About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ronaldogK8517ZW0 contributionsSpectacular!Spectacular venue. If you come to New Zealand this is a place you can't miss! The Geothermals geisers are really special as well as the Maori's show. And, you have the oportunity to see these beautiful little animals: the kiwis.Written 9 March 2025

- Samantha K0 contributionsNot recommended for younger groups or families unless you want to wait aroundFlexiTours was our transportation between Auckland and Rotorua, and we stopped in Waitomo to do the black labyrinth rafting on the way. This activity was great, but not part of Flexi - Black Water Rafting Co was awesome. Flexi was essentially just the transportation between the cities and cave. Cars were super nice. However, if you’re a younger group, couple, or family looking to be efficient and make the most of the day, this is not for you. If you are fine waiting and being with a bunch of other tourists on entirely different schedules than you, then this is a good option. We waited for over 4 hours in the car as other groups finished up their other activities. Rather than grouping together people on the same schedule, we got stuck with people with entirely different itineraries. The rafting and glow worms were awesome (check out Black Water Rafting Co!), so we’re glad we did that, but this was a complete waste of time and way too expensive for what it was. When I brought this up to the customer service team, they made some excuse about how arranging transport around our itinerary (doing the rafting) was unaffordable for them. That is fine and fair, but they should have told us this ahead of time so we could have arranged a separate private transfer between locations, which would have been similarly priced. We only had 2 weeks in NZ so it was a bummer to lose an entire day because of this company.Written 15 February 2025

- 859TK0 contributionsLong Day but worth itEarly pick up in Auckland from our hotel with our first stop being Hobbiton, we were able to get some coffee and light breakfast before our tour to Hobbiton. Our group got split up between two different tours times while at Hobbiton, which I thought was odd since we were waiting either on the front end or back end for everyone to complete the tour. We should have stayed as one group. We were on the first tour, had a great time learning and exploring the set, after the tour we got a complimentary drink, then off to the lunch buffet. Lunch was very good with a good variety of choices for all dietary needs. We did wait around for about 40 mins after our lunch for the 2nd tour group to finish their lunch. We then rushed off to head to Waitomo caves with a short stop for ice cream, had my first hokey pokey and it was delicious. I was hooked and ate it all through NZ. At the caves, we did a short tour of the cave then boarded a boat to float our way to the glow worms. Spent about an hour at the caves. Afterwards, we switched drivers and headed to Rotorua with a stop at a swinging bridge near the hydro power plan. While it was a long day, there were enough breaks during the day to get out of the van/bus and stretch. We enjoyed our time and would recommend if you need a transfer to Rotorua or just a day trip from Auckland.Written 22 December 2024

It was a Very Enjoyable Day for us ALL! We have to say "Darryl" was SUCH A PLEASURE to have as our 1. Driver and 2. Such a Knowledgeable Guide and Excited to inform us all of how proud he is of his Country. He told us a lot of things both up and back for our 2 tours, 12 1/2 hour Day. We just wanted you to know how comfortable we were in the Vehicle, our stop for a bite to eat at "The Ally Cat", his information during the whole day was amazing! We will definitely recommend your company for anyone going to Auckland, New Zealand. Bradshaw's, Donohue's, Wardle's and Bellerive's.Written 26 October 2024

Our guide- Sandra- was very proffessional, made the tour enlightening and fun, paid attention and accordingly adjusted the tour to our specific group needs, and made the day most enjoyable.Written 29 September 2024

Long drive from Auckland that was made tolerable by a very knowledgeable driver. He had so many interesting facts, details and history along the route.
The bus was torturous to ride in as every bump seemed to be amplified by worn out shocks/struts. However, the driver told us the vehicle was being replaced any day.
In my opinion, the price of the trip was pricy, it did however include admission to the Marori culture center, but not the special event was the singing and native war dance. If you’re adventurous and don’t mind the driving, I’d recommend renting a car in Auckland, which would save you a few hundred NZD and provide the flexibility to stop wherever you wanted along the drive.

This tour was an absolutely wonderful experience! I appreciated the slower pace of getting to explore different areas of Rotorua (geothermal spots, stunning lake overlooks, redwood forest) in the morning. The buffet lunch was really lovely with nice food that I don't think you could get except in the nicest restaurants. The afternoon activities were by far my favorite, with the Māori cultural show and the grounds tour. The cultural show included beautiful singing and dancing with brief explanations of the meanings of the various elements, which made it so memorable. And the grounds tour was also great. We saw hot mud springs, exploding geysers and Kiwi birds. One of my favorite elements was seeing the school and watching the students and tutors carve wood/stone and weave baskets. The cultural elements made for an experience that you literally could not get anywhere but in New Zealand. And I must end by sharing how incredible our tour guide Pete was! He was very lovely to talk to and answered all of our questions, definitely not relying on a script. It was so meaningful to have a guide of Māori descent to give us further insight into this beautiful country. He even told us a beautiful Māori legend on the drive home, and I truly feel so lucky and privileged that he shared it with us. This tour was one I will not forget, and I would highly recommend it!

We had an absolutely wonderful time on our trip to Rotorua. While the travel time was long, our guide, Louise, kept us thoroughly entertained with her expertise on local landmarks, Māori history and mythology, and current events in New Zealand. We couldn’t believe 3 hours had gone by when we arrived!
Once we arrived in Rotorua, Louise realized that our first planned activity to view the lake would not be best, as the lake was covered entirely in fog at the time. So instead, she changed our guided tour at Te Puia to an earlier time, allowing us the ability to view the lake later in the afternoon. We appreciated her quick thinking and flexibility to allow us the best possible experience! Of course, Te Puia itself was awesome, and we enjoyed the Māori cultural performance as our add-on activity.
We would highly recommend visiting Te Puia with FlexiTours NZ!

Our tour guide, Rebecca, was more of a driver than a tour guide. The audio on the van was too low and she only shared some facts about Rotorua and then silent, not a single word was spoken by her the rest of the day.
The tour is full of death time since the first stop, where our tour guide gave us a 45 minute break, way too long. Then after we arrived to the Maori Centre we had to wait 35 minutes for our tour guide to give us our Maori concert’s bracelet. In the meantime we got to know the souvenir shop on detail and the toilets twice, so fun!!
When the concert finished, the buffet started, an 1 hour and a half buffet with not to many options tbh. After the buffet, we waited 15-20 minutes to get our geyser’s bracelet and the tour started. The tour needs a restructure as we started at the kiwi conservation centre, then went to the geysers and then back to where the buffet is to se the Maori arts and crafts institute. Because of the tour structure we didn’t manage to see the fourth biggest geyser of the world in action. It should be, Maori arts and crafts which is right next to where we were, then the kiwi and then the geysers until you see all the geysers in action.
The tour is too expensive for the content, easily getting rid of all the death time, another activity could be included, even going to Huka Falls or something or another activity in Rotorua. The experience was nice and the people that booked the tour the same day I did were great and that’s what I take from it but talking about the tour company, it needs to make a change.

Hi - I am not sure why you were so unhappy as we have hundreds of reviews over how fabulous both the lunch and Rebecca are.
It is always hard to balance the needs of the clients - some who want constant commentary and those who prefer to just have interesting highlights spoken about .
The geyser you were talking about is directly in view from the restaurant you complained about being in too long and normally erupts about 2 to 3 times an hour but it is nature and we and Te Puia do not have the ability to make it go on demand
I am sorry you were not happy but our experience is that people report seeing and doing more on a tour than they achieve in a rental car

My sister and I loved this trip! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very on point with timing and getting us everywhere! We opted for the concert to learn about the Maori culture and it was money well spent. The whole trip was a great learning experience and absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for a full day with both culture and the beauty of nature, I can't recommend this trip enough! It's a bit of a drive but the van was very comfortable and our guide kept us informed :)

I booked this tour thinking it would be a little long. In reality, the early morning 6:25 am start is well worth it to get the most of the day in Rotorua. Our guide Chris was friendly, entertaining and ensured we were informed and in the right place at all times. Chris really made the experience one to remember! The Maori Cultural Centre is worth the visit alone. The guides grew up locally and are both kind and knowledgable. The centre's workshop and arts centre is fascinating and the resulting art works breath-taking. The concert was not a tourist trap, but a lovely cultural sharing with brilliant voices.
We were not rushed at all and you felt like a valued visitor. The buffet lunch was super.
We also got a chance to see a live Kiwi bird which was so cute. Great to see this important conservation work.
The main event - the geysers were out of this world. The colours, the spectacular heights they reach and the strange sulphurous patterns made by the waterfalls. Sit on the hot rocks (carefully to avoid any escaping steam!) and enjoy the view.
We chatted with our fellow day trippers and were dropped off at our hotel with a dinner recommendation. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

The day was fine. I think for the money I paid there should have been more activities included in the itinerary. We were taken to Whakarawarewa only. While the tour in there was good and informative, there was nothing planned after lunch. An Impromptu visit to Goverment Gardens was offerd to us in the afternoon.
I must say the lunch was very good and had many selections.

This tour is offered with options - but you did not select any. Every option costs us money and as we restrict all our tours to a maximum of 12 passengers our tours are more expensive than some other companies who crowd you into the same size vehicles, but with more seats. We aim to provide the business class experience, where people are not squashed together, have their own individual seat, more legroom etc. and are comfortable.
You will see multiple reviews commenting on the comfort of our vehicles, so important on a long journey. I have hunted through multiple reviews on competitors sites and cannot find same comment with regards to comfort.
There are cheaper companies - but to get the lower price you need to book a company that carries larger groups. Most people choose us, because we promise extra space and extra room and a more comfortable journey. As we carry less people, we have to charge slightly more per person to make the tours financially viable.
Our description states you will have some free time if you do not select an additional option.

We chose the Redwood forests tree climb along with the geysers! It was a beautiful walk through the redwoods.
We then had a tour of the Maori Art Institute, saw the Kiwi bird, and enjoyed a spectacular lunch overlooking the geysers. After lunch we toured the bubbling mud and geysers. They are amazing! I didn’t want to leave!
Our tour guide, Daryl, was the most knowledgeable guide! He shared the history of New Zealand with us, showed us the silver ferns, and provides us with the best day we could have ever asked for!! If you do this tour, be sure to request Daryl as your guide!!

The stops were great. We had the best cup of coffee along the way in MataMata as recommended by our driver.
The bad: The flexitour van did not have usb cell phone charges at the seats (or anywhere) as did the other companies. My wife and I are 6’ and couldn’t fit in any seats except the very back which were already taken. We could hardly walk by the time we arrived at destinations. We couldn’t here the driver on the sound system when we asked him to turn it up he said he can’t he was afraid of terrible feedback on the microphone.
We rode a similar van with a different company and the seats were so much better, softer and large enough for an adult. Every seat had a usb for keeping your cell phones charged. It’s very disappointing to have a nearly dead battery when you arrive at a site and want to take photos.
Our driver was kind and courteous and knowledgeable about New Zealand. He had no control over the issues with the van. I recommend the coffee stop along the way. It was the best.

I can only assume you are confused about the van you were in or the company you were travelling with as ALL our vans have one less row of seats than factory standard, creating about 6 - 8 inches extra leg room between rows and top of the line leather seating - There are hundreds of reviews to this effect about the comfort and space in our vehicles.
WE also have professionally fitted sound systems in all our vehicles
If the criticism was about service or things that could be wrong then I would not be as dismissive as I am on this review

I had a very unpleasant experience with this company. I tried to contact the company per my tour guide's suggestion and was met with very curt responses. The tour itself to Rotorua was great, but the Geothermal experience was not worth it and very overpriced. Looking online, it looks like there are many other cheaper options available.

The trip is fine but i do have one question. For person with prostrate problem who needs to visit toilet frequently what are the arrangements?
Written 19 January 2025
There are no arrangements, so you might want a blanket to drape over yourself and bring a plastic bottle. They stop at around the 1/2 point. It’s simply a function of how often you need to stop.

My wife cannot walk long distances (after a stroke) , would it still be worth the visit for her as well?

Sorry for the late response. I think in Thermal Wonderland there are some bumpy area and steep steps, but you can choose the easier route. From memory I think it should be okay if she gets some assistance, but might be better to check with the tour company. Also want to point out the Wonderland could easily take you 1-2 hours but there are no bathroom in there except at the gate. You could also choose additional things like spa. Hope that helps.

Hi, quick question. If we want to include Waotapu to this trip, how much do we need to pay more or it’s included? And this trip will drop us back at our hotel in Auckland at the end? Thanks

What is the difference between the Thermal Wonderland and Polynesian Spa upgrades?
Written 19 June 2018
The Polynesian Spa is a spa experience where you can soak in five different hot water pools with therapeutic minerals. Each one has a different temperature and view of the lake Rotorua which is right in front of the spa. My wife and I found it very relaxing.
While we didn’t go to the thermal wonderland, i understand that it is a theme park where you can walk around and observe a number of thermal pools with different coloured water.
