From the moment Sara, the passionate owner of Oporto & Douro Moments, met us at our hotel, our day was filled with wonderful surprises and interesting cultural insights. Despite our mix-up with the start time (we were an hour late), Sara greeted us with patience and a warm smile, ready to take us on for the day. We began with a stroll through Porto's charming local shops, where Sara shared fascinating stories of the city's commitment to historic preservation. Learning about the protected shops passed down through generations was a testament to Porto's dedication to its heritage. The city's tagline, "Porto.", truly resonates after witnessing its rich culture and proud history. The highlights of our tour were many, but visiting the Bank of Materials, Igreja dos Carmelitas, Jardim da Cordoaria, and Clerigos Church and Tower offered unique glimpses into Porto's architectural beauty and its community's efforts in preserving it. The olive oil and wine tasting at Fábrica do Azeite, port tasting at Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto, and the delightful jam and chocolate tasting at meia.dúzia were exquisite, showcasing the best of Porto's local dining treats. Our visit to the bustling Mercado do Bolhão was a culinary revelation. Trying sardines, wine, salted cod, and even a sea urchin was an experience like no other. The Pasteis-de-Nada tarts were a sweet treat we couldn't get enough of. Our meal at Venham Mais 5, featuring steak and cheese sandwiches and the spicy francesinha sandwich, was the perfect culmination of Porto's culinary offerings. Saying goodbye to Sara as we crossed over to Gaia was bittersweet. Her expert guidance, deep love for and knowledge of Porto, and personal touches (literally saw the hospital when she was born) throughout the day made us feel not just like tourists, but like friends being shown the heart and soul of her city. To anyone wishing to discover the real Porto, away from the well-trodden tourist paths, I cannot recommend Oporto & Douro Moments enough. Sara's knowledge, hospitality, and the genuine experiences offered are what make this tour truly five stars. Thank you, Sara, for an unforgettable day in Porto. She provided dinner recommendations at restaurants that only locals go to and shops from local artisans. The most fantastic way to get to know the wonderful city of Porto is by starting the first morning with a guided tour by Sara of Oporto & Douro Moments. Sara is knowledgeable, fun and kind. She knows Porto inside and out, and she offers insights, visits, and tips that you cannot possibly find or do from reading a guidebook or an online article, or from doing a self-guided walking tour. She tailored her tour to us as travelers, focusing on our interests and our needs. We seriously could not have had a better experience or felt more fulfilled at the conclusion of a city tour. Sara is amazing. Her Oporto & Douro Moments touring business is exceptional. Everyone should hope that Sara or a member of her team is available to tour them upon arrival in Porto.

João was on time and courteous, knowledgeable with regard to some of the history of Portugal and the various areas we passed through on our transfer. We had a stop scheduled in Coimbra between our pickup and Lisboa, however nothing was planned for our stop which was disappointing. Clearly there was a miscommunication as to what a “stop” entailed as we thought there would be some tour or at least a lunch restaurant selected. Be sure to clarify! (I didn’t.) João was very helpful in providing some suggestions while we just wandered and explored the city.

Sarah was an incredible tour guide and anticipated exactly what we would like to see. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous too. She arranged tours, drivers, transfers, cooking classes, coffee breaks, and learned our likes and dislikes quickly. She quickly picked up that I never like to pass up a bathroom break so started pointing them out for me ha ha. Highly recommend this tour company. Her son does the Douro Vally tours, she does the Porto walking tours, and her husband man’s the car she doesn’t have to worry about parking. She also took us to Braga and Aveiro and her son took on wine tours.

Absolute highlight of our Portugal trip. João was fantastic. He was waiting for us at our hotel, had a spotless comfortable vehicle, took us to the most special vineyards and towns, brought us to the best meal, and was a wealth of knowledge about Portugal, port, and wine. He really cared for our comfort on a hot day, too. When someone loves their country as much as he does, it is infectious. Worth every penny. If I return to Porto I’ll reach out to this company to ask them to take me on another tour.

Great day spent with our tour guide. Learned so much about the wine industry in the Douro valley….Porto. What made it special was the” offf the beaten track” villages and vineyards that we stopped at! Highly recommend this tour .

What a great day seeing the "off the beaten path" parts of the Duoro Valley. We loved that this group focuses on highlighting the smaller, Portugese-owned wineries instead of the bigger, British conglomerates that I have largely taken over the Valley. João (John for us Americans) arrived at our hotel early and was waiting for us when we got to the lobby, eager to begin our full-day private tour. While there were only two of us, we enjoyed the luxury of a Mercedes van, which was a very comfortable ride for all day touring. As we drove the ~90 minutes to the Valley from Porto, João answered all of our questions about Portugese culture and life. As we got into the Valley, our real education began as we heard all about the unique wine culture of Portugal. Our tour involved tours and tastings at two distinctly different vineyards; a coffee stop; a stop at a scenic viewpoint; and lunch. Everything was arranged for us throughout the 9-hour tour and João was a very knowledgeable host who graciously shared his deep knowledge all day long. I highly recommend supporting this company - it's a small, family-owned and operated group that goes the extra mile... including customizing tours to cater to your interests. Top notch!

Sara was a wonderful host who made our morning in Porto very memorable even in spite of the rain. We had a limited amount of time in Porto and we felt like the walking tour experience with Sara allowed us to maximize the time we had and see a lot of the city with local insight and guidance. It was our first time in Portugal and she made sure that we got both the essentials as well as some unexpected gems during our walk.

We spent three absolutely wonderful days with Sara. The first was our scheduled walking tour, which was fascinating. Sara brought Porto to life for us, telling about the history and the architecture and providing recommendations for shopping and eating (post tour), as well as steering us clear of some other choices we’d made, and was delightful to be around. The next two days were unscheduled, but Sara rescued us when another tour company let us down miserably. She drove to Guimarães and took over not just one tour, but also took us to Coimbra and Aveiro the following day, creating wonderful experiences each day, adding her knowledge to the official guide at Braga and in Coimbra to make sure we didn’t miss out on any interesting insights.
