- 478seanb0 contributionsGreat Day Trip to See Nature Outside of HelsinkiThis was a great day trip outside of the city. The pickup and dropoff was easy. It was quite cold (as you would expect in January) but it ended up being very nice despite that (layer up!). The national park was beautiful and the hot salmon soup cooked over a fire was perfect!Written 16 January 2025
- gillg3560 contributionsExcellent trip to refresh the soulDid this trip today . What can I say it totally lived up to all my expectations. Taigo tours were excellent and really took care of us throughout the whole trip , providing snow boots ( even though I had my own they advised they weren’t high enough ) the snow was deep , socks and a hiking stick . Great experience walking through the beautiful forest where they shared their knowledge of the local flora and fauna. We walked to a picnic site where they shared a beautifully prepared lunch of salmon soup and rye bread around a lovely toasty fire and a special cake . We hiked back via the frozen lake . The stillness and quietness of the forest was amazing. Get yourselves out of Helsinki and experience this amazing trip . Truly unforgettable experience and one I will remember for a long time . Great hosts , great day what more can I sayWritten 10 January 2025

Jeff is a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide who gave us a great introduction into the art of mushroom hunting. We had a lot of fun and found plenty of chanterelles and some other mushrooms with which Jeff prepared a tasty lunch. There were even mushrooms left that we could bring home for an omlette on the next day :)Written 12 October 2024

This was my favourite day on my trip to Helsinki and surrounding area. It was incredibly relaxing to hike in the forest, then experience the sauna and lake culture (sit in the sauna, dip in the lake, repeat). The lunch was tasty, and our guide was very friendly, fluent in English, and patient when I asked him loads of questions about Finnish nature and culture. The other guests were also very friendly and it was a great day out.

This amazing experience was everything we could have wish for! :) We were group of 4 participants. Jeff, our guide, is very nice, caring and well prepared. He explained everything and also brought special clothes (boots, slippers, etc) in case of need. Even though he is canadian, he lives many years in Finland and knows a lot about it. The ride to the national park in minivan is very comfy. The hike was easy and very pleasant. Took about and hour to the lunch spot near the lake, on well handled path. We also did some mushroom foraging and bird watching on the way. Jeff chopped the wood and cooked a nice lunch for us on the grilling spot. The sauna experience was amazing too. There are 3 outside smoke (mix) saunas with various temperatures. The hottest one had 134 degrees. I highly recommend to take a dip in the cold lake after the sauna and relax on the bench. One could feel a bit dizzy but it passes in couple minutes and wellbeing feeling that comes is priceless. There is a hairdryer in the changing room. It was a perfect day! We had a really great time and I'd recommend this experience to anyone who wants to relax and get away from the city hassle in a very comfortable way! Thank you Jeff and Kia and all the best!

We had a great tour with Jeff. Luckily we ended up having a private tour and it was great to hear from Jeff all about the National Park we went to given how knowledgeable he was in regards to the nature right down to the bird life, types of berries that grow (tasting included) as well as mushrooms! The walk around the Forrest was lovely & we enjoyed the Campfire lunch that Jeff cooked up overlooking the frozen lake. A highlight was the Finnish Smoked Sauna as well as cold water plunge. We could see the passion that Jeff has for what he does and it was lovely to hear about how he and his partner Kiia have built their business.
We would certainly recommend taking this tour as part of the Finnish experience when staying in Helsinki.

The grey, rainy day did not dampen the adventurous spirit of our group of eight from four different continents. Sturdy raincoats were available for all. Our hike through the forest identifying and gathering mushrooms was both delightful and informative. Jeff was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and all the various mushrooms. Jeff actually cooked the mushrooms we gathered along with a hearty lunch. The sun broke through as we hiked back for the smoke sauna. The sauna was outrageously hot and the lake plunge outrageously cold but to our surprise absolutely exhilarating! We are in our 70’s and found the "National Park Hike & Finnish Smoke Sauna Experience with Campfire Lunch" extraordinary! Thank you Jeff and Kiia, Carpe Diem!

Jeff picked us up with his van in Helsinki and drove us to Sipoonkorpi National Park. It's a beautiful, serene place with very tall trees, some rocky cliffs and a lake just perfect for a dive. Jeff is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who told us all about Finnish life around the woods, and was eager to let us experience as much of it as possible. We hiked through the forest, picking wild blueberries and mushrooms on the way, before reaching the fireplace. Here, Jeff prepared a nice fresh lunch for our group while we were free to explore a bit on our own. The lake has a couple of smoke saunas nearby, and going in there for a while before taking a dive into the lake is truly a peak Finnish experience. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature or wants to take a break from the city!

We’re in the Nordic countries from Australia touring regions and cities. Helsinki was a little tricky in our schedule but we wanted to get out of the city and experience some of the forests because they are so important to Finland.
Fortunately our travel agent hooked us up with Jeff and Taiga Times. We had no idea what to expect but tonight we are sitting back in our hotel room in Helsinki and both saying..’what a great day!’.
Our group was small and personal, we never lost contact with the information being passed at any point. Jeff’s extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the forest and what it contains.
The lunch BBQ was something else, simple fair, maybe situational, but excellent. Jeff even added fresh porcini mushrooms to lunch that we’d collected on the trail..that’s hard to top.
A stop at the traditional wood heated spa with inter dispersed dips in the 11 degree lake just to remind you you’re alive to finish the day and a short drive back to Helsinki!
Just do it…get out of the city for the day..enjoy Finland. Thanks Jeff.🇦🇺

A guided hike through Sipoonkorpi National Park with Tiaga Times Tours. Alex was a Fantastic guide. He educated us on the Flora, cooked us a traditional Finnish lunch with the wood and fire pits provided by the park and educated us on how to experience proper Finnish Smoke Saunas. My favorite times were running and jumping into the adjacent lake in between my Smoke sauna visits and eating the wild blueberries and raspberries.

Fantastic day out in the beautiful Sipoonkorpi National Park. We were picked up by the very friendly and knowledgeable Jeff and after a short journey we were at the park.
We hiked total of 6km with a spot of lunch en route. Lunch was yum and a beautiful spot.
The perfect ending was experiencing the smoke sauna followed by swimming in the lake - we had a brilliant time and would recommend this trip to everyone. Thanks Jeff for your guiding skills - really enjoyed it.

Such a great day. We were looked after so well by our guide who had a wealth of knowledge on the area. The walk/hike was fairly easy but really enjoyable. The campfire lunch was tasty and eaten at a beautiful spot overlooking the lake and forest. Finally, the much-anticipated sauna and dip in the partially frozen lake was surprisingly good and we went between the two about 3 or 4 times! All up a fantastic day out -highly recommended

We had a wonderful day with Jeff in the Sipoonkorpi National Park. It began with a 30 minute drive in a comfortable car followed by a gentle 3km walk. Along the way Jeff pointed out various plants including wild strawberries and blueberries which we picked and tasted plus various types of mushrooms. He was extremely informative about the area and answered any question asked of him.
Jeff cooked us a delicious lunch of sausage and veges followed by cake.
The second half of the day was spent in the smoke sauna with dips in the lake.
It was a brilliant day and I had the best sleep that night.
I’d highly recommend this trip.
