We took the tour with the guide named Philip. It was an amazing experience! Absolutely worth it. It was not only informative but also an excellent way to see the Buda Castle. Philip the guide was outstanding truly and kept us full of interest and excitement. Also, we took the tour around 8 pm and the view of the light lit city was breathtaking.Totally worth it.

Tour in Budapest. Absolutely thrilled that I booked this tour. What a fantastic experience! Balínt, our guide, was informative, charming and humourous. He is an exceptional storyteller and had everyone’s full and rapt attention at all times. Would thoroughly recommend wrapping up warm and doing this tour!

      Trip highlight
Incredible experience, a definite trip highlight. Wasn't sure what to expect but had been recommended by a friend. Balint is an amazing storyteller, really animated and knowledgeable whilst still being funny and relatable (the retreat of the Turkish being the words biggest nope 😂). 2 hour tour round the castle accompanied by vampire lore and creepy history whilst looking out on Budapest at night all lit up. Loved every minute, thank you!

Great tour with in the Castle Walls
We (family of 4 inc 2 teens) did the Bloody Tales from within the Castle Walls on the 14th Feb. We all loved it. Our guide, Balint, was fantastic and kept us entertained throughout. We all agreed it was one of the best guided tours we have been on. Would highly recommend

Great experience. Well worth the price.
Joe is a fantastic narrator; his inflection and mannerisms are value added. Tour the castle district while hearing the lore of days gone bye.

a fun, informative & enjoyable evening
Booked as a surprise for my partners birthday - we had a lot of fun - the storyteller was great - he was funny & entertaining. We heard lots of weird and wonderful stories as we explored Budapest by night which I really enjoyed - it was thunder & lightening which added to the atmosphere

      Well done tour!
I had my tour with Fenny which is Hungarian but has an impeccable English accent. The group was probably about 20. She was an excellent storyteller immersing you in the past and the stories. I would recommended plus it’s s good way to become familiar with the Castle District. Beautiful at night...less crowds

      Brilliant experience
Me and my partner went on this we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, it was very informative, interesting, and there was some good stories. To top it off we had a brilliant guide who knew what she was talking about and gave us free bus passes to get back to the hotel and made sure we knew where we were going. Deffinitly worth the money.

      Fun
Fanni was my guide and I enjoyed her history tour as we walked up to the Castle around the winding slopes with stops along the way for more history snippets and fabulous views of Pest lit up. As we continued around the Castle different history tales were told and as we moved onto the Fisherman's Bastion, the history moved itself on to Dracula which was very interesting also. Once we made our way round the streets of Buda, the legends/myths stories started to come out and were also interesting folklore tales. The whole tour is a fun tour with amazing views from Buda. I enjoyed it and I even enjoyed the bus ride back down... bit like a rollercoaster to finish : )

A great and different look Budapest with a fantastic storyteller to boot
This tour does an incredibly good job at sharing the history, legends, and myths that aren't talked about in the run of the mill tours in Budapest - and I know this from experience having done 3 commercial tours prior to attending this Mysterium Tour. Special applause goes to Fanny for going above and beyond the night of our tour as she needed to navigate away from a local protest and march that was heading our way at the Presidential Palace in Buda where 200+ armed police in riot gear were waiting for the onslaught of protesters. All of that didn't sway her professionalism or her storytelling. Everything she did that night was incredibly perfect! After Fanny got us back to the Zero Marker where we started my friends and I walked back to our hotel. Fanny's storytelling stuck with me through that 15 minute walk and I couldn't help that spooky feeling all the way to my hotel room (which, in my book, means the amount of money I spent on this tour was well worth every Forint). TOUR TIP: There is a restroom (300 HUF or 1 EUR for entry) near the Zero KM Marker where you meet your tour guide. It's to the left and behind the funicular. Take note to use that restroom prior to going on tour as that may be the only one available at that time of night. Also take note of when it closes.

The tour was very interesting and enabled me to wander around the Castle District of Budapest taking photos of the area and its buildings and statues at night. The tour itself took around two hours which, whilst at a leisurely pace, I found overstretched the story-telling somewhat. Although the host Joe was quite entertaining, by the end of the tour I found myself becoming a bit tired of the histrionics and felt that the stories were becoming a little tedious. Maybe it's just me but I would have preferred a bit more information about the buildings and the true history of Castle Hill and less about the myths and legends.

We booked this tour fairly last minute wanting something different to do on our last night in Budapest. I can highly recommend this walking tour if you like great views and want to hear some scary stories and history you may not get elsewhere on other tours. Our guide, Fred, who told us he was new to this tour, was very professional and kept the group entertained with great storytelling and interaction. The tour took in a fair bit of walking in the hilly castle district of Buda but we were given plenty of times to stop and rest. The views of the city were to die for. What we really came for however was the stories and history which were surprising to us if you thought you already knew your “Vampires”. This was carried out admirably by Fred our guide even though parts of the tour were in very busy and noisy parts of the area with a lot of other people passing by. All in all a good two hours well spent and recommended.

This is a superb activity if you're looking for something a bit different to do in Budapest. Our tour guide, Joe, was absolutely fantastic. He thrilled us with tales of Hungary's terrifying past whilst also providing historical details and fun facts about the castle district. Joe took his time to ensure that everyone felt welcome and was well looked after. You have the option to take the Funicular to the top of the hill if you'd prefer to skip climbing the steps (which were very manageable) and miss only one story. It was wonderful to see the castle district and the views of the Parliament building lit up at night and a great chance to take photos at a quieter time of the day. The only downside was that our group was quite large, it would have been easier with smaller numbers. A thoroughly fascinating, unique tour which we won't forget!

The guide, Bernadette, had a great voice and pronunciation, and presented the stories lively and engaging the audience. The paths between the stories (all of which were very interesting) were also well feasible for unsportsmen. The stories were always historically sound and a print was always made to Budapest.
Walking through the castle in the evening had a great atmosphere and was given enough time to take photos.

Joe was an incredibly charismatic and engaging storyteller who made this an exceptional experience for everyone involved. Very accommodating for all levels of fitness, though keep in mind there is still a moderate level of walking.

Visiting from Ireland for three days, we had booked this tour about a week in advance. We did not know what to expect, but when we met at the Zero Kilometer Statue just below the castle we were immediately greeted very warmly by Joe. Over the next hour and a half, he brought us to numerous sites within the Castle District, gave us interesting historical facts about the landmarks, and plenty of old stories about vampires and other undead creatures.

Myself and my partner were very happy with the experience and it gave us a wonderful fondness for the castle, the capital, and the country altogether. Highly recommended!

No where near enough effort made. Amateur night.
30 odd people all paying around £20 so £600? For two hours.
You get 1 guy with an old hat and a black velvet waistcoat telling stories from history about people being buried with their shoes and the odd weirdo being buried with a brick in his mouth.
These stories might have been better if we could have heard him or if he had any sense of theatre or drama. Waving your hands and making loud pretend vampire laughs does not really cut it, in my opinion.
The advert shows 3 vampy dressed actors leading you to believe it is an imersive event with surprises along the way. There was none. I truly hope my review helps people avoid this truly boring old clap trap as it really isn't anything like it promises to be.
There's much better ways to spend your time and money in Budapest.

Me and my husband were visiting Budapest and ended up going for a different type of walking tour. We wanted to do something different.
It ended up being such a fun time, our guide, he wanted up to call him Dave, was such an awesome entertainer and explained well the areas and the stories behind them. That night was so cold and yet he managed to make the group tour laugh and crack a few smiles from time to time, he was also easy to talk with and managed to make you imagine the scenarios of the stories he was telling.
    We had a great time!!

A wonderful, interesting, spooky, and funny tour. We loved our storyteller(and possible vampire himself) Fabian. He did an excellent job at engaging us and making sure we felt a part of the stories. Not only we were able to learn about Vlad the impaler and Dracula, but also many other spooky tales of Hungary/Budapest. I would 100% recommend this if you are looking for a beautiful evening walk filled with sight seeing, great stories, and even possibly seeing a vampire. Wonderful tour Fabian!

This tour was really interesting, would highly recommend to people who love to hear gruesome and spooky historical tales of Hungary! The guide Joe was very engaging, his audience was extremely captivated and he had a good sense of humour, as well as trying to make the tour as spooky as possible. It was lovely to walk around the castle district, and I like that there were stories from all over Hungary, not just around the Budapest region.

A warning for people who have low mobility, there are quite a few stairs leading up to the castle district at the start, however Joe was very good at trying to make it as easy for everyone as possible by encouraging people to let him know if we were walking too fast, and by stopping for a story on the stairway half way up to give everyone a break. He would also stop in places near spots where people could take a seat during the tour.

Joe was an amazing guide and storyteller you have to go on this tour if in Budapest. We had booked a tour for 2000 but got the offer to go on the 1945 tour due to numbers and we think we made a great choice, the way he broke up the walking with little tit bits of info and comedy was golden, his language and accent were on point and he had us from the first word to the last. The value for money on this tour is second to none, this is a well thought out tour not just a wander and some stories, well worth booking and we will be coming again when we return.
