Overview

Get in touch with Hawaii’s culture and rugged terrain with a half-day, professionally guided ATV tour offering soaring views of the scared Waipiʻo Valley. A journey through what is known as the “Valley of Kings”, this excursion includes views of the vistas, as well as tropical vegetation, and wildlife. Along the way your guide will provide cultural commentary including the history of the land from ancient to modern times.

What to Expect

Choose from multiple departure times and begin your half-day ride at Waipiʻo Valley Artworks (90-minutes from Kona, 75-minutes from Hilo). Meet your guides, receive a safety orientation, and learn to drive your personal ATV, SideBySide, or buggy. Get fitted with safety equipment and complete a ‘pass or fail’ track ride. If you’d rather not drive, complete the tour in an open-air buggy driven by your guide alongside the ATV group.

Ascend the trails while your guide explains Ancient Hawaii’s political and economic past, and how early agriculture influenced the values that allowed communities to thrive. Make your way above the Waipiʻo Valley and learn about the indigenous species, plants, and aquatic life that call this sacred valley home.

The route covers 12-miles and includes a swim in the waters that feed Hi’ilawe Falls, a refreshment break, passage through a eucalyptus forest, and vista descents overlooking black-sand beaches.

It was a family affair!

We LOVED this excursion! The guides ALL of them were awesome. Jeremy was definitely the bad cop showing his bossy side and making sure we all understood no shenanigans were allowed. And Savannah, Annie and Kai were super cool. We had a wet tour with...More

You should be fine. The only walk was the short stairs to the waterfall but you can take you time since they stop at the waterfall for snacks and a swim.

You might be able to do it if you rode in one of the buggies. You do stop 3 times and do a short bit of walking, so it might be a challenge. The stop where you go to the waterfall might be too much. You have to do some... More
