The city tour led by Silvia was done very well. We enjoyed her passion of the region and knowledge of the history. Enjoyed the artwork at the Train Station and we appreciated the rich history about Porto and Portugal at the Cathedral. Seeing the nuances around the city were impressive and many references to Harry Potter and the inspiration to JK Rowling when she visited Porto. The winery part of the tour was also very enjoyable and Diogo (our guide there) also did a great job of explaining and answering questions. Finally, we had the Porto River boat tour. We were able to schedule that after lunch, which was nice. We enjoyed the bridges and being on the river. The only drawback was that the narration was pre-recorded and that some of the recordings were out of sync at the beginning when we got to certain bridges/sites. But overall enjoyed the trip!

Silvia provided an excellent and thorough history to the city of Porto, which was my favorite part of the tour. The cathedral was really beautiful, the train station interesting, and the port tasting delicious, but Silvia’s deep knowledge made the tour so interesting.

I wasn’t aware there would be so much walking at the start of the tour, nor were we aware that the river bridge tour was just a voucher for us to book and take that portion of the tour on our own time.

10/10 for personality and content
6/10 for clarity of activities

The tour was great, Miguel was an awesome tour guide. Unfortunately, it was a solo tour guide as, due to the global situation, nobody else booked the english tour for that day other than me, but the agency still didn't cancel and allowed me to have an awesome truly private tour, just me. My guide was so knowledgeable that I got to learn much more than I was expecting from that tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone having a short visit in Porto, or even better, the full day tour.

The tour did not include admission to the Porto cathedral. Also, the driver said it was "too busy" to park at two of the locations so we had to walk there rather than being driven there by the advertised "air conditioned vehicle". We were also told the cruise was a a drop-off at the end at the river cruise location with a ticket. No transport was provided back to the start of the tour. Our guide was new - he told us this was the first time - so much of the time was spent in driving past locations without any explanation of the sites.

The guide Manuel, was great and really knowledgeable, but we didn't seem to cover much ground. We spent most of our time at the Cathedral and train station. We would have expected more of a guided tour of the city. The port house was also really good.

TripAdvisor described this tour as pick-up from our hotel, tour of the city center, cruise on the Douro river, port wine cellar tour and drop-off at our hotel. However, when we were met by our tour guide, he informed us that he would be giving us a voucher for the cruise, and that they would not drop us off at our hotel at the end of the tour. We would have to arrange for our own transportation. If we wanted to be dropped off at our hotel, we would have to give up the cruise portion of the tour. We decided to give up the cruise portion. Cityrama (who did not operate this tour, Living Tours did) lied to TripAdvisor and told them that we had received the tour described, but we didn't. TripAdvisor refused to give us a refund or pay us any compensation for the missed cruise.

Went in March. It was rainy, cold. Manuel was our tour guide as I joined two people from Brazil and three people from the US. Hotel pick up was timely. We rode around for a while seeing some administrative buildings and churches. The lookout from one church was quite picturesque. In the background, a trumpeter, street performer, was doing his thing. Manuel pointed out that when there are crowds, this trumpeter will single out local pick pockets thus ruining their "hands-on" approach. We crossed a bridge and headed to a local winery, Pocas(pronounced Poe sahsh). This business is one of the few remaining Portuguese-owned establishments. We saw barrels of wine, some small, some HUGE. There were two barrels of vintage 1950. As I don't drink, an exception was made. A sweet wine which was a favorite of the clergy was chosen. The taste of LAGRIMA was "heavenly". The port cellar was a very interesting tour. It is my understanding that the Hop-on/Hop-off bus stops here.

Okay first I am not sure who is to blame here....I booked this trip through Trip Advisor but got confirmation from Viator. When I turned up at the tour office the ladies there were great. However the tour was nothing like I had booked. First I thought I had booked the morning tour...then I received a call to tell me the tour was in the afternoon. No spaces in the morning! Then it was explained in the office that the tour was 4 hours and then you got a ticket for the boat! I don't understand why the tour takes 4 hours... everyone was extremely helpful and we actually managed to do the boat tour first. However, the boat was packed and we could only sit inside - the view was limited at best.....then it was a canned audio package - not worth it! Our tour guide was excellent but then the tour finished at a Port tasting - local port cellar, never heard of it. The tour was very good, but very quick. If I hadn't done a tasting before I wouldn't have known what was going on. Overall we had a good time but it was VERY expensive for what we got. Would not recommend. Sorry!

The tour guide Gonsalo was amazing and spoke very well english. He was very knowledgeable in telling stories and answering the questions that we have. He did a good job in explaining the history.

The negative comments that I have to mention is the fact that it was half a day tour (4hr) and a small group tour (we were in total 6 people) and since we didnt have alot of time to see everything ( we went to Porto for 1 day only) the tour was given in both english and spanish (2 spanish people out of 6). Since its only half a day it took so long for the tour guide to explain everything in 2 languages. The small private tour should be in 1 language only due to the time that we have and this is the fault of the tour company to allow this. I felt bad for the tour guide to accomodate this.

I really felt rushed on this tour since it wasnt even 4 hours long (supposed to finish at 6:30pm and we got off the minivan at 5:50pm). Two people on the tour had to be dropped off at the train station for 5:40pm since they had to catch their train and the tour guide had strict guidelines to accomodate them. Strict guidelines ? Its their fault for even taking a train for 6:40pm when the tour should finish at 6:30pm. Im on this tour to be able to take time and enjoy the tour and not to feel rushed. This tour wasnt worth it.

In all, great tour guide but bad management of the tour. They should put boundaries and respect the times (4hr tour should be a 4hr tour and english tour should only be in english).

This is a Porto City tours offered by LivingTours.com, which I believe is a local company affiliated with Grey Lines.

Our guide was the very friendly and pleasant Sofia. Sofia shared information about Porto in a very pleasant and lively format throughout our tour.

The day started with a hotel pickup. We proceeded to a visit to the Porto Cathedral for a look around the Cathedral and a little bit of history. We then walked down to the São Bento train station, which is a historic site in the heart of downtown (the main intercity train station is a few kilometres away at Campanha). This station is of interest in particular because of its extensive series of tiled panels (azulejos). There are in fact two sets, one in the blue and white style that is familiar throughout Portugal, and another in a style that I assume is based more on the Arabic styles that are also influential throughout the country.

Sofia then introduced us to various facets of the downtown area, including the bookstore that was an inspiration for the author of the Harry Potter series when she was living and working in Porto.

We then crossed the river to Gaia, which is actually a separate municipality. This is an area where many companies that distribute port wines maintain their warehouses and storage facilities. We visit the Cockburns port facilities. Here port is stored for the aging process.

We received an excellent and informative explanation of the whole process from a Cockburns employee, and learned about the differences between port stored in vats, barrels, and bottles. Who knew???

We finished with a set of tastings and an opportunity to buy port to go, and several of our group did just that.

By this time it was close to one p.m., and Sofia dropped a number of us off to take the harbour cruise, which leaves from the Porto side of the harbour.

We just missed the 1 p.m. sailing, and so came back for the 2 p.m. This was a pleasant tour of just about one hour, and we got to pass under all six of the bridges that cross the Douro river in the Porto area.

So, I would recommend this tour, it was a nice length and did not take up the whole day. Sofia was a very agreeable and helpful guide, and it was a truly enjoyable way to spend part of a day. To top it off, I managed to forget my bag on the tour bus and managed to retrieve it later at the tour company office! So a good day all round.
