The Northern Lights tour from Reykjavík takes you to see a spectacular natural phenomenon which happens during the winter months. The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. Northern Lights in Iceland are visible during the winter months, from September to April.

It’s important to stay warm when you’re out in the dark gazing up at the sky, which is why freshly-baked waffles and hot beverages are available for sale on site. Add some heartwarming comfort to an already amazing experience.*

*Waffles and hot beverages are only available on the 21:00 and 22:00 departures.
  • Maximize your chances of seeing the northern lights on this evening tour
  • Your guide takes you to the best places to spot the elusive phenomenon
  • If you don‘t see any lights, you can join a later tour free of charge
  • Seasonal tour available from September to mid-April
What to Expect
Start your evening northern lights adventure with a pickup from central Reykjavik. Drive out of the city, heading toward clearer skies and some of the best spots from which to see the northern lights. Your guide explains why the aurora occurs, and the science behind the variations in its brightness and color. Head to locations where you are most likely to spot the lights based on the weather and “Aurora forecast.” Follow the lights, admire them, and take pictures if you’ve brought a camera. If you don‘t see any, book the tour again free of charge on another night Journey back to Reykjavik, where the tour ends.
