Get picked up from your hotel in Lisbon by a private guide, then depart immediately for Santiago de Compostela. Located in the northwest tip of Spain, the area is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites for Catholics around the world. Traveling by comfortable, private vehicle, arrive in town in the early afternoon.
Upon arrival, head to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela to take part in the special Pilgrim Mass. This mass is held each day to recognize the pilgrims who have traveled along the pilgrimage route, known as the Way of St. James. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this historical ceremony, which has taken place ever since the 9th century. At the beginning of each mass, it is traditional for the home country and starting point of all attending pilgrims to be announced.
Following the mass, learn more about the historic cathedral, which is dedicated to St James, one of Jesus’ apostles. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the building is renowned for its unique architectural character. After visiting the city’s old town, head to the walled town of Valença do Minho, also know for its historical buildings and renaissance architecture. Then hop back in the car and return to Lisbon, where the guide will drop you back off at your hotel.
