Our energetic host Josue picked us up at the Hard Rock Cafe and off we went to Sintra. Josue grew up in Sintra so we really got a local's perspective on this tour. Palacio Nacional da Pena itself was right out of a fairytale - even in Nov, the palace was filled with visitors but the queues were manageable and flowed without incident. Fortunately, Josue knew all of the best spots to take pictures. Several different architectural styles to see all in a single structure. A big palace with surprisingly small rooms and even smaller beds because the royals slept sitting up! They couldn't be caught lying supine like the common folks. After a tour of the palace, we had a snack in the small historical town of Sintra. Then off to Cabo da Roca which is the westernmost part of Europe and reminded us of Northern California's cold, windy and rocky coast, complete with invasive ice plants. Josue stopped along the side of the road next to a cork tree so that we could experience the feel and texture of cork in the wild. We had some time to ourselves in Cascais where it was much warmer - this is the high rent district of Portugal with expensive vacation homes on the coast. We sat down for a grilled sardine salad lunch only to learn that it's the end of the sardine season - not the best time for sardines! Will remember this for next time.

My family and(group of 4) went on the Sintra-Cas Cais tour with Rodrigo as our tour guide. Rodrigo was very knowledgeable and a very well mannered guide, making the tour, not only informative, but very enjoyable. We toured the Pena Palace and were left to tour the town of Sintra afterwards. Rodrigo gave us insider tips on a few of the bakeries and gift shops in the area.
Next, we headed to a local restaurant named Julio’s. Here, we enjoyed our favorite meal of our Portuguese vacation! We had a 3 course meal with a few bottles of red and white wine for only 25€ and I truly recommend having the roasted lamb! After lunch, we quickly visited the western most tip of Portugal and off to the chíc beach town of Cas Cais. Here, Rodrigo explained the allure of Cas Cais and its history of noble residents and visitors. Again, we were left to explore Cas Cais’s beach front for an hour before taking the scenic drive back to Lisbon. This day trip was well worth the costs and a great way to expand on a vacation visit to Lisbon. I highly recommend Rodrigo! He is an asset and a shining star!

We had an incredible day exploring Sintra and Cascais with our tour guide, Patricia. From the moment she picked us up (perfectly on time), she was engaging, informative and entertaining. We laughed, we sang and we explored beautiful sites. She even went above and beyond to keep our mom company when she needed to take some breaks with walking up the stairs. The description of the tour does advise there are some physical limitations so keep them in mind when booking this tour. Lots of stairs at Peña Palace but there is a mini bus up to the palace which was a welcome surprise. Patricia never made us feel rushed and was sure we got to see every bit (and more!) described in this tour. She even made our lunch reservation at a traditional Portuguese restaurant. Lunch is not included in the price, but very reasonable for all that was included with the meal, and it was delicious!! It’s an excellent way to see some very special areas of Portugal. You won’t be disappointed!

I enjoyed my day very much. It’s not far from Lisbon which is a bonus. I recommend that you buy your tickets for whichever palace that you will be visiting as far in advance as you can as it’s timed entry slots and they sell out very quickly. Be aware that the Pena Palace is on a VERY steep gradient. There is a shuttle bus and I would advise anyone who struggles with hills to take it. I didn’t so I don’t know the cost but it’s not much. The old part of Sintra village is all narrow alleyways and is quite quaint. This is where you can get your souvenirs.

My friend and I had an incredible time on our tour to Sintra and Cascais. Our tour guide Liliana was incredibly knowledgeable throughout the tour. She provided us with unique local recommendations that we would never have thought of. Despite tough weather conditions on our tour, she had a positive attitude and always prioritized our safety. We would highly recommend this tour, specifically with Liliana, to family and friends. Thanks Liliana for an amazing tour experience!

While the views and sites were amazing - even in the rain - our guide was not. While knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, his manner was a bit uncomfortable. He was frustrated one guest was 8 minutes late to start the tour; he did not ensure the entire group was together and some got left behind, in the rain, during the tour of Peña Palace; when he was asked to slow down his driving in rainy conditions he was very defensive and irritated for being questioned. He is probably a good guide when everything goes according to plan but his manner in dealing with things that were unexpected was troublesome. He also could have proactively explained a bit more about what to expect at stops. For example, lunch recommendations didn’t open until an hour after we arrived and we were not warned of this.

Hello Monica, It is important that the whole group listens carefully to the guide's directions, so that there are no delays, people getting lost or left behind inside the Pena Palace. The tour guide called us about clients that were late to the meeting point since the rest of the group was already together. He would not leave anyone behind. About the driving, that issue was treated accordingly. We sorry that the tour didn't met your expectations, hopefully that can change in another time. Best regards

We met early in the day for about 15 minutes in advance. The meeting point was easy to reach by local train service. During the wait, it became very crowded. There were several vans to pick up each tour group so make sure you are attentive to the name called in the reservation. We drove about 40 minutes to the first city (Cascais) - it's very charming. If you didn't have time for breakfast before the tour, there are restaurants and bakeries nearby that you can visit. I suggest getting a small snack to go so that you can spend more time enjoying the area or shopping. We spent about 45 minutes in Cascais near the water, saw an old ruin, and visited a couple of stores. From there, you make a couple more coastal stops to stretch your legs. The ocean views are magnificent and with great photo opportunities. We stopped for lunch before reaching Sintra (and so did a lot of other tour groups). The restaurant wait was beyond average and after 45 minutes with only a glass of water served, our family left. The tour guide took us to Sintra where there were plenty of shopping and food opportunities. In retrospect, I would have preferred to visit Sintra and explore rather than stop at the restaurant where we were taken. The visit to the castle itself was quite nice. Getting to the castle is an incline and takes about 15 minutes on foot, or you may ride a van for a small fee. I recommend you take the van up and walk down. No interior photos were allowed in the castle but the architecture and views from atop are phenomenal. Overall, it was a great tour, but the lunch arrangements need improvement.

Tour was in both French and English, which made it hard to ask questions, because the guide was constantly flipping between languages to give his speech twice for each highlight. Too much time spent in shopping districts -- one that wasn't open yet (too early in the day) and one that was overrun with tourists. This "tour" isn't really much more than a narrated van ride where you pay for your own lunch, and get entrance to the castle. The castle is cool, but there have to be better options than this van ride. The lunch spot was tasty but overpriced. We had many, many meals throughout Portugal for less than half the price.

We did this tour with Nuno and had a great time. The settings were obviously great on their own and Nuno really helped us enjoy and make the most of our time out in Sintra and Cascais.

Despite some heavy traffic slowing us down at times, Nuno was able to keep us entertained and interested with his knowledge of pretty much every inch of land between Lisbon and Sintra; the traffic delays didn’t interfere with our experience and Nuno made sure we got adequate time to enjoy every part of our itinerary. He was super knowledgeable of the Sintra grounds in particular and clearly was excited and happy to be there.

We had a nice time with our guide Patricia. This is a great tour to take in some noteworthy sites and areas surrounding Lisbon that we would not have been as adept at coordinating on our own. I liked that we were able to do things on our own time/terms vs. following a guide around. If you’re looking for that continuous time with your guide, however, this tour is not for you.

We were the youngest people on our tour by quite a bit, so we didn’t really connect with our other group members. It was rainy, and the rest of our group didn’t even want to get out at Cabo de Roca (seemed like our guide didn’t either), so we just kept driving which was kind of a bummer, but we didn’t want to argue with the rest of the group.

Hello jaybee137, We completely understand that a sunny day can be a better weather to enjoy a tour and we also have in mind that can be an issue for some people, and for other ones, not at all. It's quite unpredictable. Also, informing you that all of our group tours are mixed (different countries, ages, lifestyles..) which we believe can be very interesting, despite some exceptions. Every decision that is made during the tour needs to be in agreement with all the group, so, next time, feel free to express your desire of exploring the place your're visiting (even just for a few minutes) - after all, it's your experience that is in stake. All the best,
