Had a couple of fantastic trips with Evaristo from BigBlue Adventures. We went on the Sete Cidades Hike and the Gorreana tea plantation hike and tour. On both hikes, Andre provided us with so much interesting information about Azorean history, the flora and fauna and Portuguese culture in general. Andre was an excellent guide and accomplished speaker of English. Would definitely recommend BigBlue Adventures for any of your adventures!

This was our first excursion upon landing in Sao Miguel, and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide, Vasco Pimental, was well-educated on the island facts and willing to entertain and answer all our questions about the Azorean culture. The tour was a mix of interesting and unique sites and local food. We especially enjoyed our delicious Cozido lunch at Vale das Furnas. We were initially worried that a day-long tour would be too long, but the day flew by. We would highly recommend this tour and Vasco in particular. Furnas is a must-see for anyone traveling to Sao Miguel.

My friend and I visited the Azores in December and wanted to hike. This tour was amazing!! Andre was our guide and was incredible! He was very knowledgeable and genuinely wanted us to enjoy his island. He knows many languages and spoke English beautifully. The hike is about 2.5 hrs plus time to stop and take pictures. It can be steep and thin/muddy trails so I would recommend water, hiking shoes, and good health (if you aren’t regularly active I believe this would be difficult to hike). We heard during peak tourist season this trial is crazy busy but we LOVED our off season experience!! Weather was perfect! After André packed us a beautiful picnic and answered all the questions we had. Highly recommend this tour if you want to experience nature and André to help you understand the beautiful of the azores!

The view was amazing and the hike was nice. We are just waiting for some pictures he took of us at the waterfalls when we were swimming.

We booked a half day hiking tour on Sao Miguel and received a confirmation email when booking. The day before our tour, I called to confirm the pickup time and location and was told they had no record of my reservation. Despite providing my booking number and the confirmation email, I was told they were full and we would not be allowed on the tour or picked up as scheduled. They were unhelpful in providing any solutions. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM as they may or may not honor your reservation

Wonderful experience. The island is one of the best kept secret in europe Evaristo is an amazing guide : his knowledge of the island and its history is unsurpassed and his passion for the local flora contagious. He knows how to blend in with guests and satisfy their wishes for an unforgettable experienccannot wait to come back

Manuel was an amazing and knowledgeable guide that showed us a great time on this tour! He picked us up in Ponta Delgada and then we went to the Cha Gorreana tea plantation and Furnas. My girlfriend and I were looking for an engaging excursion with lunch (the local stew) from the Fumaroles in Furnas. We loved the tour and the food! Manuel was so helpful, as he also gave us dinner recommendations for that night and even took us to the airport a ew days later!

I did 2 solo hikes with the company and got lots of amazing and invaluable information about the island, nature, local vegetation and life. My first hike was to Faial da Terra and a lovely waterfall, followed by a delicious lunch at one of the cute seafood restaurants. Another was Lagoa do Fogo - one of the best hikes on the island. However, since I am a blogger and photographer, I was also interested in checking out local villages, a liqueur store, a town nearby, etc., and the owner's son was beyond accommodating and helpful. You won't find friendlier people than those running BigBlue Adventures. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I had the pleasure of being invited by the owner of the company for "The Chef for a Day" experience. Evaristo, the most hospitable, warm and gracious host, took me to the local market early in the morning. Later, he opened his home to me, showing me how to prepare a local fish stew. We made it together in his kitchen and then drove to the fumaroles in Furnas to put it in the ground to cook for a few hours. During the cooking time, he took me on a lovely hike through Grena Park and even drove me to a nearby fishing village to show me the views. We later feasted on his amazing fish cozido at a picnic table right by the lake. He even purchased some island cheeses, bread and incredible wine from Pico Island for me to enjoy. THE MOST UNUSAL AND WONDERFUL DAY IN GREAT COMPANY! I also did 2 hiking tours with them and they were fantastic. THIS COMPANY HAS MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

Went on three different tours with Andre. All of them exceeded expectations. What a wonderful experience! When the weather didn't cooperate, Andre always had a back up plan that never ceased to amaze. Can't say enough good things about him, his depth of knowledge and this company. It really meant a lot to us that Andre was able to encourperate a short stop at my Mother's village, a place she hadn't been in about 65 yrs. He is part of our family now! Obrigad Andre and BigBlue!

The plantation is beautiful and the information regarding the process is educational. However, the experience only took around 15 minutes. There was no speaker or guide and the equipment was not running when we were there.

My husband and I were able to enjoy this amazing experience together with our fantastic guide Andre. Andre took us through the whole process from buying the food, preparing it, burying it, and enjoying an absolutely delicious meal. Thanks for letting us experience this local tradition. This is a full day with hiking, bathing in hot springs, and sight seeing. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Miguel!

BigBlue Adventures have their office in my hotel so I signed up for a tour and have now done another as they were so good. The guides treat you like family and obviously love the work they do and this stunning island. The tours took me to great lookouts and local businesses as well included good substantial lunches both days. Can't recommend them enough!

We did the one day tour of the Seven Cities and Fire Lagoon. Our guide was Manuel, who is extremely knowledgeable of the history of the Azores and the island of Sao Miguel. We had a very long day visiting many places and thoroughly enjoyed it all and the professionalism of Manuel. Excellent!!! Carlos D’Almeida
