If you’re thinking about planning a trip to Italy, particularly southern Italy, I highly recommend that you visit the Cantine Merinum in Vieste, Puglia. It’s a family owned, mom & pop winery with a friendly staff, a gorgeous view, a nice pool, a lovely restaurant & bar with fantastic food, and rooms you can stay in for astonishingly cheap prices! You can tour the vineyard, taste the grapes and olives grown there, sample the wines paired with pugliese dishes, relax by the pool, and you can drive or walk to the incredible beach nearby within minutes.
Cinthya(pronounced Chintsia), part owner and granddaughter of the man who started the winery, gave us a tour. With her knowledge and passion for her wines and of Puglia in general, she is as impressive as her vineyard. It’s rare to meet someone in the United States who knows so much about the local culture, flora & fauna, foods & beverages, natural resources, customs & traditions, conservation & preservation efforts, and history of their region. She takes great pride in being an Pugliese italian and a third generation winemaker. What would our towns be like in America if more of us had such pride in our respective places and practices? There are many reasons why Italy is as impressive as it is, and I believe the collective mindset of the Italian people is chief among them.
Again, if you want an exceptional experience for a surprisingly low price, I can’t recommend Cantine Merinum enough. My wife and I loved it, and we couldn’t help brining back some goodies. Their Bombino Biancho, Malvasia Nera Rosé, Nero Di Troia, and Olive Oil were just too delicious to leave behind!

Small winery born recently with very young vineyards and "female" production.
Cinzia explained the origins of the vineyard and the cellar, through the wonderful journey of memories with her grandfather.
During the sunset tasting tour, we tasted the 3 products from his cellar: Theos, Cynthia e Don Giovanni. One better and more fragrant than the other!
The 3 glasses were accompanied by small tastings of typical local products, also these very good and paired perfectly.
In addition to wine, excellent olives are also grown with which a delicious oil is then produced.
If you are in Vieste, it is worth stopping for a tasting in this small vineyard.

We really enjoyed our wine tasting with Cinzia. She was hugely knowledgeable and engaging as she took us through the history of the vineyard and served us our wine and food accompaniments.
Fortunately for us, she spoke excellent English, which she interspersed with Italian for the majority of the guests, and we always felt included as she made sure to include just as much information in English as she did in Italian.
The wines were delicious, although my partner noted that perhaps the glasses were slightly on the small side for the money paid. Closer to a 125-175ml rather than the 250ml glass you might expect for the experience. If this would be uneconomical, perhaps a top-up of of your favourite glass would be a reasonable alternative. As a comparison, we’ve done whiskey tastings in Scotland where the whole experience (5 whiskey tastings + nibbles) was closer to £15-20.
Equally, the food pairings were slightly on the small side, only a little bigger than a mouthful. Appreciate that these are only to accentuate the wines but as this takes place over dinner time, perhaps more bread and slightly larger portions might have felt more like a light dinner rather than canapés.
Overall, the tour is very much worth doing and Cinzia is a fantastic host. We just hope that the team are able to refine the experience to ensure guests feel like they get value for money.

Thank you very much for your review.
The tour is a tasting not a dinner, this note is well written about the experience, furthermore in Italy we have dinner at 9pm, so we don't fill our guests too much. Furthermore, the glasses are tasting glasses, otherwise you would no longer be able to understand what I am explaining, because you would be completely drunk at the end of the tasting, given that the visit to the vineyard and cellar follows. Furthermore, the cost of the tasting depends on the quality of the wines and ours far satisfy the price paid, plus my culture is included in the price. Thank you for your note, but usually in wine tastings there are only Crisini and Taralli, here you eat and learn about a wonderful area.
Greetings
Cynthia

A young company with excellent marketing but little substance.
The wine tasting is accompanied by dishes and description. The food was good, the wines young and the description of Cinzia very amateur. The waitress who served us food, wearing sunglasses, at 18:30 in the evening!!!! Nice story between Cinzia and her grandfather.
The visit to the vineyard described by Cinzia, without any explanation, did not happen.... Let me explain, Cinzia took us to see a vineyard adjacent to the Padre Pio complex. But it was not the one described in the brochure or on the site, which seems to be a few kilometers away... In other words, we have not seen the grapes that are used to produce this wine...
About the cellar, Cinzia told us that we were lucky to get in, because other times they don't let in... This is strange, as this part of the visit is specified in the experience description.
To encourage the passion that Cinzia expressed, I bought a few bottles of wine, although in my opinion 20.25 euros is too much. Good luck and I hope you can improve this experience.

Saluti
Cinzia

A very enjoyable evening with the owner who is a very pleasant lady, and went out of her way to ensure we had a nice time. I would very much recommend the tour. The vineyard is a relatively young one, but we enjoyed tasting a white, red and rose along with really excellent bits of finger food.

Cinzia, our gracious host, provided excellent explanations as we enjoyed three wines paired with delightful dishes, all of which were delicious! We left extremely satisfied, having learned a great deal, and thoroughly enjoyed Cinzia's captivating storytelling about the wines. Overall, a highly recommendable experience!

We are from Australia- grandparents travelling with children (2 vegans) and 8 month old grandchild - and this was no problem and we were made to feel very welcome! The tasting includes beautiful wine and food and includes a personal and comprehensive explanation of the wines, the olives and olive oil they produced, the history of the area and the family vineyard. The tour of the vines and cellar were equally enjoyable. We had a wonderful evening in a beautiful location with excellent food and wine. I highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting the area.

From start to finish the wine tour was amazing! Cinzia is an amazing host and a very hard worker.
The wine and food were delicious (we bought all three bottles) and the olive oil they make is amazing! (we bought that too). Every wine we tested had a story that was shared with the group, Cinzia made us feel welcomed by taking the time to retell every story in English who che was greatly appreciated.
Cinzia picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off after the tour was done, she was very welcoming and I have zero complaints about her and the villa she runs.
This wine tour was a nice touch to our beach vacation, we had time to go to the beach during the day and ended our night at the winery. The winery itself is very beautiful, clean and I would love to go back if I ever have the chance.

We experience a wonderful wine tasting and dinner in September 2024
We booked directly online with the business and enjoyed Cinzia’s wine tour and information on the history of wine growing and viticulture in Vieste.
Cinzia is very passionate about her vineyard and the wine making process handed down from her Italian grandfather.
The meal was outstanding - 4 courses with 3 excellent wines and their delicious olive oil.
Highly recommend this experience 10/10
Worth the 10 minute drive from Vieste town

This was really one of the highlights of our holidays in Gargano! Cynthia explained with passion the different wines, its tastes, the elaboration, how they are linked to Gargano and her family background. It was a pleasure to hear the explanations, enjoy the wines with all five senses and eat delicious oil, cheese and sausages at the same time. The wines were excellent! At the end Cynthia brought us to the vineyards to enjoy the sunset, the perfect end. We were only two friends and Cynthia took all time and dedication only for us two. Thank you vert much Cynthia, we definitely recommend it!
