    Perfect start to any day
Tony was such an amazing guide/bus driver with class jokes!! It was quite cloudy when up there but was still 100% worth it. If you’re in Hobart this trip is a must do!!

    Interesting ride to Mount Wellington
Of course, you can't choose the weather and Mount Wellington is statistically in the clouds most of the time. But the bus ride up Mount Wellington is very entertaining, especially because of the driver. They explain the history of Tasmania and the infrastructure that was mostly built by British prisoners. They also stop for exciting encounters on the open road. We saw a Black Tiger Snake and an Echidna - very exciting.

Everything I was hoping for - even the cloud parted after we arrived at the summit.
Really well organised tour. Informative, professional, comfortable. Bus was in great condition, driver Paul was extremely knowledgeable about the area, and a great driver. Highly recommend it.

    Great trip - highly recommended
We managed to book this trip after our cruise was diverted from Mystery Island, to a different "island". We have done the hop on hop off before and decided to take the Mt Wellington trip. Our driver Paul was funny and informative ( despite his microphone giving grief). Seats were a little cramped and I hit my head more than once on the low roof - despite this we had a great view from the back seat window and Paul made sure we all equally got to see the sites, both up and down the mountain. It clouded in just near the top ( can't plan the weather) but it was an interesting walk around, climbing to the trig station and using the "loo with a view".

    All in all - good!
It was a very nice experience. Of course also because of the nice weather! The bus driver was friendly and funny and told a lot of stories about the mountain and the area. But I wish those guides would consider more, that not every guest is native English speaking! So slow down the talking, and don’t expect everyone to understand jokes. The bus was on time, but they didn’t provide me with a map in the bus, as promised in the confirming mail. The route downwards to Fern Tree was easy to find, though!

    A must do!
Instructive tour with amazing panoramic view. The bus driver (Paul) was not only well prepared, but also very kind, very generous in sharing his knowledge and advices. Zig-zag track steep but absolutely fabulous!

    convenient and educational!
probably the most convenient transport option for point-to-point hikes on kunanyi/Mt Wellington. ubers will drop you off, but are unlikely to bother trekking up the mountain to pick you up afterwards. additionally, bus drivers are very knowledgeable and friendly, and happy to answer all questions & show you photos of tassie specials like tiger snakes & the southern lights.

A great outing to Kunanyi/Mt Wellington
There was a dark cloud over the mountain making it look very ominous but as luck had it, Greg our guide said that it was the best day for it. He was right, we had stunning views. It was cool and very windy, the information center was very interesting and a great place to escape the breeze. On the way up the mountain we stopped at a lookout where you can see the town of Kingston and the Derwent River, the views were amazing. I recommend this trip for those who don't like driving on winding roads or those who do not have access to a vehicle. Greg and the other guides are a wealth of information. There is a coffee shop on the way up but no food or drink at the top. There are, however, toilets and you also get a great view from them too. Excellent tour.

    Glad I didn’t drive.
Very enjoyable tour where the 2.5 hours flew by mainly due to the great views and informative but entertaining commentary by our driver Paul. Although we had a hire car, we were very pleased we chose the bus tour rather than self-drive. We discovered so much more about the history of Hobart, Mt Wellington and the surrounding area, as well as both us enjoying the scenery rather than watching for oncoming cars/buses on the narrow/winding road

In Hobart our cruise ship was docked (I think there is only one dock) and able to walk off the ship straight into town.

We had pre-booked the Red Decker Mount Wellington and Hop on Hop off bus tour, which departed at 11am from outside the Tourist Information Centre, about 10 minutes walk from the pier. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day so we didn't get much of a view from the summit, but it was an informative commentary from the bus driver (Greg).

Tip: it gets cold at the top (usually around 12 Celsius cooler than sea level) and with added wind chill make sure you take layers - we needed woolly hats, gloves and jackets!

The Mount Wellington bus was back in town by 1330, and we then transferred to the Hop on Hop off, which runs half hourly when a cruise ship is in Hobart. Just going around the city loop on the bus takes 1.5 hours - due to time constraints we chose not to get off at any of the stops but the ticket is valid for 48 hours.

With hindsight I would have done the 930 Mount Wellington bus instead of 1100, and that would have given more time on the Hop on Hop off. As long as your cruise ship arrival is early enough there is plenty of time to make the first (930) Mount Wellington bus.

Dear mahatinu, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your time in Hobart and made the most of our Red Decker tours. We’re sorry the weather wasn’t ideal at the summit, but we’re glad you found Greg’s commentary informative despite the cloudy conditions. Your tip about the weather at the top is much appreciated, and we’re sure future passengers will find it useful to know about the cold temperatures and wind chill—definitely a good idea to bring layers! We’re also pleased to hear that the hop-on hop-off tour was a convenient way to explore the city. Your advice to take the earlier kunanyi/Mount Wellington tour to allow more time for the city loop is a great suggestion for other cruise ship passengers. We hope you had a wonderful cruise, and we’d love to welcome you back for another tour if you’re ever in Hobart again! Best regards, Bianca C. Guest Relations Manager

Brilliant trip up to the summit of Mt Wellington. Lots of laughs thanks to the driver's humorous delivery of both local history and local culture.

Whole trip took about 2.5 hours and was worth every penny.

I'd recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see more than the centre of Hobart but doesn't want it to take a whole day

The drive to the top was in itself spectacular! And then, once at the pinnacle - Wow!

We were lucky enough to go on a sunny blue sky day so could clearly see all of the Hobart region laid out directly below us and 140km across hill ranges to the North.

Our driver/guide Greg was very informative about a whole range of relevant topics as well as being extremely courteous.

Would thoroughly recommend, particularly on 1st day of a Hobart visit as it really places the city into its physical context.

We didn't drive, so we chose public transportation to visit Hobart. The trip to the top of Wellington was on time, and the guide was humorous and detailed. The view of Hobart from the top of Wellington is beautiful, and we took a lot of photos. It was just very windy and a bit cold, so we must keep warm. The double-decker bus is very convenient to travel around the entire city.

As a couple of seniors we found the hop on hop off bus a fantastic way to get around Hobart and get access to many of the travel hot spots. For an extra $10 for the second day it was a great deal as it allowed us to catch up on and visit locations we missed on the first day. We deliberately didn't go on a weekend and the buses were never crowded. Clean with good commentary.
I believe the service could be improved with latter busses after the last one at 3 pm. and possibly adding a third day pass and include Mona on the route for some trips

Hint. If a cruise ship is docked I think I would plan to use this service on another day

Great tour. Went up Mt Wellington first up in the morning however the weather conditions was bad with thick fog therefore we couldn’t see views when at The Pinnacle.
The 48-hour hop on-off was a great overview of Hobart city which was included as part of this tour.
Would recommend if you are a solo traveller and do not wish to rent a car in Hobart.

I booked a return ticket on the Explorer bus in order to access the hiking trails around Mt Wellington and the trip exceeded my expectations dramatically!

I was expecting a typical bus service, pick-ups and drop-offs at the designated stops. This the shuttle definitely did do, but it was also so much more.

Greg, the driver, was incredibly knowledgeable about a huge number of local landmarks - his guided tour ranged from historic events to the typical vegetation and current goings on. He paused for at particularly scenic spots in order to tell us more about them and allow for phenomenal pictures. He also dispensed unique advice to travellers disembarking about what was best to see and do in the areas they were headed.

In particular, Greg gave me fantastic advice about which trails were open and worth a look. I had a number of enjoyable hours seeing a much larger portion of the mountain than I anticipated in a very efficient manner before meeting him at the top and riding down again.

11/10 would recommend to anyone, providing your bus driver is Greg. Friendly and approachable; what a champ.

The shuttle also operates when the road is closed due to ice, so it's a fantastic way to get up the mountain if you wouldn't be able to in some weather conditions.

We booked the Red Decker and Explorer bus package for our final 2 days in Hobart. When we made initial enquiries we were advised of the upcoming snow event and suggested we book early, so we booked on the spot as you need to book a time for the Explorer bus up Mt Wellington. We booked the first bus of the day following the overnight snow dump and had the best experience. John our driver was very experienced at dealing with the crazy traffic and it was so nice to have access through the closed gates to go further up the mountain than anyone else. On our next day John just happened to be driving the Red Decker bus and it was great to catch up with him again. He looked after us perfectly getting us to and from our tour and lunch at Cascade Brewery and then an impromptu visit to the Penitentiary. He gave us added bits of information and answered many of our questions. Such a genuine friendly guy and the bus service is a great informative way to see the main sights of Hobart city.

Dear razza61, thank you so much for your review and glowing comments for your driver and guide John. Our combined tour with Red Decker’s hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus sure is the best way to see all the sights in Hobart. I’m so pleased you enjoyed both experiences. You had perfect timing to catch the kunanyi/Mt Wellington bus the morning after a big snow fall. We are so lucky to be able to travel past the locked gates, up into the snow and share this exciting experience with our passengers, many of whom have never seen snow before! Your photos are stunning too, thanks for sharing. Thanks again for your detailed review we hope you’ve had a lovely holiday in Hobart. Louise V, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus.

I had a knee injury and couldn't walk too far so we booked this tour up kunanyi and it was great. The bus was easy to get on/off with my knee and the views on the drive up were excellent.
The driver (Tony) was a excellent - very knowledgable of the mountain's history with 10/10 dad jokes thrown in between facts. Me and my friend hopped off at The Springs to do some of the shorter/easier walks and Tony recommended a few spots we could check out.
An excellent way to see kunanyi if you don't have a car or can't walk too far.

Great tour company and service from start to finish. So easy to hop on and off and interesting commentary on the red bus. All of the drivers were just brilliant, really kind and accommodating. We stopped at the Wrest Point Casino to visit the beach, Salamanca and the Botanic Gardens. The bus up Kunanyi was awesome. Much easier than driving as they know the roads inside out and can get up in bad weather. We were late back from a bush walk (Organ Pipes - really great track) and Paul our driver checked we were ok and picked us up to make sure we were safe. Welfare is clearly really important and we appreciated how much they care about guests. Paul could also advise on suitable walks and gear. Highly recommend!

Dear Jessica D, Thank you so much for your awesome review! We're really happy to hear you had a great experience from start to finish. We’re glad you found the kunanyi/ Mt Wellington trip easier than driving yourself, especially with our drivers knowing the roads so well and being able to handle all kinds of weather. Paul sounds like he went above and beyond by making sure you were safe after your bush walk on the Organ Pipes track—guest welfare is super important to us, and it’s great to hear you felt taken care of.
