- berthamaeo0 contributionsExcellent private tour experience with Lisbon on WheelsWe enjoyed our private tour to Sintra, Cabo de Roca and Cascais. José, our tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. We did not feel rushed at all. We are doing another private tour with Lisbon on Wheels to Fatima, etc. and looking forward to it! I highly recommend this tour company!Written 18 November 2024
- 953lairdw0 contributionsDay trip from Lisbon to Pena Palace, town of Sintra, Cape Roca and Cascais. Jose was Awesome! Highly recommend!Trip was fantastic! Started off with a coffee and custard tart stop. On the way to Pena, we learned a lot about Portugal history and the background during the tour of Pena greatly enhanced the tour. Stop in the town of Sintra for some shopping etc., then lunch at a truly local restaurant. Best food and wine on the trip, more like a dinner and very well priced, wine, meal, dessert top notch, honestly unbelievable. Went to Cape Roca, western most point of Continental Europe, then to Hell’s mouth (Boca do Inferno) and Cascais for some shopping etc. Jose was fantastic, great conversation, history, courteous, 10/10. Don’t go on your own, take the day trip with Jose!!Written 11 November 2024
- AmyK2930 contributionsThe best Sintra mother/daughter trip!Jose was the most incredible tour guide. We couldn’t ask for a better experience, he took us to beautiful sites that I think we would’ve missed with anyone else! He made our mother/ daughter trip so much fun, his quick wit and sense of humor had us laughing the whole time. And we appreciated the impromptu adventure!Written 7 November 2024
- dmandel1270 contributionsFantastic Private Tour to SintraWhat a great day with our guide, Jose Ribeiro! He was outstanding! My wife and I did all four of the major sites in Sintra - Pena Palace, Moorish Castle, The National Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. Long day but totally worth it. Jose was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. My wife is a designer and she loved the historical design aspects of these sites that Jose detailed for her. He also recommended a great place for lunch. Lisbon on Wheels secured all the tickets and together with Jose, made the day a breeze. What a wonderful and memorable experience. Highly recommended!Written 5 November 2024

- Mariana S0 contributionsBest tour and guide !Our tour guide,Jose was the best guide you could ask for. He was full of so much information and very personable. We loved that it was private and one on one. Jose was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed! The tour it self was amazing. Peña place and moorish castle were probably our favorite. Highly recommend Lisbon on wheels! Maybe you will be lucky enough to get Jose as your guide.Written 3 November 2024
- 172annec0 contributionsSintra and wine tastingJose was our guide for the day . He was very professional and extremely knowable. The your tour of was wonderful and then we do wine tasting and had lunch at a local restaurant . It was a great day.Written 28 October 2024
- 501ivag0 contributionsA great trip but take it in two days!It was a great experience for us, even though: we took the 4-monuments trip ( actually I would put National Palace and the Regaleira for another day, especially for people with walking disabilities ) ; it was raining; two of the people had walking difficulties and we were with a small child..José helped the tired ones rest and drove them around Sintra, gave us information what to see, and had prepared the best itinerary according to our needs. He was really helpful, friendly and told us so much about the history of the places! Thank u, José! P.S. Beware for pickpockets at the way towards the Moorish Castle where there is still no entrance fee. There were a group of them that tried to steal my mothers purse from her backpack. So I think they target slow-moving or elder people.Written 19 October 2024
- turnertravelers0 contributionsHighly recommendDespite a rainy day, we had a great visit. José went above and beyond, customizing our trip to our needs and sharing lots of interesting information about Sintra and Portugal. We would definitely book again!Written 18 October 2024
- ottosA2060OW0 contributionsFour Castles in One Day!Jose picked us up at our hotel early in the morning and off we went to Sintra. We started with the Moorish Castle and climbed up and over the old walls while Jose gave us some of the history. Then he drove us over to the Pena Palace, where he guided us through all the tourists and showed us the best spots and gave us more background history. Jose dropped us off at the National Palace, where we enjoyed a quiet, leisurely walk through the beautiful building. Finally, Jose took us to the Regaleira Castle and recommended that we visit "the well". We made our way down the well from hell to heaven, an unexpected experience. On our way back to Lisbon, Jose drove us through the Belem area of Lisbon and pointed out several highlights. Jose was a wonderful tour guide. We would love to do another tour with him one day. Thank you so much, Jose, for a great day. We were exhausted at the end of the day but have great memories.Written 9 October 2024
- Sarah18870 contributionsSintra trip with Jose’Jose’ picked us up on a damp, rainy morning for our tour of Sintra. The weather did not dampen our spirits, as Jose’ was determined to make our tour a special one. We immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. Jose ’ has an encyclopedic knowledge of his subject matter, but he imparts it in a thoughtful but entertaining manner (lots of personality!). Although we had no views while visiting the iconic monuments, we enjoyed every minute learning about the history of each site. Jose’ took us to a restaurant where “ the locals” eat, and it was the best and most authentic meal we had had on our trip. Jose’ also made sure to show us the special little gems in Sintra-the pastry shop from 1842 ( he picked a few things for us to try! ), a stop into the oldest hotel on the Iberian peninsula, and a pop in to a shop with tiny chocolate pots filled with cherry liquor. Jose’ was recommended to us by a friend, and we are so glad that we were able to spend our day in Sintra with him. 5 stars!Written 2 October 2024
- P9611GPryand0 contributionsTour was great and José was an awesome tour guide!José was an awesome tour guide and made the day so worthwhile and special for us! He was super talkative, showed us a handful of unique spots along the way, and provided recommendations for the rest of our time in Portugal. Would definitely recommend booking this!!Written 30 September 2024
- DCPhotog210 contributionsGreat Visit to Sintra with Jose RibeiroHad a great day in Sintra with Jose. Jose’s a character (in the best sense of the word). He knows all there is to know about European history, and somehow manages to weave it all into a tour of the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace and Old Town Sintra (with a drive through Cascais) that was tremendous fun. In addition to keeping things lively, Jose is very attentive to the needs of his clients during the trip (it did get hot, and there was a lot of climbing). 30 minutes into the tour, you feel like you are with a friend, not a tour guide. Cannot recommend him highly enough.Written 29 September 2024
- cenetaw20240 contributionsA Memorable Day in Sinatra Cascais with JoseJose is amazing! He made our day full of fun, geat information and history! This half day tour of the Pena Palace, Sintra, and Cabo da Roca was an absolutely amazing experience for me and my family. Our tour guide, José, did a fantastic job of taking us on a fun and beautiful adventure while also expanding our educational knowledge of each landmark. If you are looking for a fun event that is easy to navigate with your family, I highly suggest this half day tour with Lisbon on Wheels. We had an extremely enjoyable experience on this tour.
If you do choose to book this tour, I strongly recommend asking for José to be your tour guide. He was extremely accommodating to our needs during the tour, did an excellent job expanding our views of portugal, European history and world culture. José managed to show us tons of things in only a few hours without making me feel rushed once. He is a very personable tour guide with a great work ethic. It was genuinely an awesome experience and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon. Thank you for a memorable end to this incredible trip José!

We had a great morning with Jose who showed us many of the highlights of the area including the darling beach town of Cascais, Pena Palace, a cliffside village, the westernmost point of Europe, and the small town of Sintra. We did not go into Pena Palace, as that would take a few hours, but looking from afar was equally beautiful. Highly recommend if you are short on time and want to get a feel for this area of Portugal. It is beautiful!
