- kv8300 contributionsThe best ThorWe have done four tours on this trip. This one was the best. The scenery was beautiful. But what we liked most about it was our guide, Thor. (We have had three different Thors on our four tours. This Thor was the best Thor. ) He was informative without pushing, funny without making us a captive audience to amateur comedy hour. He handled unexpected issues calmly. The right guide makes all the difference, especially on an eight hour tour.Written 23 March 2025
- travellerpedro20180 contributionsFantastic Day - Great Sights and a Great Guide! We were only in Iceland for a few days so wanted to see as much as possible. This tour took in a number of sights and they were all so impressive it is impossible to choose the best. Nice, comfortable small tour bus (with WIFI) that picked us up at specified location on time. Our guide, Andres, was fantastic - very knowledgable, articulate and he kept us fed interesting information around not only the sights we were visiting but also Icelandic history. We had plenty of time at the locations to explore and everyone on the bus seemed to really enjoy themselves. Many thanks to Andres for making it such a memorable and interesting day. There are so many of these tours to choose from I would recommend this one as you won’t be disappointed.Written 16 March 2025
- amollies0 contributionsA Great Experience- Well worth it!The bus picked us up promptly without any issue and was equipped with a phone charger usb outlet, as well as overhead storage for belongings. Our driver, Anastasie was well-informed about every location we explored and she also shared so many interesting facts along the way. The tour seemed so short because I was completely immersed in the beauty and history of this incredible island. Highly recommend.Written 15 March 2025

- Roger P0 contributionsExploring Iceland’s WondersThe Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon tour was a fantastic way to experience Iceland’s natural wonders in one day. We were able to visit the Thingvellir National Park as the sun was rising, the erupting Geysir before lunch, and then gaze at the stunning Gullfoss waterfall. Each site offered breathtaking views and a glimpse into Iceland’s unique geology. The best part of the tour was relaxing at the Secret Lagoon with a beverage while reminiscing on the days travels. We highly recommend!!Written 6 March 2025

- 13jennyk0 contributionsUnforgettable adventure! What a fantastic way to see some of the most impressive sights of Iceland. Our driver guide Martin was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, friendly and professional. We experienced a timely and smooth pick up (no wondering if it was our bus at the crowded stop - avoid stop 9 if you can get picked up somewhere else) as he called for us by name from his passenger sheet. On the road and seeing the sights straight away, the bus was comfortable and well equipped (air con and wi-fi!). Each stop was explained in detail, with plenty of time for us to explore before departing for the next stop. We even got to walk lakeside at a hot spring and saw some Icelandic horses up close! Each of the three main stops (the plates, the geyser and the waterfall) were stunning and awe inspiring, and the visit to the Secret Lagoon was a lovely and relaxing way to end the day. We arrived back at our hotel ready for dinner and a good night’s sleep! Highly recommended if you want to pack as much into your available time as possible :)Written 24 February 2025

We booked the Nordic Visitor Five Day Four Night Small Group Tour entitled" Winter Highlights and Northern Lights". Our travel consultant, Gabriela, worked closely with my wife and me in planning the perfect trip including the perfect length (following an outstanding five day trip on "Norway on a Nutshell" (also booked thru Nordic Visitor). Although the group could have had as many as 16 persons, ours was a total of 7 plus our superb guide, Aron. Aron was a fountain of knowledge--from Icelandic history to Icelandic geology to Icelandic culture. He truly made the trip (including some long drives on the super comfortable van) a fascinating one, which we highly recommend!

South Coast small tour, you get Skogafoss, glacier visit, Seljandsfoss, Vik, Reynisfjara beach, in 10 hours (half of which is getting there and back). The glacier was more activity than I anticipated and a pay toilet but it was fine. Other than a few toilets through the trip which had no paper, they were very nice. The full doors and ledges for stuff were great upgrades to what we usually get in the US. Again our driver had a great attitude, good driving, wanted to give us a fantastic experience. This is where I was regretful we had to rely on the group timing and couldn't just stay at places as long as we wanted, but I don't feel I missed anything important. Again, crampons made the visits pretty easy for me. We didn't have any extra time at the Vik rest stop and the restaurant was slow, but the quality is way better than the greasy cold burger you may expect in the US for the same prices. Styrmyr was a fantastic guide.
I recommend using Guide to Iceland as a place to research what tours there are and then finding the direct vendor and booking directly. If you need to make changes or updates, it's best to have the direct contact. I really loved the small bus tours- the drivers were engaging, true Viking culture lovers, they sang, they told stories and jokes, they had great Icelandic playlists, anticipated and avoided crowds, wifi included and the small groups were easier to manage. The buses were a bit crowded, both our mid week tours were full, but comfortable. Many people left their bags on the bus during stops and felt secure.
The large bus tours are less expensive but you have to go to them rather than picked up where you are and won't have the fun in between stories we got. Worth it to me.
Two more tips- don't freak out until it's 15 min past the pick up time. It starts a half hour before but both days the pick ups didn't end until 15 min past, and we were the last pick up on the 2nd day. It just takes a bit more time and give some room. I had clear confirmations on my tours in email and it worked fine.
And the drivers seem to be happy to let you off in the city if you'd prefer that to going to your hotel. So you can ask to get off with another group or just at Hallgrimskirkja if you don't have stuff you need to drop off. That let us do some more city walking and get to dinner easier.

4 stars as couldn’t match up to the previous day’s spectacular Golden Circle tour & the weather was not at its best..rain & wind on & off for most of the day.
Pick up & drop off were timed to perfection, small tour mini bus was warm & comfortable.
Siggi, our native Icelandic driver/guide, was great …informative & knowledgable on the history & folklore of his country & the places we visited.
Both Waterfalls & the Black sand beach (with its giant cave) were worth seeing but we thought the receding Glacier, which hits home on climate change, was the highlight of the tour.
A long day, but even with the rain, worth doing this tour.
As per previous reviews, the cafe/restaurants on these tour stops are very expensive ..so if you are holidaying on a budget, take snacks with you.

I must admit this was not our favourite tour in Iceland.
Not long after being picked up the inside of the bus began to heat up, there are heating vents at floor level along each side of the bus and these were blowing out very hot air, before long the inside of the bus became uncomfortably hot. We asked the driver on a number of occasions to turn the heating down which he said he did, but it made absolutely no difference to the heat coming out of the vents, it soon became clear that the driver didn’t actually know how to adjust the heating on the bus.
He was fiddling with the dials each time there was a request made to reduce the heating and then he did something which resulted in the windscreen misting up very badly, and still the heat was blasting out of the vents! At this point, not only was it uncomfortable for the passengers due to the heat, but we were all alarmed because the windscreen was so misted that the driver couldn’t see properly where he was going!!
Eventually, one of the other passengers moved to the front of the bus and worked out how the heating system actually worked, reducing the temperature to a comfortable level and demisting the windscreen.
I can’t emphasise enough how uncomfortable this was, all of the passengers had removed layers due to the heat, I had removed my jacket and pullover (just wearing a T-Shirt) and the sweat was running down my back, my wife was beginning to feel ill due to the heat. We were a full 90 minutes into the tour before this was sorted, I was at the stage where I was about to leave the tour and insist that the tour operator (Your Day Tours) sent a vehicle to return us to Reykjavik.
I have to say that it is ridiculous that the driver didn’t familiarise himself with the vehicle before leaving that morning, and also that the tour company actually allowed him to drive a vehicle that he was unfamiliar with.
Unfortunately, the rest of the day did not improve greatly as the weather took a turn for the worse and by the time we reached the Glacier and then the Black Beach it was blowing an absolute gale. (and I mean difficult to walk in gale, it was really blowing hard!!!). The tour operator obviously cannot be held responsible for the weather, I only mention it to point out that when the weather is bad, it does have an adverse impact on the experience.
The last stop on the tour was the village of Vik and I must admit I can’t really see any reason for this even being part of the tour, all we did was visit a shopping centre which had a couple of eating places, an overpriced shop and a supermarket – we could have done that in Reykjavik!! Maybe there were other attraction there that the driver decided to skip due the weather but if there was, the he didn’t mention them.
I’m sure maybe on another day this could have been a great tour as many other reviewers have alluded to but sadly, for us, it was not good.

Our southern beach tour with Sigurdur was a delightful experience, although we encountered some minor hiccups. Unfortunately, Sigurdur faced challenges with his microphone, choosing random music and intermittent humming and breathing instead of the carefully curated Viking warrior or Icelandic artist tunes selected by other tour operators.
His speaking style made following his storytelling a bit challenging, especially when compared to the seamless narration of other guides. While familiarity with certain stories from previous tours helped, it underscored the need for improvement in his mic operation and storytelling technique.
One noticeable aspect was the cleanliness of the van's windows, which, unfortunately, weren't clean. For a tour that involves picturesque landscapes, it's crucial to have clear windows for passengers to take photos. Other tour operators informed us that they wash their vans after every use to ensure visibility. I cannot confirm if this was the case here, but the dirt on the windows made it impossible to take pictures from inside the van, which was disappointing.
Nevertheless, Sigurdur remained a pleasant guide, and I still recommend the tour for its stunning scenery and well-timed itinerary. Despite some shyness compared to other guides, Sigurdur provided ample time for breaks and exploration, continuously trying to share engaging stories and contributing to an overall positive experience.

Pick up at the hotel was right on time which was a great start. Our guide/driver, Sveinbjorn was excellent; he was informative, tolerant of the different speeds and attitudes our group moved at, and a very competent driver. All the sites visited were well worth it and we were given sufficient time at each site to fully enjoy the uniqueness of each site without feeling rushed. Safety and knowledge was emphasized throughout, all delivered with a fun sense of humor. Recommend avoiding the back seats of the mini-bus if you're tall. Very good value for the price.

I absolutely loved seeing all of these incredible sights, but our tour guide, Wendy, was disappointing. I will note that the bus was Arctic Adventures, not Your Day Tours, so I’m not sure which company she is with. She seemed rather annoyed to be there and was not welcoming at all. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the bus excited or engaged for the tour so everyone remained very quiet during the long periods of driving. She said she was open to questions, but when I asked one, she just said “I don’t know” and messed with her iPad and when another person asked, she acted like the question was ridiculous. No one else even bothered. The experience would have been much richer with a more engaging and warm tour guide. I had a wonderful tour guide for the Golden Circle, so I had high expectations and was disappointed.
The sights were gorgeous, nonetheless. The waterfalls, glacier, and black sand beaches were incredible to see and I highly recommend getting to the South Coast when you’re in Iceland. However, this is a LONG day with lots of driving all the way to Vík. When I visit again, I’ll do 2-3 days along the whole South Coast. Doing it in just several hours is exhausting and I felt very rushed at most stops. We spent almost half the day on the bus driving to and from stops. Something to consider.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed the stunning sights along the South Coast, including the waterfalls, glacier, and black sand beaches, but we are deeply sorry to hear that other aspects of the tour fell short of your expectations.
Regarding your experience with the guide, we sincerely apologize if their demeanor made the tour less engaging. A guide’s enthusiasm and ability to create a welcoming atmosphere are crucial to enhancing a tour, especially on a day involving long travel times. Your description of the guide seeming annoyed and unapproachable is concerning, and we will review this feedback with our team to ensure it is addressed appropriately. A guide’s role is not only to provide information but also to foster an environment where guests feel comfortable and encouraged to ask questions. We deeply regret that this was not your experience on this occasion.
As for the feedback about the guide's affiliation, the bus was marked with the Arctic Adventures logo as they are part of our parent company. While Your Day Tours operates the South Coast Day Tour, the resources and personnel may overlap with other affiliated companies. We will investigate this specific tour to ensure the guide was adequately trained and representing our company’s values.
We understand your concerns regarding the itinerary and the time spent at each stop. The South Coast is a vast region with many incredible landmarks, and we recognize that fitting these highlights into a single-day tour can feel rushed. We design our tours to showcase as much as possible within the time constraints, but we appreciate your feedback and will review how we can better balance travel time and stop durations. We also encourage guests interested in a more in-depth exploration of the South Coast to consider multi-day tours, which allow for a more relaxed pace and extended visits to these incredible locations.
Thank you for highlighting the beauty of the South Coast and encouraging others to visit this remarkable area. We sincerely hope that despite the challenges you faced, the natural wonders you experienced made your trip memorable. If you would like to provide additional details or discuss your experience further, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at info@yourdaytours.is.
We appreciate your understanding and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Iceland in the future for a more enjoyable experience.

Great tour, Elisa was absolutely brilliant! She made the full day very interesting and found 2 extra stops during our day that made it even more special. Her timing was on point and she was very clear when some “extra power” would be needed to check more areas within one stop so we could plan around it. Her knowledge about the area, the country in general and about local legends, made this one our favourite tour of the week. We are already planning on coming back and exploring some of the spots she recommended, maybe during the summer with more daylight and hopefully less wind and rain! Thank you so much for a great day out, Freya definitely listened when we asked for less rain!

Our guide was Alex and he kept a great pace, provided lots of information and insight during the 10 hour trip. This tour encompasses many of the best sights- huge water falls, glacier, black sand beach, a large volcano, fishing village and amazing scenery along the way. It takes a long time to travel the distances these sites are from the city and from each other. The route is well planned and never boring.
This tour is a wonderful and cost effective way to see many major sites in one day. I highly recommend it.

Although it was cloudy and occasionally rainy, the sights were still magnificent. On the way in the morning, the minibus stopped at a gas station for coffee, light breakfast, and bathroom break. For lunch, the minibus stopped at the restaurant at Reynisfjara; dishes were priced slightly lower compared to those in Reykjavik, but the restaurant was very full at lunchtime with some difficulty finding spots to sit at lunchtime. We were given plenty of time at each location, roughly 30-40 min each. Our guide and driver, Dominika, had many fascinating tidbits to tell during the drive, and we learned a lot of Icelandic trivia from her! Should note that she was a very safe driver. Overall would highly recommend this trip, 10/10.

Call or email the tour company and tell them where you are staying. They will let you know the closest pickup… they are very good with this.

What do you do if your hotel isn’t listed as a pickup? We are staying at The Swan House.

We looked for the hotel listed that was nearest to our hotel and then found the bus stop that was listed for it. It was super easy. Just make sure that you are at the stop a bit before your listed time. We found that busses were very punctual.

Does this tour allow you to walk on the glacier? We are staying 30 min north of Reykjvik. where is the best location for a pickup? We have10 in our group.
Written 30 April 2023
walking on the glacier requires specific equipment and a relevant tour guide. There are tours designed to encompass this but this tour was not including that.

Thermal layers under winter clothes/coat. Good snow/rain proof boots, with sheepskin insoles if possible. We went in November the very start of Iceland’s winter, with only one day of light snow (on our Golden circle tour) & we needed all of our thermals, from hat, gloves, long sleeved vests, to thick thermal socks. Tip - invest in a snood that will cover neck & bottom half of face as the icy wind can be biting! Native Icelanders advised Jan & Feb are coldest months.
