About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- anthonyrT3125FG0 contributionsAwesome experience and guide!Visiting Conimbriga was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Alfredo, was a very knowledgeable guide and added a lot of context and value to the ruins! I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Roman history!Written 3 September 2024
- estelleleslie0 contributionsAmazing Roman RuinsWe were picked up at the hotel by Green Deer tour. Our host was fantastic. He drove us out to the Roman ruins. He brought history alive. We couldn’t believe how large the site was ( with more to be excavated. ) He was so knowledgeable and we had a very enjoyable and interesting day !Written 12 August 2024
- Paradise614992246920 contributionsFantasticFun and exciting. The guide was very experienced in the region and took us to many under the radar locations. Lots of sightseeing and wildlife around the area, which is not crowded with tourists. Lovely restaurant as well. Definetly recommend.Written 26 May 2024
- David F0 contributionsDefinitely worth itOur guide was very knowledgeable about the ruins, which were fascinating. My wife and I both studied Latin, and therefore Rome, but to actually see it was beyond words. The fountain was amazing. We could have done with less museum.Written 17 April 2024
- alexbL6911NP0 contributionsGreat experience but misleading about museum faresThe tour was amazing and the guide was very knowledgeable! I would have given it a five but some things were misleading. The description didn’t say that the museum fares were excluded, which made us think they were included. Also we didn’t receive a souvenir photo unless the description meant the guide taking our photo using our own phones. It was unclear. Lastly it was a small thing but I feel like the guide could have paid the 50 cents for the fountains at the House of the Fountains.Written 4 April 2024
- Martha S0 contributionsTour of Roman RuinsThis tour was amazing!!! Don’t miss out on this trip. A visit to Coimbra is not complete without a visit to the Roman ruins!! Our guide was Alfredo and he was extremely knowledgeable of the area and history, very friendly, was able to answer all of our questions and gave us just the right amount of time at each of the stops. Thanks for the great tour. Martha and BillWritten 8 November 2023
- laynettee0 contributionsAmazingly well preserved ancient ruins. Great guide. Worth every penny.Alfredo was a wonderful guide - very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of the Romans in what is now Portugal. Despite foul weather, we had an unforgettable experience and learned a great deal. Conimbriga knocked our socks off!Written 26 October 2023
- GrandTour7466760 contributionsMust visit for Roman history buffs.Alfredo and his tour was outstanding! The tour was conducted in the rain and there wasn’t a place we missed. He knows his history and was proud to share the Roman history of Portugal. Alfredo is personable, funny, knowledgeable and informative. Coimbriga is outstanding. We have visited several other Roman sites in Italy, Spain and Portugal and found this one exceptional. It’s a small group (max of 4) in a 4x4 vehicle. Very fun, quick drive between the sites that includes interactive museums that Alfredo walks you through and explains history. We highly recommend this tour for those of you who have great interest in “the Empire.”Written 24 October 2023
- E7454QIsueh0 contributionsEnjoying forest views and natureHad a lovely experience in Lousa mount looking for wildlife. Lucky enough to spotted a wild boar with young, a red deer, doe, fawn and bucks. Visited a schist village.Written 15 September 2023

We throughly enjoyed this tour to the Schist villages. Alfredo was the perfect guide, providing knowledge when needed, flexibility and offering us time to explore alone. We also got to stop at some view points on the road for photos and drove through the forests and were privileged to see a deer. We were able to see and enjoy more than we expected and highly recommend this tour. Thank you Alfredo.

Alfredo is a very passionate and knowledgeable guide. We had a pleasant afternoon into the Lousã Mountains. He showed me the beauties of Schist Villages and also drove to the foot of wind turbines. He knows the plants, animals, and history of the area by heart and doesn't hesitate to share his love of the region to the guest. The tour is very affordable and comfortable. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys local history and nature environment.

Highly recommend! Fascinating place with such an interesting history. What’s more is that the guide, Alfredo holds a wealth of knowledge about the area because he’s spent years visiting and exploring these mountains. He’s also easy going, friendly and a safe and responsible driver. I feel lucky to have had this experience.

Alfredo from Green Deer Tours took us around yesterday. We had a wonderful time! Alfredo explained about the history of the villages and how they have been rebuilt and used today.
He picked us up from Coimbra for a full eight hours and drove all over the mountains during the day's tour. We learnt about each village, saw houses being rebuilt, looked for deer, took pictures on a swing, and ate a delicious lunch.(try the goat stew)
Alfredo was a safe driver and conversation flowed easily in English. We enjoyed learning more about Portugal. We highly recommend him for this tour.

We are very glad we decided to do a tour of the Schist villages during our stay in Coimbra. Our guide, Alfredo, shared his knowledge and love of the mountains with us as we visited these unique villages made from shale. A pleasant change to get away from the city and experience nature.
I also enjoyed tasting the wine made from the Medronho fruit - delicioso! The tour was a great experience and one I would highly recommend.

Enjoyed the beauty of the landscape and the history of the 400-year-old stone houses, now being restored and redesigned for living and even renting on AirB&B. Moreover, I had the privilege of spending four hours with an insightful tour guide, Alfredo, who shared his vast knowledge of history, culture, and politics in a unique and engaging way. What an opportunity for me have such a wonderful exchange of ideas in English and Spanish, I travel for hours like these!

My wife and I took this tour back in March 2020, just a week before we had to leave Portugal in the oncoming pandemic. But this was the PERFECT tour for avoiding crowds! Alfredo has an all-terrain vehicle and knows the region exceptionally well. We drove around most of the day, stopping at very rural mountain sites. The views were magnificent. Even if there were no pandemic, this would still be one of the best day trips in Portugal. Mountains, nature, village walks, a chance to spot deer. This was a highlight of our three-week trip.

We took this tour in March of 2023 but It seems my review posted to another site so I apologize. This is my review, a bit late unfortunately... "Alfredo was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, caring and charming. He took care of us and made certain we saw the best parts of each village while providing us an excellent history of the area and the villages. Had an amazing time, Alfredo is kind and the pick-up process and communications is perfect. We visited 3 villages with a stop for coffee, pastries, and a glass of aguardiente (strawberry brandy) and was back to coimbra center by noon. Highly recommend the trip! There is some uphill/downhill climbing.
