About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- igrnz0 contributionsA great way to learn about historyWe wanted to visit the the battle sites and learn more about what happened here, particularly with respect to the involvement of the New Zealand troops. Anna picked us up at our accommodation and took us to a number of locations as she explained what actualy happened here and the surrounding area. We also visited the Commonwealth War Cemetery before going up to the Abbey. Anna is a local and is passionate about the war history of this area. She was friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant and she made the tour very enjoyable. Before leaving us where we asked to be dropped off in the town she gave us some recommendations of other things to do and restaurants to eat at. She is highly recommended.Written 3 November 2019
- flamingogirl540 contributionsExcellent tour guideMy husband has always wanted to visit Montecassino. If you have any interest in the Abbey and all of the WWII history surrounding this area Anna is the guide you need. We were picked up at the Casino strain station and spent a very informative 4 hours with this most knowledgable woman. She is a true gem. Thank you Anna for a wonderful visit to Montecassino and the surrounding area.Written 22 May 2019
- Adventure822940 contributionsAnna is the best!!Wonderfull tour, guided by Anna Priora. The lady knows everything, from the big event to the small detail. Valeu a pena, certamente estarei de volta. Obrigado Anna!Written 20 October 2018
- EVCSK0 contributionsExcellent tour guide!Anna is very knowledgeable about the events in and around Cassino. I recommend her services. She picked us up at the train station on time, in her Panda, and we spent 4 hours together visiting the abbey and the cemeteries.Written 17 October 2018
- 946roger0 contributionsAnna is great! My sister and I (along with 9 other members of our family) were visiting our Grandfather's Memorial for the first time and Anna helped keep a very emotional day on track. We started with a quick espresso in town and then made the trek up the mountain to the Abbey for a tour and very informative history of how the abbey was destroyed in WW2 and subsequently rebuilt by the town once the war was over. The Abbey itself is very beautiful and worth a visit on it's own........Anna also understood when to give our family space at the Memorial after giving us the information we needed to find our Grandfather's name. Anna was great taking us through the Abbey and walked us through a short pictorial history. I strongly recommend using her services to really allow for a full understanding of the history of the abbey and surrounding areas. Thanks Anna!Written 4 June 2018
- Charlotte S0 contributionsBrilliant!Absolutely brilliant. Anna was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable and insightful. She showed us various sites and explained the battles in a clear and interesting way. Great value for money would definitely recommend her 😊Written 5 April 2018
- Appleman20 contributionsMonteCassinoWe had a wonderful tour of MonteCassino with Anna Marie Priora. I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps, as he fought near MonteCassino during WWII. Anna was the right tour guide...she had a command of the history and many stories that made the tour and its history come alive. I could picture my father as she recounted details of the famous battle. We worked our way up to the Montecassino Monestary, where we encountered the priests/monks who continue to keep the monasstery alive. Anna is well educated, highly professional and an excellent command of English, among other languages she speaks. I would recommend using Anna as your private guide, for any tour she offers.Written 2 November 2017
- Peter C0 contributionsBattlefield Tour with Anna PrioraWe were lucky enough to get a tour with Anna at short notice and were very happy we did. She is very knowlegeable and balanced in here opinions in relation to the Montecassino battles and the Italy campaign in general.Written 2 October 2017
- Fl_travelergville0 contributionsProfound Tour Brilliantly Organized & Led by Anna PrioraWe arranged a trip to see where my father-in-law was wounded and captured by the Germans during WWII. Anna Priora was very easy to work with to customize our visit and she and our charming driver, Mauricio, were flexible when our tour needed to be delayed by two hours because we got on the wrong train at Rome Termini (a train at 20B is not the second, but third train on track 20).Anna was very compassionate and knowledgeable, with a keen humanistic point of view toward all of the war participants and victims. It was an emotional experience to visit the Gari River where we learned the actual Battle of the Rapido River took place and imagine the conditions the soldiers endured on January 22, 1944 when so many lost their lives and my father-in-law was wounded by mortar from the Germans on the surrounding hillside. We were warmly surprised to see the statues, plaques and freedom bells that commemorate the events and to hear that to this day the local women continue to place flowers there and hold ceremonies to honor those who fought for freedom. Annia showed us the caves where the Germans hid and explained the entire sequence of events leading up to the bombing and rebuilding of the spectacular Montecassino Monastery that we toured. The afternoon was a profound experience brilliantly led by Anna who also provides links to additional pictures and information and we highly recommend her tour.Written 13 May 2017
- Diana C0 contributionsAuthentic experienceWe found Anna online and found her to be very easy to deal with. She is a local and can talk about her and her family's experiences of living in Cassino. We had a great tour and I highly recommend Anna as a guide. We came away with a greater understanding of the impact of these battles on everyone involved, not just the soldiers. The Abbey is breathtaking and we had lots of time there as well as other points of interest.Written 28 December 2016
- fu99ie0 contributionsA beautiful place shadowed by a painful past. What can one say? Anything I say won't describe the beautifully decorated internal chambers of the church within this monastery, the resting place of St. Benedict & St. Scholastica. The panoramic views are something to behold. Nearby you can visit a beautifully designed & kept WW2 Polish Cemetery, which is a humbling experience in itself.Written 30 October 2016
- saraahbii0 contributionsBravissimo Anna, Ceccano, e Macelleria Ciotoli! My family and I were referred to Anna Priora for our visit to Ceccano, where my great grandfather was born. Anna met us at the train station and immediately gave off a warm welcoming attitude before navigating us through the tiny, windy hill town to the church of our great grandfather, the home where he was born, and a family butcher shop! We marched through the town finding our family name, Ciotoli, plastered on multiple buildings. En route to the church where my great grandfather was baptized, Anna shared unique history of the town, the region, and the culture. Upon arriving at the church she spoke with the staff to help locate his baptismal record! The dug and climbed through mountains of documents int he rectory, remarkable experience. As non-native speakers with bastardized versions of the Italian language as our primary communication, Anna was absolutely instrumental here. Similarly, as we walked toward my great grandfather was born, we stumbled into Macelleria Ciotoli where we met the phenomenal Luciano Ciotoli. Once again, Anna was invaluable, explaining to Zio Luciano who we were and why we were in the neighborhood. He turned to us and said, "Let me show you what we do here." He then shared incredible buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, salsicce dolci e salsicce peperoncino, bread, and drinks. His mother was equally warm and inviting and the shop was stocked with amazing local or regional products. We were lucky to have caught them while they were open and have Anna to translate on our behalf. I know I speak for everyone when I say, the experience would not have been the same without Anna, and Ceccano was the highlight of the trip to Italy. Grazie mille!!!Written 29 November 2015
- Paul T0 contributionsMontecassino and Commonwealth War GravesWe visited from Sorrento on a guided full day tour in October. The sun shone all day.It was one of the highlights of our holiday in Italy and we were able to visit the locations where my wife's father fought(and survived) his extensive war journey from Africa through Italy to Rome via Naples and Montecassino. The monastery of Montecassino is now a peaceful mountain top oasis- very different from 1944.The war graves are a testament to the bravery of men and boys was gave their lives from nations throughout the Commonwealth. Our guide Elijah was informative and caring and made the day an experience to rememberWritten 18 October 2015
- mandy h0 contributionsMovingA beautiful peaceful place with a starkly different history. Very moving to hear the dreadful loss of life during WW2 . Ruined by bombing & now rebuilt ,this is a definite visit if you are in the area, we also visited the nearby Commonwealth Cemetary , incredibly moving , quiet & well kept , a place to reflect on our visit & pay our respects, it reduced me to tears.Written 13 October 2015
- barbsbeach0 contributionsbeautiful and inspiringThe history behind Monte Cassino is amazing. You can actually see the bombing on film from the war and then see the finished product after this abbey was brought back to life. It is truly a beautiful building and you get quite a spiritual feeling when you are there. Like the vatican you can not get in wearing shorts or sleeveless tops.Written 23 July 2015

This was a last minute booking and I am so glad I made it .
Anna picked me up at the railway Station in Cassino and I found I was that mornings only passenger in the airconditioned mini bus.
We drove south away from Cassino to a position below where Gen. Mark Clark had taken a view over the battlefield Of Monte Cassino which meant our view was as he would have seen it.
Anna explained the phases of the battle and was clearly very knowledgeable about her subject.
I should have made a note about where we stopped but one stop was at the Rapido river where the Americans had tried to cross.
The next stop was at the Commonwealth War Cemetery which was overlooked by the Abbey, a very emotional stop.
Onto the Abbey where we had a good look around some of the battle damaged buildings and she explained the process of the Abbey being rebuilt after the bombing .
Anna was a great guide, very chatty and friendly and we had a good chat not only about the battle but life in general, I would 100% recommend her as a guide.

Anna Priora is a brilliant tour guide. She provided a tremendous amount of background to the actual battle and highlighted various sites which allowed a visual perspective of the battlegrounds which added to the overall experience.. The tour material, as presented by Anna, was never boring and her continuing commentary was very informative. Finally, Anna's pleasant demeanor and sense of humor greatly enhanced the overall experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the Battle of Montecasino.

A wonderful, not to be missed, experience. Anna, is a kind, supportive and extraordinarily knowledgeable guide who wears her immense learning and local knowledge lightly. She is able to clearly explain the course of the battles whilst humanising and bringing them to life with a wealth of anecdotes. The tour is well paced, with ample time to explore and, if you wish, privately reflect, at each stop. Please do not miss this opportunity if you are in the Cassino area. Worth every cent!

I'd seen a documentary on TV about the battle but no documentary could do it justice. I need to see the physical space, geometry, background and details to get some understanding, and Anna did that, in spades.
Anna's communication was great and clear and she pointed us to other sites for the next day we would otherwise have missed.
My partner had been less keen before hand but afterwards she agreed it was money very well spent.

My husband's father was in the US Army 36th Infantry Division during WWII and was in the battles around Cassino/Rapido River. I am so glad I found Anna's tour of this area. What a gift for us to be able to see the battlefields, hear the stories of what was happening during that time, and the aftermath. Anna's PhD in the 4 Cassino battles and the fact that she lives along the Rapido River gave us so much good info. She is also a gifted story-teller and made us feel like we were there, as well as giving us a much better understanding of what Jim's father experienced. She showed us the area from several different physical perspectives, which added to our understanding. I highly recommend this tour!

Anna is Fabulous! Another group cancelled, so it was just Anna and myself. She is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging and just great company to walk/drive the important areas to understand the events of the battles. When she realised I had already been to the commonwealth cemetery she was very flexible and we went to the Polish cemetery instead. Overall a fabulous few hours that I genuinely enjoyed.

My wife and I did “Monte Cassino Battlefield Tour in the footsteps of Poles” with Anna. Arranging the tour was very easy.
Anna is a very knowledgeable about the battle and WW2 in general. She made the tour interesting and enjoyable for both myself (who enjoys military history) and my wife (much less keen). I had a personal interest in the battle (family history) and she tailored it accordingly. Anna is very good at painting a picture of what happened and its importance even for those unfamiliar with battle and the context within which it was fought.
Our tour concluded in Monte Casino Monastery itself, where Anna’s personal stories (and that of her family) made it very poignant and taught us a lot about the aftermath and post-war reconstruction.
I would highly recommend this tour for anyone with a polish connection or just an interest in Monte Casino. And I would recommend Anna as a tour guide in general.

Visiting the scene of such a huge and horrendous battle (or battles) where our father fought in WW2 was very moving and was very much brought to live by our excellent and knowledgeable tour guide Anna. If you know nothing about WW2 the Abbey itself is worth the visit. We travelled from Naples to Cassino by train (this country could learn a lot about public transport from the Italians) and met Anna outside the station exactly as she described. She drove the four of us around on the tour in her car stopping at several points of interest. If your interest is very much in the battles fought there then some pre-research is an advantage. There are several books on the subject. The view from the Abbey itself is amazing. Visiting Cassino was the main purpose of our trip to Naples and Anna didn't disappoint.

We had an amazing day doing the Polish battlefield tour, thanks to Anna, the lovely guide. As well as being able to explain the battle, those involved, their personalities, and show you the landscape that makes Monte Cassino such a tough battle, she makes it come alive. She has an amazing collection of stories and anecdotes from other veterans and their families about what went on - giving it that personal, and moving, touch, that you don't get from just reading about it.
An unforgettable experience.

Anna is an excellent guide and hostess, from meeting us at the bus stop and making us feel comfortable, explaining how the battles of Monte Cassino developed and the reasons for each. She is extremely knowledgeable but also patient with the less informed members of the tour, making sure everyone felt welcome and part of the tour. While the battles were extremely well covered, the visit to the Abbey also felt special, as Anna is from the local area bringing a special passion and warmth. We have been on many similar tours across Europe and would recommend Anna’s tour to all.

Hi if I don’t have data to use with my mobile phone can I still join the tour?

Hi, my wife and myself have just booked your tour on 11 September.
We both are from New Zealand & both have family that were involved in the battle.
We are staying in Cassino the night before the tour, and I am wondering whether there is a facility to store our bags at the railway station whilst we are with the tour?
We are spending 6 weeks in your wonderful country, and are both really looking forward to the tour.
Thanks Nigel & Judith Riddle
