Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- alexandranB5945KK0 contributionsVery recommendable! We did this tour from Porto. It went really well. Our guide name was Joao Mota and the driver's name was Manuel. They were very punctual. The mini bus is very comfortable. The guide was very knowledgeable. It was a great experience. Both cities are beautiful and well worth the trip. I highly recommend Living Tours! From this company we also had a walking tour in Porto. It was amazing! The lady (which was from Romania) was very knowledgeable and passionate about Portugal history. We visited some highlights of the city. It was very interesting. I recommend this tour too!Written 13 February 2025

- M1807BGsteves0 contributionsDouro Valley Day TripOur guide Ana was wonderful. We enjoyed the ride from Porto and learning about the history of Porto and the Douro Valley. Her knowledge of the areas and warmth made it an unforgettable experience. We took a one hour boat ride on the Douro River, which was very relaxing and a great picture taking opportunity.. We loved the choice of two different types of wineries; one a larger winery and the second one a family owned winery for generations. At the manor of the second one, we were served a traditional Portuguese lunch that was absolutely delicious. We learned a lot about Port wine making and the wine was incredible. The day was extra special because of Ana’s delightful personality and I wouldn’t hesitate to book this tour!!Written 13 February 2025

I went alone and took good care of all of you, and the staff was kind to guide you every time you came to eat, and I gave you an infinite amount of wine, so you drank a bottle of wine and fell asleep... I went to the bus station in Santiago, but I hope to go one day on foot..^^*
Lunch can be included and if you want seafood, you can go eat it.
There is a market in Santiago, like the mayor, and you can go and give me 2 euros and eat it right away. You can eat it right away. It tastes so delicious and big and very delicious that you can eat it twice.

If you don't have time, but you want to go from Portugal to the three Christian holy places, I recommend it.
Participation on January 2, 2025.
At 0700 we meet at the tour company in front of São Bento station and depart at 0720 Portuguese time. Besides us Japanese, the participants were from Japan, South Korea, Canada, USA, France, Italy and many others. My guide, Andre, joked about the city on the way to Santiadecompostela. I was relieved to learn how to call the tourers myself in case I strayed into the streets of Santiago de Compostela.
Around 1130 Spanish time, we got off at a parking lot near the city and, guided by André, we traveled to the square in front of the basilica, where of course we were able to see the buildings along the way. Explanation of the cathedral in the square in front of the cathedral. We had booked the Glorious Gate at 1215, so it was just time for us to head towards the Glorious Gate when we finished explaining. We visited the basilica and the surrounding area without even taking time to eat, as there are many things to see, but it was a quick 1430 until the meeting. If you want to see it closely, you might prefer not to eat.
1430 Meet in front of the basilica station, the place where free movement was disbanded, and move to Valenza. It was a walled city, with lots of atmospheric shops, and we filled our bellies with snacks.
Then we moved to Porto. Around 1730 Portuguese time, we arrived at Camellias Bus Terminal, near the first stop of Tram 22. Once inside Porto, André's guide continues with a short guided tour of the city.
We had tickets to 1815 Lelo bookstores, but we had plenty of time on foot.
You might think that going on tour abroad is... but Andre was meticulous and there was nothing to worry about. There was one person in Santiago de Compostela who got together at the wrong place, but we were all able to search desperately and leave.

Visiting Santiago was a very enjoyable day and the lunch was a nice addition. Christian was a great guide and provided a lot of historical information on the bus ride. The time in Santiago felt a bit rushed but it’s also a reasonable distance from Porto so the bus ride itself consumes alot of the time. We had to wait awhile to get access to the inside of the church because there was a Pilgrim Mass celebration when we arrived so time inside the church was limited. It was still however an enjoyable day.

We signed up for the Full-Day Tour to Santiago de Compostela and Valença do Minho from Porto with a guide. This tour was a mess. Our guide (Antonio—who drove very quickly and is prone to slamming on the brakes to avoid speed traps) gave us only a few tidbits on the long drive to Spain (maybe ten minutes total over two hours), and when we arrived at the Cathedral he told us to go explore on our own and meet for lunch. No information, no tour, nothing. He headed off with a young woman (we were never told who she was, she just seemed to be with him and the group). When we gathered for lunch I suggested that my travel companion and I sit across from one another to avoid close exposure to strangers across the table. I was told by the guide that we could not. When I insisted, he simply ignored me and we were forced to sit facing complete strangers without masks across a small table. This tour was billed as taking ‘COVID safe’ precautions, which according to signage throughout Portugal is masks or two meter distance. It was awkward and uncomfortable and we worried about exposure.
After lunch we returned to the bus (masks required in the bus, thankfully) and continued to Valenca. Upon arrival, we got a five minute overview as we drove around looking for a parking place.
Once parked, we were again told to walk around on our own and find the bus in 45 minutes. We had no idea where to go and ended up just eating gelato as we had no time to explore and no clue where to go.
We were then to be ‘returned’ to our hotel, except ‘traffic was bad’ and the driver didn’t want to go around, so we were left several blocks away from where we were picked up with little direction on where to find our hotel.
We visited the Living Tours center in town the next day, as we had a future tour booked and wanted to make sure the guide actually planned to guide us, or if we should cancel. When we told the person behind the counter what happened, she asked who our guide was. When we told her she burst into rapid fire Portuguese to her colleagues, then explained to us that they ‘have had a few problems’ with Antonio lately.
The day (and the 100 plus Euros each) was a waste, we learned nothing about the sites. Given that this is an issue the agency was apparently aware of, we were even more disappointed. Save your money or book with a different company if you want to learn about the cathedral, the pilgrims, or the town of Valenca,
Note: We did end up taking the second tour which we had booked before our arrival, after the tourist office assured us that our tour to Spain and Valenca was not the norm. I will review that one separately; it went well and that guide did a wonderful job (except for the fact they were 30 minutes late to pick us up).

Good afternoon from Living Tours,
Dear Michelle,
Thank you so much for your time in sharing your complete feedback about your experience.
We are very sorry to hear that the tour didn’t go through your expectations.
After considering and investigate your feedback we are ready to answer to your review.
Regarding the driving, we checked our car track and our guide’s driving it respected the safety norms, and it doesn’t show an erratic behavior. About the drop-off, the car track also shows us our van passing in front of the morning meeting point around 6 pm. The information that we have is that the guests requested to be drop-off at 5m walking distance from the meeting point.
Concerning the young woman, at the beginning of the tour, she was introduced as being a member of the company.
Regarding the situation in the restaurant, we do apologize for the uncomfortable situation. We do understand your concerns. In Portugal, the masks and the 2-meter distance are just a recommendation (except public transports and health services). Once more we are very sorry to hear that you were worried about exposure.
About the information provided during the tour by our guide, we can say that he had formation to make an excellent tour. According to 5 stars review of other guests that joined this same tour: “(…) António was very experienced, kind, and correct. He gave us all the information and he joined our walking tour. (…)”
Regarding the information provided in our Tourist Service Office, we want to say that we hadn’t any problems with our guide.
Once more, thank you so much for your complete review.
We always try to learn and improve from our customer’s feedback, and we will have your review under consideration so we can improve daily our services.
Best regards,
Living Tours Team

All places we visited where extremely enjoyable. Tour leader (Jose) was well informative, safe driver, advise spot-on such as restaurants, when best time to visit attractions to avoid long queues. Even managed to find time to introduce us to different types of Portuguese music

A day trip from Porto to Santiago de compestela is a great thing to do, but the tour we were on was not ideal.
We were told departure time is 7.30 & to arrive 5 minutes early.. at 7.40 after standing waiting we are told it’s actually not until 7.45… we don’t end up leaving until 8am because they were waiting for people. This meant we didn’t get to Santiago until 12.20 & those wanting to attend mass could not… organised lunch was at 1pm & took 1 hr … given the church reopens post mass at 1pm this was not good timing.. doing our own thing for lunch would have been better..
And then, an elderly couple got confused about the time zones / meeting points & we waited 20 mins or more for them to return to the bus , reducing our time in Valença.
More time at Santiago would have been better & skipping Valença. The guide was knowledgeable on the area / history etc but this tour doesn’t include a guided tour inside the cathedral.

My husband and I took the day trip to Santiago de Compostela with Living Tours.
Paulo, our guide was extremely knowledgeable, giving us all the details about our stops and facilitating everything from bathroom stops to our lunch. He always made sure we were comfortable and all of our questions were answered! He was an excellent guide!
Manuel our driver was also extremely courteous and made sure we were comfortable, every time we came back to the bus, it was cool so we did not have to wait for it to cool down, he was always there at the designated meeting point on time. His driving was steady and safe making the long ride very enjoyable.
Overall this was a fantastic tour and we would recommend to others without hesitation!

We loved the trip I enjoyed the way Miguel took his time to express everything especially being in the tour bilingual. He is very kind, energetic, and funny! He was very mindful and did amazing! He is also a very good photographer. I liked that there was wifi in the bus and Luno also drove really good and made me feel safe. I love the playlist that was played during the ride. It was very fun with Mario Pinto as our guide. He was hilarious and made alot of jokes which made it light learning about the history of Santiago de Compostela. We had six people in the mini van so it was very comfortable. Mario was an excellent driver which made it safe despite having to travel in the heavy rain.

We will be in Porto on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 2022. I was wondering if you will be offering a Christmas day tour to Santiago de Compostela from Porto. I would appreciate a response so that we can finalize our itinerary.
I also saw a bad review because of tour cancellation due to failure to meet the minimum of four pax/tour. Someone also raved about pushing through with the tour even if they were only two. If we are three, can we be accommodated even if we do not reach the minimum of four?

I did a private tour with the guide by myself. I was back about 1830. You can email them and ask. It's a trip really worthwhile if you have any interest in the Camino and in the history of Santiago. It would be worth changing your dinner reservation time!
