About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Skeney570 contributions4 Decades of Change! With 40 years separating visits we were both surprised how little Tyrell's Wines had changed. The main difference was the requirement to pre-book your visit and the charge to taste their wines. With the next available spot over 30 minutes away, we strolled the grounds and set up at a picnic table under a shady tree and had morning tea. Most pleasant sitting in the shade looking over the vines, watching the skips bringing in the grapes & having a cold beer. Bliss for a non-wine drinker!Written 20 February 2025
- Allan E0 contributionsGreat way to spend afternoon discovering fabulous wine!!Wonderful wine tasting through the Tyrell range, great way to spend an afternoon!! Fully guided by Scot and additional service of lift to hotel at end of day. Thanks Scot, can't wait until next visit.Written 31 January 2025
- JohnB9840 contributionsGreat wines, lovely views and a fantastic experienceAn amazing team supported our wonderful wine tasting - lots of stories and great information about the wines. This winery is a must visit when in the area.Written 31 May 2024
- 12GailL0 contributionsNot truly dog friendlyJust wanted to express our sincere disappointment that despite you being marketed as "dog friendly " you really weren't. We booked in for wine tastings, and hoping to buy numerous bottles, however our dogs weren't welcome inside the cellar door and your hostess wasn't prepared to offer tastings outside. Therefore we couldn't win. Unfortunately we were spoilt at other wineries where the dogs have been welcome inside. They just sit under our table peacefully without disturbing others. So being "dog friendly " means more than allowing a dog through the gate - in our point of view. We have asked for a refund of our tasting booking which has been done.Written 22 March 2024
- KurtR17080 contributionsExtraordinary experienceAs someone who is into wine, my wife had been very much looking forward to our tasting at Tyrrell's. We felt lucky to have had Zac guide us through the variety of wines produced in Hunter Valley. Not only was he extremely knowledgable, but he was very personable taking time sit and talk with us about wine, pairings, the weather, or whatever else popped up in our conversations. As helpful and friendly as Zac was, the tasting wouldn't have been as memorable as it was if the wines were not of such good quality. We had the chance to sample 10 with our tasting, and ended with the problem of choosing which ones we wanted to take home with us most. I would recommend a tasting at Tyrell's to anyone looking to find a good Semilon in Hunter Valley, anyone looking to have a personalized experience with an experienced winemaker, or anyone simply looking for an enjoyable day in the area.Written 1 March 2024
- RussellJJordan0 contributionsBirthday surpise!I would like to say a huge thankyou to Richard, the Cellar Door Manager. I was in transit from Brisbane...on my birthday...and decided on a Semillon tasting to celebrate. I enjoyed Richards company and the wine tasting was exceptional, acknowledging the generational excellence of my most favourite variety. Thank you to Tyrells for making my day.Written 12 February 2024
- 420gilliand0 contributionsTop quality winery! This was our second visit to Tyrell’s Winery in the last year. We were there last year over Easter and had a fantastic wine tasting experience with Matilda. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and the quality was fantastic. She allowed us to try a lot of wines and talked through each one. We returned today and had Richard look after us. He too was excellent, sharing his knowledge of the wines and giving us a generous taste of plenty of good ones! An iconic Australian winery and family. A must do when visiting the Hunter Valley.Written 7 January 2024
- SamSydney20130 contributionsLearnt very little! Wine tasting should be for all!Amazing place, but very disappointing tasting. It was a hot day and we were travelling, so I was low on clothes. I was in shorts, tennis shoes and a green shirt. I do have chocolate skin. I got judged immediately. The lady immediately passed me on to someone else and would not do the tasting herself. The guy insinuated that I was here to get sloshed and I wanted to know if I was from the western Sydney. It was one of my first tastings. I was excited until I soon realised that I had been judged. I was there to learn and got very little info and often ignored for an older couple nest us also tasting. Regardless, I paid for the tasting and bought the desert wine for $80. I am still quite miffed as to why I was so ill treated. My neighbour was a sales rep for Tyrells and one of the reasons for trying it out.Written 14 November 2023
- MarkRosa0 contributionsVery nice tastingScott looked after us and he was excellent, he was extremely knowledgable about the wines and the history of Tyrrell's. We enjoyed all of the wines, especially the Vat ones that Scott gave us some of. Well worth a visit.Written 30 October 2023

- clairebC721GT0 contributionsGreat, unrushed tasting experienceA great, unrushed tasting experience with lots of information provided on the different vintages, blends and the tastes coming from the different soils and locations. A beautiful winery to visit that also has BBQs in the grounds.Written 8 August 2023
- 365izzya0 contributionsWonderful wines & fantastic staff a Hunter Valley highlightThis experience was a highlight of our trip to the Hunter Valley. The wines were gorgeous, but a point many wineries miss is that it is those that lead the tasting that make the difference. Tyrells had experienced individuals leading the tasting that actually cared about the wine produced and took pride in the quality of the vintages. At the end of the day, paying for tasting levels the playing field and removes the guilt. If those leading the tasting lack the experience and skills to inspire I'm not going to purchase. Tyrrels were informative, knowledgeable and took pride in the wines on offer and the service they delivered. Would definitely recommend.Written 15 July 2023
- judithbN8331PP0 contributionsPinnacle of Wine Making in Pokolbin!Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wine tasting, a truely memorable experience. Being the oldest winery in the region the Tyrrells Estate is teeming with history and significant ongoing family heritage, including the original house (shack)positioned in pride of place near the tasting rooms! They should really consider creating a museum! We managed to be graced with a walk around the old and new stores and production areas. A true privilege! Our tour and wine tasting experience was wonderful with Andrew devoting his time to our needs and education! Thank you. Would highly recommend.Written 1 July 2023
- 805kevinOlder0 contributionsExcellent Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut Sparkling WineBeautiful vineyard, views of the valley and mountains. A sign on the door had awarded this Tasting Room the Best among larger vineyards. The Sparkling wine was excellent as had excellent flavor (fruity and light Chardonnay taste). After tasting we bought two bottles. Scot, our wine staff member taking care of us, remembered us from about four years ago with another couple, that traveled with us and was their first trip to Australia. He was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and a nice sense of humor. While there, we met the owner, Bruce, who had stopped by to see how all was going. Very nice man as friendly and we chatted a bit.Written 7 March 2023
- sarahcF5282XI0 contributionsExcellent wines, enjoyable tastingNice afternoon, really good wines and knowledgable but hands off (in a good way) staff who left us to enjoy the wines without being pushy.Written 4 February 2023

We popped into Tyrell’s (calling just half an hour before to book) for wine tasting. The winery is well maintained and the surroundings are beautiful. We couldn’t fault the service we received. Steph was amazing! We could have sat and chatted to her for ages! Super educated on the wines, but also an all round nice girl to chat to! We truly feel she made our experience great. We tried several delicious wines and eventually decided on one to purchase. We were walking from our accommodation and Steph kindly offered to fill our water bottles. The wine bottle bags were also extremely sturdy and we are pleased to report that our wine made it back safely! 10/10 winery.
