Your day begins with a 9am pickup from selected hotels in Funchal. Be sure to be wearing sports shoes with a good grip, or hiking boots, and to bring a packed lunch as there is nowhere to purchase food along the route. This walk takes you through the beautiful valleys of São Jorge, to some of the lushest places to be found on the island. While walking through Madeira's rain forest, you can see the profusion of herbs and medicinal plants that abound in these valleys while learn about the healing properties of these ancient remedies. There is also an opportunity to walk through or behind a teeming waterfall to one of the most peaceful spots on the 8-hour tour.

Great trip to see Mimosa and local flora and fauna.
The Mimosa Valley walk was well planned. We walked to pickup spot and were soon on our way with our guide and driver in a minibus. There were 5 of us. The walk was better than I expected following a path through domestic vegetable plots with our guide explaining about the varieties of fruits and vegetables growing. We saw lots of Mimosa flowers on the trees. It’s about 5km with a cafe at the end and time for a pit stop before heading back. Great value, with a knowledgeable and considerate guide, multilingual switching from German to English to Portuguese fluidly. Worth every penny!

        Covers ground, but under whelming.
This tour does cover some ground and is a decent introduction to places you may want to go back to, but I did not feel it was the best way for me to spend the day. It is a lot of van time and there are some interesting stops, but for me, more of an outdoor lover, it was not a great. There were others on the trip that where older and perhaps less energetic and they seemed to enjoy it. It does provide a great way to see the scenery around the Eastern island.

You won't break a sweat, but it is a great walk! Highly recommend.
This is a great walk. The route is designed to start high and ends at a lower elevation. This walk is called moderate. It does include some sections of steps, but it is not really a moderate hike. It is heavily used and mostly on rock paths. The waterfalls are fantastic and there is plenty of time to view the sites. The pace is leisurely and allows for picture taking. This is really a walk, not so much a hike, but it covers beautiful grounds and was a great day. My guide, Lillyanne or Leeanne???, was fantastic. I am sorry I do not remember her name. She is a naturalist, knew the history, the plants, was patient, conversational, really fantastic. If you have a chance to learn from her, I recommend it.

        Enjoyable tour.
The tour was great & Bruno was fun & informative. What would make it 5*? Probably hard to say. Some of the latter stops seemed a bit pointless - a church & a view. However it was the Best of the West so we needed to stop. A good tour.

Our driver today in a small passenger van was Bruno. He picked us up and dropped us off right outside the gate to our hotel. We went to 3 locations all of which were beautiful.

Fantastic trip - great value for money
We were collected from our hotel at 8.45 in the morning and our driver was very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. He always checked we were comfortable and his ongoing commentary all through the day was fantastic. After a quick trip through Camacho we went to one of the highest points in Madeira, Pico Ariero(don’t forget a coat/jumper!) The trip down to the coast was breathtaking, especially along the ‘fruit road’ where every kind of fruit can be seen growing by the road. Some lovely seaside resorts and rum factory visited towards the end of the trip. Would have loved to have spent more time in Porto Cruz near the rum factory and Machico on the beach than Santana which has very little to see other than the traditional houses. A great value trip and would highly recommend. You get a great feel for the history of the island and the people of Madeira. We paid €35 each and only returned to our hotel adter 5pm so a full day trip.

Good value and efficient way to see the best views
A fabulous full day tour. Approximately 9 am to 5pm in a small group with an excellent guide/ driver. We learnt and saw so much with just the right amount of time at each place. We were blessed with good weather so the view points were spectacular. We also loved the traditional poncha house for refreshments and comfort stop plus the traditional houses of Santana. Our driver recommended the best restaurant that was reasonably priced and served snacks and full lunches. My favourite day of our holiday so far.

great way to see so much
Great communication from Viator and Lido tours. Pick up was exactly on time. Just 17 people in our group. Marco was our guide and very funny and knowledgeable. Was able to stress the importance of everyone staying on time and there were no late tourists returning from viewpoints. We saw so much and was definetly worth the money. A full day of fun.

Great walk for beginners. No special skills needed.
Great walking tour, despite the shower rain. Thanks to Ruby we had a great walk. Lido Tours offers a great way to explore the island when you are cruising. They pick you up at the harbour. Communication was excellent. Driver is a save driver. Pricing is reasonable. Thank you again Ruby, see you maybe in december!

        Excellent tour.
I went on the Western Madeira tour on 14 January 2025. The driver was excellent, very informative and there was plenty of time to see each place we stopped at. Lots of photo opportunities. This was my second Lido Tour and I will definitely book another one when I return to Madeira.

        East of island tour
Wonderful trip around the east of Madeira, lots of stops to see scenery. Stopped at Santana for lunch. Driver was also tour guide, very informative & friendly. Trip was very good value at 30 odd euros each for a 8 hour tour. I would highly recommend this trip.

        Great experience, any time again!
Persuaded by all the positive reviews, I decided to book 4 hikes (Ponta de São Laurenço, Larano, Rabaçal, Madeira Peaks) and 2 bus tours (Best of the West, Nun's Valley) with Lido Tours - and it was the best decision! I had Sara(h) as tourguide for all the hikes, a very pleasant, knowledgeable and charming person, not only on a professional but also on a personal level. She took good care of the group on each of the hikes and made sure that we have an enjoyable experience, while providing lots of useful information and honest recommendations (fluently in different languages!). The hikes have been breathtaking, you should definitely not miss the Larano and São Laurenço hike, they have been my absolute favourites. I also liked that the busses have been very clean and were driven by an excellent busdriver and the pick-ups were each time reliable and punctual. The Madeira Peaks hike was cancelled due to the remaining damage of the wild fires last year and I was offered alterative hikes for that day and when declining the offers I immediately got a refund. The bus tours have also been nice to see more of the island, with very knowledable and entertaining guides (Bruno/Marco). Personally, I preferred the hikes but just because they were more active/nature-related and less touristic, but I can recommend such a "more relaxing" tour between the hiking. Overall, very professional tour provider. I will recommend Lido Tours to my family/friends and will try some of the other hikes during my next stay on Madeira!

This is a lovely, relaxing walk - easy terrain and beautiful forests and views. We loved having our picnic at the spring. The guide was informative and friendly. The communication was good and pick up all went smoothly. We did several other trips with Lido tours too and I would recommend them - they certainly helped us make the most of our time in Madeira.

It started as a rainy day but once we have reached the destination for our walk the sun came out and we had a beautiful day and walk with the perfect mountain guide Rubinha.
She shared her Knowledge of flora, fauna and history in a nice and entertaining way.

Always remember: those guides Share the whole day with you and take care of everything. Please don‘t be too shy to give them at least a little tip at the end ❤️

Excellent timing - no delays in pickup. Guides very helpful, providing a lot information, ready to answer any question.
We made 2 tours and both were switched to other destination than initial due to weather. We would appreciate if such information was provided in advance. That would give opportunity to choose other activity instead.

We had a wonderful trip with Charlotte. A perfect day. Even if the weather wasn't great. Even with a little rain it was great.
The tour starts and ends in a small café (no obligation to buy anything).
Charlotte speaks French, English and a little German and Spanish.

Nice easy walk, with pretty views. Our guide Charlotte was great, highly recommended. Turns out I'd left my cash at the hotel, which was an error since it starts and finishes at a nice wee cafe bar.

I had pleasure to participate in 4 walking tours with Lido. Firstly I love the possibility for online booking and information about free seats. All information I get before the tours were clear. Bus was always on time. All the guides were very caring and friendly. They told a lot of interesting facts about the island. I felt that they really respect nature and love this island. I can honestly recommend Lido Tours.

I did the'hidden corners' walk today along the lavada in Sao Jorge. Had the lovely Charlotte guiding our group. Her enthusiasm and careful consideration for us all was much appreciated. Such a beautiful hike in the lush forest with beautiful views across the valley. While it's quite a long walk it's very easy going with just a bit of mud to contend with. Such a joy to be out in nature and explore the beautiful Maderia.

What an excellent day spent with Claudio our host. The walk was excellent and the fact that our guide was a biologist was amazing, we learnt all about the history of the island, the plants and trees and he even went above and beyond and took us to see the statue of Christ. The other couple were lovely and there was only the four of us. I would highly recommend this tour but ask for Claudio as he really made our day.

Although graded as easy, it is still worth remembering that there are a few steps to climb at the start of the walk.
The walk is in a beautiful setting and follows the leads. Our guide Sara was very knowledgeable and provided lots of detailed information on the flora and fauna. You walk under a small waterfall and stop for lunch at another waterfall before returning the same way.
There is a cafe and restaraunt at the end of the walk for refreshments and toilets. The bus also stops on the way to the walk at a supermarket where you can use the toilets and buy your lunch.
Walking shoes and a waterproof jacket are recommended.
This was our favourite levada walk of our trip.

Rubina, our guide was excellent; she was knowledgeable and interesting and her cheery nature and good interaction with the group made the trip. Minibus picked us up promptly from our hotel and having then picked up the rest of the people around town we had interesting drive to the of North of the island. Café at start provided toilets. We were disappointed to discover that the walk was out and back along the same route. Scenery was good, but you did have to take care with your footing as there were some big drops from the path. They are putting up more fencing. Pace of walking was easy, but walking in a group does prevent you stopping and taking photos when you want.
