Overview
Rather than rushing between the highlights of Iceland's south coast, slow down and fully absorb the experience on this small-group overnight guided tour from Reykjavík. See the famed waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, as well as the black sand beach and basalt columns at Reynisfjara. Hike on the Falljökull Glacier and watch giant icebergs float around Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Includes accommodation and breakfast.
What to Expect
On Tuesdays and Fridays we leave Reykjavik and head straight for the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, which you can walk right behind for the ultimate view, but the waterfalls do not stop there. Next is the powerful Skogafoss waterfall, which is a sight we are sure you will never forget. From here we drive on to Reynisfjara where we will look over the amazing black sand beach and basalt columns and stop for lunch at the Black Beach Restaurant. After lunch we continue east to explore Fjaðrárgljúfur, where you can see the impressive forces of nature that have eroded this spectacular gorge. Driving further east, we pass the mighty Vatnajökull icecap, where we will be dwarfed by Iceland’s highest mountains. We spend the night at the new and incredibly comfortable Lilja Guesthouse, resting up for another action packed day. All the rooms are recently finished with modern fittings and private bathrooms. Dinner from the kitchen at Lilja Guesthouse is always delicious, with the chefs taking advantage of the fresh, local Icelandic produce. With favourable conditions in winter, we will hunt for the magical northern lights.

Our second day starts with the delicious buffet breakfast (included) from Lilja Guesthouse. After breakfast we then go to one of our all time favourite locations in Iceland, the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. We are always mesmerised by the giant icebergs floating around this incredible lagoon and by the washed up icebergs that glisten like crystals down at ‘Diamond Beach’. From here we head back to Skaftafell grabbing snacks to sustain us for the real action of the trip, a hike on one of our favourite outlet glaciers of the mighty Vatnajökull. You will get up close and personal to the the astonishingly beautiful blue ice formations during our hike on the Falljökull glacier. This is always a highlight of any trip to Iceland. We explore the glacier in detail on this hike, taking about fours hours to get some amazing views of the ice fall. This glacier hike is considered of moderate difficulty, with a moderate fitness required. You can expect to walk about six kilometres over uneven and ascending terrain. If the weather makes accessing Falljökull unsafe we have many other incredible outlet glaciers in the region to explore instead, we can usually find a sheltered glacier in one of the valleys. On our way back to Reykjavik we will stop to explore the moss covered lava fields from the devastating Laki eruption in 1782, where your guide will shed light on the history of Iceland’s explosive past. Further stops will be made for dinner, before arriving back in Reykjavik around 9pm.
