Itinerary
Make your way to a tour office in Ponta Delgada, where you’ll meet your wildlife guide for a short briefing about your itinerary—the exact route varies with recent dolphin and whale activity, taking advantage of a series of observation points along the southern coast.

Board an open boat for a trip along the coast, which will last between 2 and 3 hours depending on the location of the wildlife.

Keep your camera ready, because there’s a lot to see, with more than 20 different cetaceans appearing in the waters off the Azores. Scan the water for spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins, and try to see the distinctive features of the whales that travel through the archipelago on their yearly migration routes.

With an experienced guide on board, you’ll learn about the animals you see, and get a fun perspective on the Azores’ distinctive nature. After 2 to 3 hours on the water, this tour concludes with drop-off in Ponta Delgada.

Lots of Sightings but a Brutal Boat Ride!

We booked a last minute 3 hour whale watching tour with Picos de Aventura early September. After a short instructional presentation, we donned over-sized life vests, grabbed raincoats, and boarded our boat. We assumed that we would be cruising in their larger double decked power...More

Impersonal industrial watching tour

We spent 3 hours together with other 80-100 people on a catamaran. The guides were instructed by radio/chips/other means on where the dolphins were. But they were not the only ones. Several faster Zodiac boats and also catamarans rushed to the same spots. At the...More

A dream with dolphins

We made the half day trip to see dolphins and whales. We just saw dolphins unfortunately but it was amazing, with 2 species of dolphins "playing" with the boat. The crew was very nice and our trip safe and calm. Azores is the perfect place...More

Exciting and plenty to see

The staff on the catamaran were both knowledgeable and friendly. We set off on our trip not really expecting to see a whale but we were amazed when we saw a pod of 8 sperm whales along with common dolphins and risso dolphins. It was...More

Fun trip but can be a little dull if you don't see much

We did this trip four times in a week as we love wildlife. It's a pretty big boat so you can find your own space. They use people with binoculars in the hills to point them in the right direction so you generally see something...More
