this special marine reserve . Through out the Safari the massive scale of landscape will amaze you, and it is a once in a lifetime experience paddling through an extinct sea flooded volcano basin which is inhabited by endangered mammals. You will have the change to have close encounters with hector dolphins, white flippered penguins, NZ fur seals and Orca if you lucky!

Your guide can answer any questions that you may have.Your kayaking adventure comes to an end when you land back onto the beach you left a few hours before. You will feel inspired, relaxed, rejuvenated, and fulfilled about what you have seen and experienced. You will also have the opportunity to take home photos of your day

Thanks so much for your lovely review Tracey, we so appreciate you taking the time to write that out for others to read and we are so happy you enjoyed your tour with us, we do everything we can to protect our precious environment and surroundings and love to show people around our beloved marine reserve and educate them about conservation and our endangered mammals which reside here in the reserve. We pride ourselves on providing a 5 star experience and that is why we travel in small groups, this also has minimal impact on the wildlife which leads to incredible sightings as the creatures are not intimidated by us as we have no engines, noise or pollution from boat engines. Thanks again Allie & Greville

Before we get into the details, we must say that our guide Jake did a great job saving a misleading tour. Everyone on our tour and the tour after was led to believe that we would be able to view Hector dolphins. THERE ARE NO DOLPHINS AND SIGHTINGS ARE RARE. We later learned

We are very disappointed to read your feedback. Hector dolphins are endangered but sightings are common but of course not guaranteed as they are wild. They are not traced, fed, chased or followed in any way so therefore there is always an element of luck with sightings. The information you have is false, they reside in the harbour all year and sightings are common, I think if you scroll down through the reviews many other participants have been lucky to see these amazing mammals during their tours. We are not solely 'dolphin viewing kayaking' we are lucky enough to have a multitude of different wild life species that we may encounter along the tour with hector dolphins being just one of the species mentioned. It is disappointing people such as yourselves believe it is a 'RIGHT' of theirs to view these special creatures just because they enter the water on a kayak. Viewing any wildlife is a privilege and the uncertainty adds to to how special it is when you do experience an encounter. Our guides provide exceptional tours and it is a shame your closed mind meant you were not able to enjoy the rest of the beauty of this incredible marine reserve.

Jake was an excellent tour guide. He was very professional, very serious about his job, and he was very conscientious of our safety. We could tell that he had done a great deal of research on the marine life in the area, so he shared knowledge with us throughout the tour. He
