What to Expect
Depart your Prague hotel for the approximate 2-hour drive to the Elbe Sandstones Natural Reserve by air-conditioned minivan. Wi-Fi is provided on board. Stop first at the Tisa Rocks to admire the high rock pillars—some weathered into unusual shapes—and tour the passageways, learning how Tisa was featured in The Chronicles of Narnia movie. If you wish, visit the rock tops for panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Next, enjoy a Czech lunch at a quality restaurant, savoring traditional fare alongside an optional beer from a local microbrewery. From here, continue to the German side of the Elbe Sandstones and Bastei rocks: towering sandstone pinnacles that soar above the Elbe River, linked by a narrow stone bridge and fortress. Follow the trails to viewpoints overlooking the mountain-ringed Elbe canyon and Konigstein Fortress. In good weather, enjoy stunning sunset views. Your trip then concludes at your Prague hotel.

The hike is a little less than 10 miles with the trails being well maintained, a gradual incline for the first hour or so, then downhill to the canyon and boat ride. The walking is at a comfortable speed with breaks. I was in a small group of 6, all over 50, a few in their 60s, and everyone was comfortable. The guide did a great job taking care of everyone and making sure we were safe, comfortable and happy. Hope that helps.
