On Day 1 & 2, you will complete a medical declaration form. This will tell us if you require a medical examination by the dive doctor to ensure you are fit to dive. This is at your own cost of approximately $80 and is paid direct to the medical centre.

We recommend that you bring swimwear, towel and additional money to make any lunch/drinks/snack purchases. You can also bring you own lunch if you prefer.

You will be travelling onboard our luxury day boat, Evolution, to the Outer Reef. You will be doing 2 open water training dives on each day. The first stop is either Norman or Saxon Reef and Hastings Reef in the afternoon. BBQ lunch will be provided onboard the boat on these days.

We recommend that you bring additional money for purchases/drinks/snacks onboard. Please note that these 2 days are individual day trips. You will still require accommodation in Cairns each evening.

Very good
If you’re just going snorkelling or a first time diver this is a good choice. Lots of pretty coral & fish to see (I even saw a white tip shark!). Well fed & very friendly staff.

Awesome Outer Reef Trip
I've done a couple great barrier reef trips now, and this is by far best outer reef experience yet. Large comfortable still new feeling vessel, great crew and awesome dive and snorkel equipment made the day a pleasure. It got us to the reef in not much over an hour and this boat rides the waves well. Also great to have large sundeck and shade covered topdeck where you can sit and see in all directions. Unique to reef trips. Crew really do an awesome job of introductory dives, so for first-timers and experienced divers - highly recommended. Snorkelling equipment as said also new and top-notch so no water filling ill-fitting masks here. Lunch great and glass of wine and cheese on the way back went down well, even with the wind picking up a bit. Thanks to all. Couldn't have been a better or more memorable day out.

Amazing Day
We absolutely loved our time out on the reef today. The boat is fantastic, the crew are really friendly and efficient and the reefs we visited didn’t disappoint. The whole day runs like clockwork from beginning to end. Lunch was plentiful and really nice. There was plenty of space on the boat to chill out and soak up the sun, either whilst moving around or taking a break from snorkelling. We expected live music on the way back, which didn’t happen and we’re not sure why. It would have topped the day off but certainly doesn’t stop us highly recommending this tour. Thanks for a fantastic day.

Great day out but no bean bags or live music as advertised
We booked this boat specifically for the live music and lounging experience.. it was what made them stand out compared to the others but sadly we didn't receive this. The staff were still great and the boat was good but it wasn't really the vibe we were going for. There were a lot of announcements over speakers and felt very touristy but was otherwise worth doing. The helicopter option is worth every penny and well worth doing! Strongly reccomend the helicopter trips.

The best tour from Cairns
This tour is a must do if you have any time in Cairns. We were there for 3 nights out of our 3 weeks in Australia and this was our favorite tour of the whole trip. It’s great for nearly all ages and experience levels, the staff was knowledgeable and helpful, and entire experience felt safe and well organized. The vegetarian meal option was actually good and they offered plenty of snacks before and after lunch. They also provided wet suits for anyone who wanted one. The boat felt clean and secure and there were cameras in the boat so your belongings were okay while you were in the water. Definitely add the helicopter option if nothing else as it’s just 10 minutes of the day for views unlike anything else. Would definitely recommend this company and tour.

Amazing day on the reef!
My brother and I enjoyed a great day on board Evolution! Visiting the two reef sites - Norman and North Hastings was fantastic. All the staff were happy and helpful to the guests. The lunch was really nice and there was plenty of food available. I would thoroughly recommend Down under for your next reef trip.

1st Tour with Down Under
Got outfitted with prescription snorkeling gear and flippers soon after we were on the boat. There are life jackets and pool noodles, depending on your swimming capabilities and how much energy you want to expend (strong waves). Great snorkeling experience, with amazing coral colors and fish sizes. About 1 - 2 hours in each of the 2 water locations. A part of the boat and water is geared toward beginning divers, providing a comfortable area to start the experience. When they tell you that the water is choppy and recommend motion sickness tablets, please do so for the sake of you and everyone else on the boat. If you're worried, the best spot is on the top deck in the back of the boat. The fresh air really helps.

Great Day!
From the booking process onward, we enjoyed this tour. Staff were very professional, and a lot of fun at the same time. There were a variety of activities to choose from throughout the day, which was great! Lunch was really good, with more than enough for everyone. Only little issue we had was an issue with seating on the way back to Cairns. We found that some guests had their belongings occupying seats in the upper lounge, and they were occupying seats in the main lounge, making it difficult to find a seat on the way back to port. We felt this could have been better organized. Other than that, it was a memorable day on the reef.

A wonderful experience from start to finish
This is a top notch snorkelling, diving and heli ride experience - we did it all and loved every minute. The snorkelling spots were rich with colourful marine life. The boat was spacious and comfortable, the staff friendly cheerful and helpful. Some deserve a mention for making our day really special - photographer Gen for not only capturing the moments with us and the turtle but also for sharing the other fish pics from the day. Great pics, thank you. Daniel was a patient and encouraging dive teacher and Che very professionally got us ready for the heli ride. Overall, superb team work and a brilliant day.

A great day on the water
my partner and I did the day trip out to the outer reef for snorkelling. We were hesitant to do a full day but are glad we did. The whole thing was really well structured and the boat was lovely and big enough for everyone to have plenty of room. the safety instructions etc were short and sweet and the food provided was nice and generous portions. we snorkelled at 2 different reef locations and got to spend some time in the sun on the boat deck. we saw a green sea turtle up close, a heap of colourful fish and a reef shark. I was impressed with the amount of saline and while the reef is somewhat damaged it was still beautiful! all in all a great day!

Great day
I had so much fun! Checking in was seamless. No need to be there any earlier then stated, as they don’t begin check in till 7:15am. Boat ride was smooth, but take sea sick tablets if you are prone to getting sick. Both snorkelling destinations were beautiful. Wetsuit hire is $10, good to keep you warm and afloat, but not necessary. The company offers a guide to snorkel with, which is great for first time snorkellers. So many people around so there’s no worry about getting lost on the reef and left behind. Staff are very cautious and frequently check number of people on board. All in all, an amazing day!

Cruise/snorkel/(cruise) helicopter return option
My partner and I cruised out to the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns for snorkelling and paid extra to return by helicopter instead of the usual cruise back. We've been to the reef many times but the helicopter flight certainly made this trip one of the more memorable. I have reviewed the helicopter element separately (Nautilus Aviation). Check in at the Reef Fleet Terminal was painless and efficient. You have to pay the AUD40 Reef tax on check in. There is a three minute walk to the boat, 'Evolution', which is very new, well equipped and clean. There were plenty of crew who were polite, helpful and well informed. The safety and other briefings were handled well, not overly stuffy, and catered for all levels of experience and confidence. There was tea, coffee and water free throughout and you could buy other drinks and snacks from the bar at reasonable prices. Seasickness tablets were available at $4 for a pack of two. A good buffet lunch (steak, fish, prawns, salads, bread, but no puddings) was included in the booking price. Apparently a free glass of wine and fruit platter were promised on the return journey but, as we flew back, I can't confirm this happened. After about 90 minutes we tied up at a buoy on the Outer Reef and had about one hour snorkelling from the back of the boat. As my partner has only snorkelled from a beach in the past, she was nervous. However, she used a (free) buoyancy vest and initially held a floatation ring with a guide until she felt more confident. Others were doing scuba from the same boat so that was interesting to see. We were in about 9 meters of water and the reef colours and fish numbers were not spectacular, but we were informed this is not due to coral bleaching in that area. Returned to the boat for lunch then sailed to a second location for more snorkelling. As this was shallower, there were more fish in evidence and the reef was more varied in what we could see. As we wanted to go in the semi-submersible (AUD10 extra pp, paid on board), second snorkel time was limited. We had 30 minutes of excellent viewing underwater, with a well-informed guide but then a rush to catch the helicopter back to shore. Instead of flying back, we could have had a cheaper cruise/cruise option and paid for a 10 minute scenic fly around from the boat for extra money. I would certainly recommend this cruise and it is worth upgrading to the helicopter return journey. However, if you want to maximise snorkelling time, skip the semi-submersible or there are different providers who offer snorkelling from a single location for longer.
