Full Day Kangaroo Island Wildlife Tour
US$ 324.66
Overview
Travel by 4WD on a 9-hour, small-group tour for no more than 12  guests with a knowledgeable local guide. Seek out kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, sea-lions a range of birdlife in their natural habitat. Enjoy a delicious morning tea amongst the Eucalyptus trees which are home to  sleepy koalas. Travel through the center of the Island to the protected waters of the North Coast with its' white sandy beaches nestled between rocky headlands. Walk through the bush looking for kangaroos, wallabies and echidnas, or even the elusive glossy black cockatoo. Enjoy a seafood BBQ lunch at a private lunch-site in the bush before traveling to Seal Bay Conservation Park and take a private guided walk right into the Australian Sea-lion colony.
What to Expect

With pick up from selected accommodations or Kingscote airport between 9 and 10am, in a custom four wheel drive vehicle, the tour begins with an orientation to the Island with a map and an outline of the day ahead. Whilst your guide can provide a specific commentary and will certainly cover the basic geography and natural history, they prefer to have a conversation more than a commentary, so be prepared to be interactive and engaged with your guide and fellow travelers.

Get an introduction to Island life where things take time, where drivers wave as they go by, or even stop for a chat. Have a cuppa with some homemade cakes before taking a walk down a country track through tall Eucalyptus trees where koalas snooze overhead, or perhaps wake briefly for a feed. Travel through some of the Island’s best farming country to the north coast and Stokes Bay, one of the first areas settled on the Island.

Take a walk through the bush with your guide, and through a variety of habitat-types, learning what makes that noise, whose tracks are those, and who left that little pile there? Look for wallabies which are almost extinct on the mainland, a kangaroo found only on Kangaroo Island, and a variety of other birds, plants and animals. Learn about the conservation efforts to protect and expand the critically endangered Kangaroo Island
glossy black cockatoo.

Break for lunch and watch your guide transform into Chef to prepare a delicious meal featuring King George whiting (local sea fish), fresh salads, and fine South Australian wines at a private bush location high in the Cygnet River valley on 'Ellamatta', a leading sheep farming property.

At Seal Bay Conservation Park you'll walk with your guide among Australian sea lions on a beautiful sandy beach. The sea lions use a variety of habitats from deep ocean, coastal waters, the beach, dunes, coastal heath and right up into coastal mallee. Watch pups nursing, or playing in the surf, see old bulls bearing the scars of territorial disputes, and learn about their unique breeding biology.

At the conclusion of your day you will be returned to your hotel, or the airport - whatever has been arranged to suit your travel needs.

Not To Be Missed!

This is a great tour of a great place. It lets you be "up close and personal" with koalas, roos, wallabies, etc. The guides are AWESOME--they are from KI and know everything! Tea and lunch were served along the way, and both were delicious!
