We really enjoyed the La Paz water gardens . The toucans and hummingbird feeding stations next to the restaurant were two of the highlights. The gardens are beautiful and we also really enjoyed the walk down the series of waterfalls - these were particularly impressive because of the amount of rain that had been falling in the days (and hours infact) before. We had lunch on site which was reasonably priced and tasty. Overall we are really pleased we did this visit and highly recommend it - good value for money and the gardens were incredibly beautiful.
Be aware that at the gift shop at the end of the waterfall walk many items do not have prices marked so ask before you buy.

We booked a place in Alajuela (The Pura Vida Hotel) for two nights so we could have a local day after the long flight before we explored further. At the last minute, we decided to get a driver to take us to the La Paz Waterfall and Gardens and it was a great way to start the trip! We got to see the local countryside on the drive and see many rescued animals of Costa Rica at the park. Most of the habitats for the animals were very well done (bravo!) and that made me feel good. As others have noted, it is hard to ethically keep big cats, and hopefully they will apply some profits to expanding those habitats. Then we hiked around the gorgeous waterfalls -- far more impressive than I'd been expecting! All in all, a lovely introduction to the wild side of Costa Rica.

This place is amazing! The drive slowed us down a bit because of its steep turns, uphills and downhills plus the roads were little wet.
When we arrived we paid the a day ticket $58 plus all you can eat buffet of $17 per person.
We got to experience over 5 waterfalls, saw butterflies, monkeys, and wild animals.
There is plenty of stairs and extremely slippery. I would recommend to wear comfortable clothing and hiking shoes if possible. There are some areas (most) of stairs with no hand rail. Watch your step.
A lot of uphill stairs and downhills.
We took a camel back (with water) which was a great idea. We did not have a rain coat on us so we actually got wet because it rained. The waterfalls will also get you a little wet with the hard breeze so wear light clothing.

Lunch: was good. Chicken and bbq pork. The bbq was somewhat blend and the meat had not too much seasoning. Pesto Pasta was ok but the rice and beans tasted delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked. I had pineapple agua which was perfect not too sugary. Then after lunch it got cold so I had a coffee topped with the cream (leche) and some brown sugar. Great flavor. Just perfect. Overall, highly recommended

This visit is absolutely a must but for visitors in good shape because with its 720 steps. Beautiful place with a super beautiful landscape. Each section well identified with butterflies, birds, hummingbirds, felines, flowers, orchids, monkeys, the farm and the great waterfalls. the path is easy to follow. Even the road to get to La Paz park is superb but winding and made for a good driver and a 4-wheel drive

A bit pricey but overall enjoyable. All the animals either come from illegal ownership or another zoo. All animals are native to Costa Rica. The place is pretty hilly. The waterfalls are nice but do require several steps. They are quite pretty. Great stop from San Jose to LA Fortuna

All the animals are kept in enclosures which prioritise visitors being able to see and take “nice” pictures of the animals at the cost of giving them a poor and stressful living environment. None of them are given a safe space to feel hidden or sheltered and the snakes aren’t even given moist hides to help them shed.

For the price they ask to visit the very least they could do is invest a fraction of their profits into the Animal’s Wellbeing.

If you do not care about the animals and all you want is a nice photo with an overfed and sedated toucan, Feel free to visit!

There needs to be more staff to handle the number of entrants. Even though we paid in advance online, we still had to wait in line to buy our buffet tickets. We waited over 30 minutes at the entrance to get our buffet tickets and wristbands for the prepaid service. They only had one person handling ticket purchases and that person was also answering questions from customers. It was so inefficient and when you have teenagers that are impatient, it is just not the right way to manage customers. They need two or three staff at the front desk.

Because of Covid, the buffet should be a buffet served by staff. I was so scared that everyone was touching the same utensils to serve their buffet and the line was backed up and so crowded. If they had servers, at least during 11- 1pm, the line would move faster and the staff could wear gloves while they serve and protect everyone from Covid.

This is a mini zoo caged animals with little space, very artificial.

Why go to a zoo when you can see these animals in there natural habitat in Costa Rica roaming freely. Very Artificial.

The waterfalls were worth a visit and therefore the two stars.

A must see! Great views of waterfalls and the animals. It is at least a 1 1/2 -2 hour ride from San Jose so plan accordingly. I highly recommend hiring a driver that will stay there while you are walking the park and then take you back. A Uber or taxi won’t work.

Open exhibits that you advertise as being open. If there are no birds In the Aviary, say so. If there are no humming birds, say so. If there are no staff in the butterfly section, say so. Paid full price for a greatly diminished experience
