About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- CMC19520 contributionsGreat small tour guidePaul was a great tour guide. He had a thorough knowledge of the area and provided excellent commentary. When our arrival plans changed he was easy to contact and was very accommodating. Awesome experience.Written 14 March 2023
- Go314681197400 contributionsFantastic day out.Fantastic day and our tour guide Paul was so knowledgeable and friendly. He took great care of us and ensured we had a perfect day.Written 3 January 2023
- Judyholiday0 contributionsDefinitely one of the highlights of our NZ tripWe loved our tour with Paul from 'A Grand Day Out Tour' - we booked a few months ago, and Paul kept us updated along the way with any changes or preparations for our day. When the day of the tour arrived, the other 6 tourists could not go (their cruise ship was late) but Paul did the whole tour just with the 2 of us anyway - he was friendly, chatty and highly informative, and we stopped at various great spots along the way - scenery, art deco, wine, chocolate and honey all included and explained by our lovely guide. We'd do it again in a blink!Written 2 December 2022
- Inspire443216867490 contributionsSurpassed all expectations, strongly recommendedPaul met us at our motel with a nice, clean and comfortable mini bus with a bottle of water for each of us. He is a very friendly and pleasant person with good knowledge and went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed the afternoon. His choice of vineyards to visit was excellent and we had a great time at each of them. If you fancy doing a wine tour (or one of the other tours he provides) I strongly recommend Paul for an enjoyable day out.Written 20 November 2022
- Barbara F0 contributionsWanted the 3 winery I paid for.One of the Wineries was closed, so only went to 2. We were are on a nice bus, unfortunately our driver was very new and got lost.Written 12 November 2022
- 312jennil0 contributionsThe highlight of our New Zealand Holiday.Paul the owner/ operator of the tour gave us his extensive background knowledge to Napier and surrounding districts. Despite my living in Napier in the 70's I was not aware of 25% of the information Paul provided in a Welsh , Harry Secombe , style. Jenni and I were the only guests on the day which meant the competition between Jenni and Paul was immense for the best one liners while I just added a little from my extensive knowledge of useless information. Paul meet us at our Motorhome park at 8.30 am. and from then on we could relax and enjoy the sightseeing , wine , chocolate , honey tasting and purchases. The lunch stop at a unique combined gift shop , garden sculpture and restaurant was the 2nd most interesting stop after the view from Te Mata Peak.Written 22 June 2022
- Scenic8243300 contributionsWinery tour on a cold dayExcellent 1/2 day tour to Askerne, Church Road & The Mission Estate wineries with Paul. Awesome trip to do on a cold wet day and all places were warm. Good conversation and very helpful. Not into drinking so the 3 wineries were more than enough.Written 19 June 2022
- 326nikkit0 contributionsAbsolute must doWe did the Grand tour with Paul on a wet Napier day which didn’t detract from the awesome experience. Paul can read the crowd giving us just enough time in some place and more in others . Lucky for us but not so for him it was just the 2 of us. The grand tour is a great way to get an overall picture of the Hawkes Bay Area . We would totally recommend this tour to anyone . We should have made this our 1st adventure at the beginning of our trip to Napier as Paul’s tour and commentary gives an excellent overview to allow you to return to various spots if desired. Coming from Christchurch we were very interested in the rebuild after the 1931 earthquake and fire ..Napier did it so well as is the testimony you see today . Highly recommend you take this tour with PaulWritten 3 April 2022

- bryd0nn0 contributionsBloody awesome!! Highly recommendBloody awesome, Paul is a superstar and very knowledgeable about the local area. Even being in a wheelchair myself nothing was ever an issue. The vineyard’s you go to are amazing also. Well worth the time and money. Would do again. Highly recommend. Thanks Paul would love to catch up next time for a beer.Written 22 November 2021
- fabiolamendozag0 contributionsBreathtaking views, delicious wine, amazing guideWe had an absolutely amazing time with our guide Paul and the 3 wineries we went to. We have been on various wine tours in New Zealand and Australia and this one has been by far our most favourite one! Will definitely be back in Napier and go on another tour with Paul and Tour Napier soon!Written 22 November 2021

- RobyninWaipu0 contributions100%We had a fantastic wine tour with Paul! Four wonderful wineries with fantastic hosts and a beautiful restaurant for lunch. Paul was a great tour guide - happy, relaxed, chatty and informative, and the most important... flexible with timings - especially when we lingered too long at the wineries :) Our group of six ladies had a fabulous day out at the Hawkes Bay wineries.Written 27 July 2021

My wife and I took a cruise around New Zealand with one of the stops in Napier. 5 years ago we spent 2 weeks driving around the north island of New Zealand with a stop in Napier, however, it rained incessantly and we didn't see much. The tour with Paul leading us was excellent. We saw the city, and other areas in the countryside, all with great ongoing commentary from Paul. At the end of the tour, my wife and I felt we had seen Napier, and learned about its past and present, much better on this tourl than we did on our own. Great tour. Great tour guide (Paul) Well worth the time and the money.

We recommend this tour if you are in Napier. It was well organized and we saw the Art Deco town and the surrounding countryside. We had great photographic opportunities. Paul know all the little tidbits about the town. He was also very accommodating to requests and questions.

A highlight of our New Zealand visit. About 10 to 11 people in a quality Mercedes high top mini bus. We had a four hour plus drive through Napier and then out through the vineyards and fruit orchards to Hastings. Great driver with life experience, Robbie, who shared a lot. The stops we made were interesting and allowed for photos. Highly recommended. Tip: if you take a cruise shuttle to the iSite location then the boarding ares is about 150 steps away.

Napier is a small but very interesting city. This tour gave a great perspective of the history and geology of the area. The guide did a great job explaining how the earthquake changed everything. Remarkable story. The view from the big maintain was incredible. Also we loved the bee shop and ice cream stop.

We opted for a small tour group and selected Tour Napier. Just loved it! Paul our tour guide was welcoming, knowledgeable. It was a great tour and we got to see many if not all of Napier’s wonderful sites without feeling rushed and overwhelmed. Thank you Paul for making our tour memorable.

We arranged this tour as a cruise excursion. Our guide was pleasant and polite. The highlight was undoubtedly visiting Te Mata peak where we enjoyed lovely views over the countryside. We then spent over an hour at what was basically a cafe and shop which was a disappointing use of the limited time we had in Napier. There is a small sculpture garden but there was not sufficient to see to spend so much time there . A 30 minute stop would have been plenty, and although the cakes were nice the service was slow. We then stopped at a chocolate factory for 20 minutes before a short tour of Napier's art deco buildings. I thought we would have got out of the van and had a walking tour but it was couple of short stops and driving down one or two streets. We were left feeling frustrated that we did not see more of the area.

Dear “Getaway802836”
Sincere thanks for your review - we are grateful to you for sharing your thoughts.
It does sound as if the city element of your tour may have been inadvertently compromised on this occasion because of extra time spent elsewhere earlier in the tour. We will look at that with our driver/guides to ensure we strike a better balance with tour timings in future.
Thanks again for putting us in the picture – we genuinely do value feedback particularly when it highlights areas where we could do better; the main thing is that now we know it wasn't quite right for you we can work on improving it – and we will.

This was one of the best tours we have been on, the driver/guide was very friendly, knowledgable & informative. The locations that Paul took us to were very interesting and he had a lot of detail to share regarding the Napier eathquake. Highly recommended.

Paul, we are hoping to cruise on Holland America's Zuiderdam which will dock in Napier at 11:00am on February 4, 2023. We would need to be back to the ship by 5:00pm. How many people do I need to get together to reserve your full van so you can cater the tour to our liking? We are especially interested in spending more time at Te-Mata Peak and other especially scenic photographic sites.
Thanks!

Our Viking ship docks at noon in Napier and departs at 6 pm on March 9, 2020. Is there any way to do a 12:30 or 1 pm tour. Two people for sure. I haven't discussed with the other 4 in our group yet.

We are a party of ten from HK. Will be arriving on 6/12/2018 on NCL Norwegian Jewel, arriving at 10.30 am and departing port at 6.00 pm. (Passengers are expected to be on board one hour prior to departure) You mentioned that you will do your best to accommodate requests for alternative time of tour departure. Is there any likelihood of accommodating our group with an earlier departure time for the afternoon tour? Thank you
