Overview
See where major scenes from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were filmed during this 4.5-hour Hobbiton movie set tour from Rotorua. Visit the North Island sheep farm chosen by director Peter Jackson to depict the Shire, scattered with charming hobbit holes, such as the earthen home of Bilbo Baggins. Hear fascinating stories from your guide on each epic series as you snap photos of your favorites sights from Middle-earth.
What to Expect
Step foot into The Lord of the Rings movie set on a half-day Hobbiton tour, starting with hotel pickup in Rotorua. After a 45-minute drive through spectacular North Island scenery, arrive at the Hobbiton movie set, located in Matamata. Then follow in the imagined footsteps of your favorite characters as you explore this working New Zealand sheep farm.

See where the movie series began as you snap photos in front of places used as hobbit holes in the film trilogy and The Hobbit series, such as Bilbo Baggins’ home.

Your guide points out LOTR favorites, such as the party tree, the pond, the mill, and the Green Dragon Inn before your return to Rotorua.

Please note: The Hobbiton movie set is still in use for an upcoming movie that’s in the process of being filmed. Because of this, you may be required to sign a confidentiality agreement to not publish any images that you take during your tour.

Must visit!

Big Fan!!

As a big fan of the Hobbit and TLOR, I can't find a word to express my excitement. I felt like my dream came true and felt like I was part of the movie.

Hobbiton is one of the must visit places to go when you're in NZ

The movie set was soo picturesque that you felt you're in the movie itself. Pictures taken are well deserved to be use as your phone, tablet or desktop wallpaper. The souvenir choices could be better...

The Shire is a private farm and I don’t believe you can drive the property on your own. There are buses that would take you to the actual site which is around 1 km from the Entrance. It is recommended to book your tickets... More
