About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jenniferl9990 contributionsMatt gave us a magical day.My husband and I had been in Australia for almost two weeks running around having a great vacation before we spent a day with Matt. And that day was fantastic. I mention the fact that we had been there for two weeks already to emphasize that our delight with the day that Matt planned was not merely the vacation honeymoon effect. We genuinely had an awesome day of discovery, and Matt is a thoughtful and personable guide. From cuddling koalas and other strange and beautiful creatures to walking along a breathtaking sandstone cliffed shoreline, he brought us from one cool thing to another, but without ever making us feel rushed. In fact, at one gorgeous beach spot Matt offered up several additional stops that we could make (wine, chocolates, etc.) if interested. We weren’t especially inclined, so Matt brought us to one of his “secret” spots. I won’t describe it, other than to say it was horrific and fascinating! Totally memorable. He also managed to snap some pretty decent pictures of us throughout the day. I’d give this tour a solid 10 out of 10. The only detail that was a bit of a letdown was the horseback riding, and that’s clearly not Matt’s doing. The horses were great, and the forest was lovely, but because I was hoping for some excitement on the trail (galloping, cantering), I was bummed that we only walked. It was a nice experience but sort of dull, as I have ridden numerous times in my life. Nevertheless, the tour Matt put together was great. Highly recommend.Written 15 December 2024
- Steven T0 contributionsFun day with Matt!We had a great time horseback riding. Matt took us to some off the beaten path places. He was informative and knowledgeable about the area. Thanks for a fun day.Written 7 December 2024
- B8520BGmariat0 contributionsUnforgettableHighly recommend this tour! Our guide/driver Matt was amazing! He was very informative and friendly and was willing to take us wherever we wanted to go! We were open to all his suggestions and he did not disappoint. We had THE best time at the animal preserve and the meat pies were amazing! He even took us to a surprise spot that was truly unique and unforgettable. If you want to what it is, book your tour with Matt!😉Written 6 December 2024
- shannont6850 contributionsTop 10 things we learned while touring AUS NSW with Matt (Sydney Guided Tours).Top 10 things we learned while touring NSW AUS with Matthew “Sydney Guided Tours” NOV2024 10. In Australia they have two holidays a year, “going up the coast” and “going down the coast.” 9. Every phone booth in Australia is free. (I especially loved calling Santa from one outside the Patonga Boathouse Restaurant.) 8. Bush soap is made with waddle seed leaves and water.(He pulled over and gave us a demonstration ; ). 7. TREES GLORIOUS TREES! The towering and majestic conifers (I’m totally enamored with) that dot the country side and beaches are Norfolk Island Pines. The other trees we found absolutely stunning displaying intense purple blossoms that paint the ground with their near magical purple blooms, are Jacarandas. 6. One of Australians’ favorite fish, Barramundi is “nothing but Asian sea bass.” I quite enjoyed mine with the crispiest, tastiest “chips”(ff) in all of Australia, at Patonga Boathouse Restaurant, which also has thee tastiest raspberry jam on the planet, aaand the loveliest indoor/outdoor bathroom. 5. Kangaroos and emus can't walk backwards and that's why they're on the Australian coat of arms. 4. The fairy penguins on Lyon Island now dwell in concrete bunkers made by the locals after a Great fire killed many of them. 3. Lapwing plover birds have thorns in their wings and they attack school children on the way to school ... but they're only protecting their eggs! 2. The schools have locked down drills once a year for snakes. The children have to go inside until the snake catcher comes and rids them of the poisonous snake. And the # 1 thing we learned from Matt while touring NSW Australia….Drum roll please… 1. Kangaroos do fire drills (at the Wildlife Refuge ; ). Bonus tip: Compared to the bats under Congress Ave bridge in Austin, TX, the bats in AUStralia are monstrous!Written 19 November 2024
- 447tisha0 contributionsPerfect day in natureWonderful day of exploring and adventure with Matt. We specifically wanted to ride horses and get up close with nature. Glenworth Valley was a great place for an Autumn ride and as we are all experienced riders, they let us canter a bit. Matt got some nice pictures of all of us on horseback and other nice pictures that he provided us that evening. We also really enjoyed the wildlife encounter and learned quite a bit (even for our animal loving kids who had done all her school reports for years on animals). Finished the day at Avoca Beach where tide pools and scenery was something we have not seen before. And a little surprise stop to see flying foxes roosting by the hundreds in a neighborhood forrest. Highly recommend booking for an enjoyable family day with Matt as he knows everything about the area and the animals.Written 11 June 2024
- Meander298924050820 contributionsSpectacular tour - Blue MountainsThe Blue Mountain tour with Matt was spectacular - amazing views from various locations; we learned a lot about wildlife, fauna, etc. And equally great was spending the day with Matt - a kind, knowledgeable, and funny gentleman. An all day tour went by quickly. Definitely a “big day out” tour. Another plus is Matt is a professional photographer and provides pictures post tour. Don’t miss the opportunity to book a tour with the “wildlife whisperer” of Sydney Guided Tours. 🐨Written 29 January 2024
- Charles M0 contributionsIf you just have a day in Sydney, this is the tour for you! What an amazing day! We were arriving in Sydney at the end of a cruise and wanted to experience everything in the city and rainforest in a day. This is the tour to do it. Matt was extremely helpful in setting up the tour, customizing it to our interests and being flexible with our schedule and needed drop off and pickup points so we could see as much as possible. He responded to all communications promptly and even helped with suggestions for other parts of our vacation. Georgia was a great tour guide. She arrived right on time and was extremely knowledgable of Sydney, the surrounding areas and especially of the plants and wildlife in the area. More importantly, she was an amazing and giving person and was willing to share her personal travel stories and experiences with us during the tour. Georgia customized the tour along the way so we could maximize the experience. Matt and Georgia know out of the way places, tricks of the trade and arranged unique experiences to make our time in Sydney extra special. I won’t share these so they will be a special surprise for you on your tour. If you are going to be in Sydney, you have to get in touch with these mates!Written 18 January 2024
- Igrandmaof30 contributionsSydney with friends!Best day! Matt is a great tour guide. He took us horseback riding, to a private winery, to the ocean for lunch, to see koalas and kangaroos and to a couple different beautiful places in the off beaten path.Written 3 November 2023
- Sightsee7912330 contributionsCompletely immersed in the Blue Mountains with MattMy wife and I had an incredible day with Matt and he customized the day perfectly to our needs and also took us places we never would have known about. In fact, an Uber driver the next day mentioned a place in the blue mountains he really enjoyed but that tour guides don’t go there but that in fact WAS one of Matt’s destinations for us. Matt also took some great pictures of us that we couldn’t have taken ourselves. He is very knowledgeable about the plants, animals, history and geography. We felt completely immersed in the landscape and culture throughout the day. Thanks Matt!!!Written 9 October 2023
- 770shantellec0 contributionsA perfect dayThe day far exceeded any expectations and turned out to be simply perfect. My boyfriend and I had a lovely day with Matt who was a fun tour guide who made us laugh and shared with us his knowledge of the land and showed us the secret spots to get great photos and breathtaking views. Matt was so kind being our photographer and took some fantastic photos. The horse riding was a fun and exciting adventure. I highly recommend Matt and this tour as a wonderful way to spend the day sightseeing and learning about our beautiful land. Thank you Matt for the adventure!Written 17 September 2023
- guslindy0 contributionsFantastic Aussie Bush Experience Online! We joined Matt on his online bushwalk as a special activity for our mostly migrant adult leaners and their teachers. As a group of Melbournians in the middle of lockdown we especially appreciated the magnificent views, the trees, the feeling of fresh bush air, the off-track experience and Matt's fabulous commentary. He made it enjoyable and educational for all of us and I would highly recommend this tour for a taste of the Aussie Bush!Written 5 September 2020
- adrianctzeyoung0 contributionsThe only tour you need!If you only had a day or 2 in Australia, this is the only tour you need to experience all things Aussie. We got picked up in a private, comfortable vehicle, by our super-friendly, knowledgeable and polite guide Matt, and off we went. Matt took us to the best pristine beaches on the Central Coast. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the sun, surf and sand - just like the locals and sure beats trudging around in Sydney city hustle and bustle (which is what we would have done if not for this tour). Lunch was at an amazing and reasonably-priced restaurant on the water watching ..... huge pelicans!!!!! What a treat it was for us. The town itself was a lovely quaint little coastal town. Did I mention we got to pat free-roaming kangaroos and emus??? There were also koalas, dingos, birds, wombats, reptiles. We hate seeing animals in cages and used for human amusement so we were very pleased when Mat took us to this wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary closely simulated the animal's natural environment and conservation was a big part of the park's work. Matt took us on a walk through the beautiful bushland where we took the best family photos overlooking a valley, and we had a great time discovering Aboriginal carvings! If history is you thing Matt also includes a brief history lesson. He really knew his way around and his passion shines through. Thank you Matt for showing us "your back yard" and creating our Australian memories.Written 4 January 2020

This tour was wonderful. We went so many places. National Park, Coffee and Pastries at outdoor cafe, Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary Where we had a Koloa encounter and an echidna encounter, then we had lunch on the beach. My daughter is a zoology major and just finished a class on bats, so she wanted to see the fruits bats in nature, so he took us to this wonderful spot where there were hundreds of bats hanging in the trees. It was amazing. I was fascinated at how they interacted, moved and the sounds they made. Then we headed to the chocolate factory, wine and chocolate on the beach and we ended our trip looking at carvings in the rocks and seeing a beauriful sunset. Matt fulfilled everything we wanted to see and do in Australia. From seeing flying foxes and a kookaburra in the wild to dining at places that have beautiful views to look at while we were dining. I loved how he gave us several options so that we could customize our tour to exactly what we wanted to see and do. I loved the Walkabout Wildlife sanctuary. The animal encounters were extra special. I also loved that Matt grew up in Australia exploring the woods as a child. He gave us so much information and answered all our questions we had. Communication was great, he was on time, and very accommodating. Also, Matt took a lot of great photos of all our adventures which we were able to download them all once he send the link. I am so glad we ended our trip this way. It was perfect! Thank you Matt of and amazing tour. We look forward to coming back to Sydney, and when we do the first thing I am going to do is book another private tour with Sydney Guided Tours

We had thee most amazing 12+ hours touring the Sydney countryside with Matt. We saw a few great vista points in Sydney before we started to venture outside the City.
We took some short nature hikes with Matt where he would explain the complexities of the harsh bush countryside. We had no idea. We then visited an animal rescue center. We got to get close up and personal with emus, kangaroos, Koalas, meerkats, Tasmanian devils, wallabies, and wombats. Matt even arranged for us to be at the animal rescue at feeding time so many of the animals were quite lively.
After we did some additional exploring, visiting some beautiful beaches and he even arranged for a wine stop at an awesome tide pool. And the wine was quite good.
Matt took pictures with his camera while we toured throughout the day and sent them to us the next day. What a great bonus to chronicle our adventure.
Our time in Australia was limited. We wanted to pack in as much Australian experiences we could in a short time. This tour far exceeded our expectations and my wife and I will have this great memory for life.
Thank you Matt for sharing your passions with us.

Where do I begin? Can’t imagine a more ideal day than the one we spent with Matt. He is a delightful knowledgeable guide, and it’s hard to imagine how we managed to see everything we saw in less than 12 hours. No guide can control wildlife, but we saw 100% of what we hoped to see. If you love wildlife, being outdoors, and learning about the places you visit, book this tour!! Matt is amazing!
He also provided gorgeous photos of our day!
My favorite was hanging out w Arnold the koala at the wildlife park.
Here are a few snapshots I took. Matt’s were better!

It’s always special when the wildlife cooperates, from cockatoos in the morning to whales at sunset!... and Arnold the koala does have a way of stealing the show, doesn’t he?
Capturing special moments with photography is my passion. Your snapshots turned out great as well!

We had the most amazing day with Matt. He managed to not only pack in a ton of incredible activities and provide authentic and original experiences, but he also kept our teenage son so fully engaged that our son barely took out his phone as he was fully immersed in the action. He tailored the day to our interests, and flexed with our needs…stopping at a chocolate factory when we needed a snack and ending the day watching the sunset toasting with wine/juice! We saw so much in one day…from aboriginal rock carvings in an abandoned quarry, to a grove of trees home to thousands of fruit bats; from the gorgeous cliffs of coastal beaches to an animal preserve with koala and kangaroo experiences; from a hike through the bush with surprise breathtaking views of the river, to a pearl farm at the water’s edge…and so much more. We loved meeting aboriginal artist Garry Purchase and learning about the deep meaning of his art. And, as if all of that wasn’t enough, Matt took beautiful professional quality photos of our family throughout the day that he emailed high res digital images to us that same evening. Matt shared with us the Australia he knows and loves from his unique perspective as a local, which was exactly the type of guide we wanted. It was truly a magical day providing us with memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you Matt!!!

Matt is an amazing tour guide! He spent two full days with my parents and me driving us around the outskirts of Sydney. He came up with an itinerary that fit our needs, taking us to off-the-beaten-path destinations which weren’t crowded with other tourists. It was perfect for what we hoped to get out of our trip. He even went above and beyond by recommending and driving us to restaurants at the end of each day. Additionally, he is a professional photographer and a great conversationalist! We felt very comfortable with him, learned lots from his stories, and got great family pictures! Thank you Matt!!

This private Sydney tour was a highlight of our Australia trip!!!
Matt is an extremely knowledgable local guide who has a talent to make people feel at ease. He listens to his guests interests and caters the tour accordingly. It felt like being guided by a friend to very interesting local spots without tour groups or large crowds to spoil the experience.
I saw the wildlife I wanted to see - including the koala/kangaroo and wallabies at the Wildlife Sanctuary which was so much fun! (A big thanks to Jet (volunteer) who provided the information on all the wildlife in the sanctuary’s care - her passion was infectious). I loved seeing the hopping parade during feeding. :) We also saw stunning views of meandering rivers, learned about many native plants, birds, and a few interesting insects on a local bush walk at a conservation reserve. I had never seen or heard a Kookaburra before this tour and now I have a new perspective on the childhood song!
Lunch was excellent and located at a beautiful beach that was unspoiled by tourism. We saw a local artist whose work was inspiring and who has a natural gift for story-telling (thank you Garry!). Matt is an excellent photographer and sent us photos of these and many other unique memories we had to remember our trip. We were completely engaged and having fun the whole day - Thank you again Matt!

Matt tailored our experience to exactly what we wanted considering it was winter and what was available. The tour was outstanding and never ending... he went above and beyond throughout the day and extended our time considerably to shoe us his home beach and other areas in the bush past sunset to explore additional native carvings and view the southern cross. We can't recommend setting up a tailored trip with Matt enough. Just do it!!!

Wow! It truly is Australia in One Day. The day starts and ends with views of Sydney Harbour with the sun at your back. Urban suburban bush beach river and ocean waves with crashing surf between rocky outcroppings. Aboriginal carvings. And the animals; Iguana monitor wallabys and kangaroos fruit bats, colorful birds and that oh so cuddly koala who put on a show. So much is crammed into the day, yet we were never rushed. Great guide. Well designed itinerary with more to do than you can do. Perfect, you get choices.

My wife and I recently visited Sydney, Australia for the first time. And were lucky enough to get connected with Matt, a seasoned resident and all around great guy! Matt's experience with the Australian outback is extensive and began as a young man growing up in the Sydney area. In addition to his experience with all things nature and wildlife Matt is also an accomplished videographer and photographer. We had the chance to see and experience the rare parts of Sydney from its beaches to the bush, like no other tour I know of. Matt’s connection with local merchants and wildlife keepers we encountered along the way are a testament to Matt’s professionalism and courtesy, they were always glad to see him and made us feel like part of their family. Getting to touch and closely interact with species only found in Australia. The kangaroos, koala bears, and wallabies were amazing! I can’t say enough about this experience, you’ll just have to try it yourself.

Hello! Where exactly is the wildlife park where you take guests? I'm planning on staying at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga and don't want to duplicate experiences?

Hey Sam, just found this message. It's Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary. Take care, Matt

If I’m traveling from the US. Given the itinerary, how long should I wait? Is two days enough to get over jet lag? First time traveler to your beautiful country.

Hi Vickie!
Thank you for your enquiry. Although our tour is packed with fun activities throughout the day, it will not be an exhausting day - but a relaxing and truly enjoyable one! If you do tend to experience jetlag, yes, I think you will be fine for this tour after a day's rest. Australia really is a beautiful country, and I can't wait to show you some beautiful places even locals don't know about - away from the usual tourist crowds!
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Matt

Hey, hope you’re doing well.
Could you please let me know if this program is being affected by bushfire in these days? FYI, I’m planning to attend it on 24th Feb.
Thanks

Hi Jungwoop435,
Thank you for your enquiry! Our tour is not affected by the bushfires. Where we are going is not where the fires are, so please do not worry. Yes we are still available for the 24th Feb. We hope we get to show you our beautiful bushlands, beaches and wildlife.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
Kind regards,
Matt
