While you travel, your guide shares information on the island's flora, fauna, and geology. About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 179sharynb0 contributionsZoe - best guide everEight of us went on the Bruney Island Day Cruise and had the most memorable day with Zoe who was not only our tour guide but also our bus driver. What a remarkable young lady, she was charismatic, bubbly, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant, we could not have asked for a better person she made the whole experience a memorable one. Could not recommend this tour more highly especially if you are lucky enough to have Zoe as your guide.Written 23 October 2024
- katiemY1999KV0 contributionsThe 3 Hour Wilderness Tour is a Must Do on Bruny IslandWe went on the 3 hour Wilderness Cruise at Bruny Island and loved the experience. Such beautiful coastline with caves, blowholes, seals and birds. Was a cherished part of our Tasmania holiday, would recommend to everyone.Written 23 March 2024
- Robert B0 contributionsExtremely well run tour company. Our tour was made a lot more interesting and fun by our guide, Zoe, who had a great sense of humor and tremendous local knowledge. And she's a great driver.Written 13 January 2024
- Henry S0 contributionsA wild adventure but not for persons susceptible to motion sickness! Our tour operator, Tauck, advertised this full day adventure as including a 3 hour “cruise”alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs”, “drifting up close” to a Breathing Rock, and “entering sea caves”. They said it could be cold and that gloves and jackets were highly recommended. Neither Tauck nor any guides mentioned that this cruise mostly was a speed boat thrill ride for most of the three hours. Some people clearly loved the relentless roller coaster experience crashing through ocean waves. Others of us did not. So, if you are looking for thrills, including some awesome sights, this is your adventure. If you are looking for a cruise and keeping down your breakfast, I would recommend you explore other options.Written 17 October 2023

- Niccers160 contributionsA great full day tour from HobartWe did the 3 hour boat tour with transport from Hobart. Definitely a great day out, the wind was gale force, however well protected with the raincoats provided on the boat. Lunch and morning tea were beautiful.Written 7 April 2023
- 690sallyb0 contributionsSensational Bruny IslandSuch a great day out. We were super lucky with fine weather and no wind. Kate our driver was excellent and Tom and Tahlia were fantastic fun on the boat. Would highly recommend this tour.Written 1 April 2023
- AZaknic0 contributionsA True ocean AdventureMy son & I did the all day wild life adventure. Bruny is beautiful but you need to pick your days (best to wait for a clear & sunny day if possible). The trip up was very comfortable and we managed to see a white wallaby on the way. Morning tea was a warm beverage & freshly baked blueberry muffin. Then it was time to head out to sea for 3hrs. For those that didn’t rug up they would have froze. The ocean swell was about 10mtrs (it felt like a wash machine), with the odd wave splashing into the boat. The scenery was spectacular. Our guides were great and very knowledgeable. Back on shore, the restaurant prepped a beautiful fresh & hot lunch.Written 12 March 2023
- louisekG1856VN0 contributionsA wild wilderness journey on the high seas!Wow! What an exciting cruise around Bruny Island. We felt like explorers braving the tempestuous sea! Captain Pennicott guided us expertly around the island for an exhilarating experience that is not to be missed if heading to Tasmania for a holiday!Written 2 January 2023
- JJawandering0 contributionsAn interesting tour of the island and offshore formationsThere is a land and sea option. If you are prone to seasickness, best to go for the land tour. On the boat tour, they offer you ginger tablets as a preventative measure against sea sickness, but that does not work for all people.Written 15 December 2022
- Jenny J0 contributionsAbsolute highlight of TassieWe didn't do the all day tour as had our own hire car so just did the boat trip once on Bruny Island. Would have to be the highlight of our 14 lap of Tassie for me. Exhilarating, saw whales, seals, sea lions, dolphins, albatross, blow holes and cliffs. We were warned to rug up and we are so glad we did or it would have been freezing. We had all the gear on we had warn in the snow a few days before and it was perfect. We would have been cold in anything less. Try and get an outside seat if you want to take photos rather than in the middle rows as it's difficult to get out to take photos otherwise.Written 16 December 2021
- Chris S0 contributionsDon't miss it.Bruny Island 3 Hour Wilderness Cruise. This is the third Pennicott cruise I've been on, and each one has been up to this standard. Our crew were professional knowledgable and friendly. They did every thing they could to deliver an experience you would not forget. We were lucky and got the trifecta, whales, dolphins and seals. Along the way fabulous scenery, a Shy Albatross or two and some Gannets. I would recommend this company without hesitation.Written 10 December 2021

- Christine L0 contributionsAmazing, exciting day, what an experience!!!The Bruny Island all day tour with the zodiac tour of the coastline was absolutely fantastic. Seeing that rugged coastline, the caves, the seals up so close was just amazing. Our guides Ben and Michael are such capable and knowledgable young men with endless patience, thank you for an unforgettable day. The stop at Get Shucked to buy local oysters was a bonus - the best oysters in the world!!Written 22 October 2021
- minogue150 contributionsAmazing and exhilarating experienceYesterday we had the most amazing day led by our skipper and bus driver Ben. Highly recommend this tour , in fact this is our second trip with this company . From the early hours of pick up at 7.45 am to our drop off at 5 pm everything was carefully organised , planned and communicated . Ben is a multi skilled person who took his responsibility with great enthusiasm, his patience , knowledge and humour were displayed throughout the trip and we felt we had a skipper who really understood all that he was doing At times the boat trip was a little rough and a bit scary but Ben and Dave looked after everyone so well . The landscape and ruggedness of the cliffs are some of the best scenery you will ever see The morning tea, lunch and general care and hospitality is to be congratulated , all staff did such a great job Particularly Ben Thanks for such a memorable and wonderful dayWritten 19 April 2021

This is an excellent trip to see Bruny Island in a day and experience a cross section of what is available on the Island. From the Ferry crossing, Cheese, Bread & Beer/Wine to the tour across the Island / lunch at the seafood Pennicott's Restaurant at Adventure Bay to the Honey & Chocolate/Whisky stops all was a great experience and would definitely recommend the tour and / or a longer stay at Bruny Island as there is much more to experience. Tim our driver/tour guide has a wealth of knowledge and went out of his way to ensure all passengers enjoyed the tour.

Bruny Island through the eyes of Pennicott Wilderness journeys is the highlight of any trip to the Apple Island. We did two tours with Pennicott in two days, this was the second following the cruise down the coast to the seal colony at the Friars the previous day. After the thrills and adventure , this was a great change of pace, led by an amazing and knowledgeable guide who told some great stories about the island and the places we visited. I believe the tour changes regularly , we went to cheese and beer makers, honey makers, whisky and fudge makers, had a seafood lunch, walked on the beach, did a short rainforest walk, visited a really cool museum and toured the private grounds of the couple who owned the fudge factory. Everything was wonderful and a delight to do. The company was a pleasure to deal with and only too happy to help in any way. Their buses and restaurant facilities were exceptionally clean and well presented and I couldn't recommend this tour highly enough for someone wanting a quick overview of what this gorgeous island has to offer. 12/10 Team!!

We enjoyed this tour today. The weather wasn't looking great but for most of the day it held off. Our driver and guide, Marnie (not sure of the spelling, sorry) picked most of our group up at Pennicott Wilderness Journeys at Franklin Wharf. We drove down to the ferry at Kettering and were soon on the island. First stop was Cheese, Bread and Beer where we had a great tasting of several cheeses, one bread and one beer. The host was great and the produce delicious. After that it was on to The Neck lookout for the view. A detour onto a dirt road took us to a rainforest walk, and to a shop selling fresh raspberries and ice creams (yum!). Lunch was at Pennicott's restaurant at Adventure Bay, where we enjoyed magnificent oysters from Get Schucked and fish, chips and local wine with a superb view.
Following lunch we visited the tiny but fascinating Bligh Museum and some landmarks on the beach. We stopped at Bruny Chocolate where we had a private tour of the property, a whisky tasting and fudge. The last stop was Bruny Island Honey for more tasting and to stock up on the lovely honey products. A quick stop at Get Schucked's drive through brought more oysters for those that wanted to purchase them. Back to the ferry and Hobart. Fantastic, full day with lots covered and a terrific guide in Marnie. Highly recommended!

What a great day out! Full of delicious food and wine/beer/whiskey including the best oysters I think I have ever tasted. Not to mention the cheeses, fudge, honey, chocolate and a delicious seafood lunch as well. Very good value for money!!
What absolutely topped the day off was our host Rio who made the day so much better. Not only did he highly amuse all 13 travellers with his lame dad jokes, he was also very informative and went out of his way to answer the curliest of questions. Plenty of laughs all day long!! Rio also managed to photobomb us which we found highly amusing! (Attached)

We had a wonderful time experiencing the sights, smells and tastes of Bruny Island. Tim has so much passionate for Tasmania and a wealth of knowledge that he demonstrated as soon as stepping onto the bus.
Having had plenty of time to explore we managed to see the main attractions and local producers and even had additional opportunities for photos and strolls along the beach. The addition of the Bligh museum and a prolonged stop at the house of whisky made for an extra special trip.
Bruny is a truly magical place, with the white wallabies (and Tim) adding a touch of wonder to the adventure.

A fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of Bruny Island, all of the producers were very generous with the samples provided. The lunch provided at the Winery was terrific, we certainly didn’t need much for dinner that night. Tour guide Tim had some great stories to tell, there was no way were ever going to be bored on his tour. He also has lots of advice on places to visit around Hobart.
Be careful booking anything for the evening of your tour, they try hard to return by 6:30 to 7 pm, but the ferry can be very busy and you may be later. So allow plenty of time for any evening bookings.

Expectations were high for this particular tour as I had planned my short getaway to Hobart from Melbourne based entirely on this day trip. So the pressure was on from the beginning. I was not disappointed. With the tour guaranteed to run even if only with one booking it gave some certainty in my planning. There were 5 others on the tour on the day. 3 singles and a couple. All mixed well and were duly entertained by our host. It was well-paced and considering an absolutely delicious non-rushed lunch with wine was included it was exceptional value. An unexpected highlight was a visit to the private gardens as part of the tour. The tour was worth it just for this amazing experience and being able to have whisky tastings in their own grounds. Very generous they were too with the samples. The cheese factory visit was accompanied with a delicious selection of cheeses and breads and timed to miss the marauding numbers of day trippers that invariably arrive later. They produce not a bad stout either that also came as part of the sampling. This tour seems to have it down pat in its timing to take full advantage of the experiences in terms of not spending too long at a location but then again, not feeling rushed either. It was perfect for our group size. It turned out to be one of those 'special days' that you would look fondly back on and remember.

Enjoyed a fantastic day trip around Bruny Island. New style by Pennicott Journeys and can highly recommend doing this day tour. Shuttle pick up from Macq01 Hotel in Hobart on time and couldn't fault all the special stops along the way that included Bruny Cheese - given I order online was great to visit their venue and meet the staff. Can't believe I ate the most delicious schucked oysters in my life and also drank whisky first time! Bligh Museum, Pennicott Restaurant (great value with wine included), honey sampling, raspberries, ice creams, local cider, great views, bush walking, tall trees, beaches - nothing was too much trouble to ensure everyone on this day trip enjoyed everything they so desired. Thank you Marty for a day I will never forget and highly recommend anyone to do.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. David was our tour guide and was excellent, great commentary, good driver, very personable, easy to understand, full of knowledge, gave us the day itinerary at start and during the day so we knew where we were going all the time, and made it a fun day out. The stops we went too were really good, loved the cheese and honey tastings and the fudge and chocolate shop too. Lunch was really nice and substantial. Although I dont eat oysters, the other people at my table thoroughly enjoyed mine :) Stopping at the Isthmus and climbing up to the lookout for spectacular views was a highlight, and huge thanks to the the chocolate people for allowing us to wander through their private garden. I would thoroughly recommend this tour and would do it again if in the Hobart area.

Hi, is this tour available by purchasing a gift voucher? My daughter lives interstate and I would like to give her this for Christmas but she will be in Hobert February/March.
Thank you

I cannot categorically state that this trip is available via Gift Vouchers. However the staff at the booking office are very very professional and friendly. I am sure that a quick call to them would provide the answer to your question.
On a personal note I think that this would be a superb gift for your daughter.

There’s a bit of hopping on and off the bus and a little bit of a walk through the creek/wilderness. It isn’t too strenuous and I’m sure they can tailor to your needs. The team at pennicotts will be able to advise. It’s very relaxed and picturesque with some food sampling’s along the journey. Only concern would be that it’s a big day and how your cherub will be, although there’s lots to see and do to keep everyone entertained. Enjoy Bruny!

The tour starts at about 8am from the waterfront so it might be tight for you. To be sure, you should email the tour operator directly to check if they can make special arrangements, especially if you get delayed a bit. They responded very promptly when I emailed them previously.
