My wife and I came back to Tromso Norway from Florida because of our 2019 experience with Greenlander. We spent two night with Greenlander in a small group tour and a private day tour. In 2019 we did three private tours. We came back because Greenlander and Markus are simply works class. Unparalleled professionalism, enthusiasm, hard work, and unparalleled hospitality. Because if these qualities they have a better chance than others if actually spotting the lights. However, there is no guarantee. On our first night we hardly saw anything. Its on the tougher nights that Greenlander really stands out. They go the extra mile, they leave no stone unturned and try so hard it’s inspirational.

I would suggest a minimum of 2 night with them plus a day tour. The views around Tromso during the day are spectacular.

I will be coming back with my kids to see the lights but ski so they can witness Greenlander at work as it’s a model of what it means to be world class.

Just Freakin Awesome’

I cannot express enough thanks and gratitude to the two magicians that are Markus and Matteo. I got a message asking if they could pick up at 17:30 instead of 19:00 as Finnish weather was favourable and so it started. The most stunning drive through deep valleys, by frozen Fjords, sometimes blizzard conditions in a very comfortable Mercedes mini-can. We crossed the border, checked the weather and settled on a frozen lake only to start seeing the glimpse of an Aurora.

It started to grow, weave, form there is nothing to express the beauty and wonderment of a natural phenomenon like this.

There were 8 of us, chatting, joking, taking pictures, freezing our bits off, but luckily the supplied thermal jackets kept us warm.

The light show continued, a fire was lit and we sat, talked and consumed until it was time to depart, the Aurora had subdued enough to call it a day (well night really).

These guys really know what they are doing, it was a homely, friendly and informative experience, chatting in the van about changing aesthetic trolls and all sorts it was just freakin awesome.

If you get to Tromsø book these guys in advance as far as you can, they get booked up.

Special thanks to Matteo for being such a wonderful host, guide and extra safe driver.

This is the trip to BOOK!!
Well!! What an experience! Picked up early by Marcus and the team as they had predicted Finland was the place to go! After 3 hrs driving we arrive at a frozen river on the border of Sweden and Finland and had the most spectacular aura experience ever.. over 2 hours of constant changing light displays. It never seemed to end.We learnt from others in the group that it was a lucky trip as while the others had always seen the lights in shorter displays we got a bonanza of colour,shapes and sizes as the bridges of celestial light joined hands across the night sky. Marcus provided us thermal suits, tripods for cameras and generally assisted everyone. Camp fire, hot chocolate and soup a bonus. In addition Marcus took a pile of professional photos which were efficiently passed on to us the following morning. Highly recommended experience for anyone wanting to do this up here. You will not regret.

The best way to see the Northern Lights

With dogged determination and great instincts, our guide Markus delivered us an extraordinary view of the northern lights on a night when many tours returned empty-handed. We enjoyed delicious soup and great conversation around a fire Markus built on the spot. He also took excellent photos which appeared in our inbox by morning. Can't recommend Greenlander highly enough.

Simply the Best!

Everything with the Greenlander team from the booking process, answering some email queries to the actual tours is extremely professional! We went out with Greenlander two nights in a row, and I am so glad that we didn't book with another provider. On both nights Markus was our guide. Words cannot express the professionalism, knowledge and passion he shows. The first night it was snowing heavily in Tromsø, but we went out hopeful nevertheless. Markus managed to find gaps in the clouds regardless of the satellites being down. It literally turned into a northern lights chase, which we enjoyed as much as the lights themselves. Once we had seen quite a lot of show already, we settled down with a campfire, lovely homemade soup, the famous Knekkebrød and hot chocolate. Thank you so much as well to Kerttu for making such yummy soups 2 nights in a row. The next night, the weather forecast was good and we didn't have to drive around too much. What I am saying is that, when the weather is terrible, Greenlander makes all the difference, because they drive as far as needed in order to see the aurora borealis.
It truly was a magical experience and we cannot thank Markus enough!
A couple of suggestions to finish:
- book Greenlander as soon as you've booked your flights as they get fully booked months in advance
- don't bother booking with other companies, as you will get the best from them

The aurora was smiling …..
A fantastic tour by Greenlander and it’s guide Mateo. We were picked up at 530pm in a 8 passenger van. Mateo was super nice and helpful. He drove for 90 min and found a spot near a lake. We hiked down the snow about 100m and found spot near the lake. After about an hour the aurora display started. We got super lucky as it lasted for about 30 m. Mateo started a fire and served us some hot chocolate and spicy soup (both were very tasty). In about 15 min another aurora show started. This time stronger than the 1st one. Mateo killed the fire and we enjoyed the show. Mateo was helpful in setting up my own camera. Plus he took amazing shots from his own. When we wrapped up and we’re about to leave at 12.30am, we saw a 3rd show of the aurora.

Please keep in mind that the pictures are more vivid than the actual show ! The camera catches much more than the eye can.

Amazing trip ! Amazing guide ! Greenlander hits it out of the park 👏👏👏

Marcus is a legend!
Big thanks to Marcus... northern lights hunter extraordinaire. he's so dedicated in finding the right spot and he's patient ... initially we say a small bit of movement and he knew that we had to wait...which I didn't want to as my feet were starting to get numb ...and it opened up and with some helpful tips from Marcus, I managed to take some amazing pics. we left at 5.30pm. got dropped off at hotel 1am. amazing experience

Minds Blown in the Experience of a Lifetime!
Markus is the man! Our family had an absolutely unforgettable night under the lights with him as our expert guide. Using all the tricks of the trade, live satellite and weather information and his extensive network of real time information, we chased the Northern Lights down. The payoff was something my family will never forget - they were left in awe of the majesty and beauty of all they experienced! Just when we thought it was dying down - eating some lovely homemade soup and hot chocolate- the sky exploded again. The photos we captured with one another and with Markus can only be described as a bit of heaven on earth. Thank you Markus (and to your lovely wife for the home cooking).

Spectacular evening
We had an amazing adventure with Mateo. We arrived to Tromso on the Viking Venus and booked an independent tour with Greenlander based on the great reviews. Mateo made the cold evening so enjoyable from making the fire to the hot chocolate - soup - and roasting marshmallows as we waited for the lights to dance. Of course the best part was the excitement as we saw the lights - colors from green to pink. He captured some great pictures which we received so quickly. It was so worth being patient. Other tours left early but Mateo didn’t want us to miss seeing the lights with our eyes- the bonus was seeing the Milky Way - high praise for Mateo and Greenlander
