- 649gerryr0 contributionsA long dayWe saw lots of interesting sites, architecture and scenery. Rotterdam and Delft were quite nice. The tour itself is way too long. We had a 30 minute break mid morning and the 1 hour and 40 minutes for lunch. There is a fair amount of downtime. Our tour guide was hard to understand at times and provided only sparse details at the stops.Written 13 October 2024
- Culture416041478330 contributionsAmazing experienceThis was such an AMAZING experience. Our first tour guide Jay was great and he spoke Dutch, English and Spanish. Our bus was late so he generously bought all of us coffee while waiting. Then our bus tour guide Ibrahim was also awesome. He was so knowledgeable and you can tell he genuinely loves his job and what he’s doing. Also he generously bought us apples on our way to the town because our bus was late and that was great. Our bus to the town was also very nice and comfortable. I would definitely recommend.Written 11 October 2024

- 717andreis0 contributionsGreat tripGreat tour and our guide, Jay was outstanding. The drive was around two hours, but Jay was very entertaining, telling us stories, trivia questions. We had 2 hours to explore the village, perhaps it will be good to extend that to 3 in order to have enough time to take it all in. Overall, a great trip.Written 8 September 2024

- Choobyrooesq0 contributionsWonderful!!A big shout out to Ibrahim for being such an AMAZING guide on our day trip to Giethoorn! It takes about 1.5 hrs to get there from the center of Amsterdam but the time flew by as Ibrahim narrated the whole time giving us an entire history lesson Amsterdam. It was obvious he was very passionate about what he does and was so warm and friendly! He then stopped at a fruit farm that used to be the bottom of the Southern Sea and bought a big box is delicious strawberries and plums for us all to share! Once we got to Giethoorn (which is an adorable village filled with boats in narrow canals) , he put us on a 1 hr canal ride, complete with a cup of coffee and a stroopwaffel - both were tasty :) After that we got 3 hours to explore the village on our own. We walked most of the canals, perused the shops and got lunch. It was a great way to spend the day away from the crowded city. Definitely recommend this tour and especially Ibrahim!Written 5 August 2024

He shared good knowledge about the place as we drove to meet the rest of the tour. Jay was just as great. He gave us good history about the Netherlands and was a great tour leader. Giethoorn was amazing. A just do if you are visiting the Netherlands. Jay made everyone feel welcomed. Complimentary water...coffee...tea ans syrup waffles were delicious...not forgetting juicy apples and strawberries. Thank you Dutch tours! - Journey476910836360 contributionsTourist Trap #1 including trailer park. What has occurred in this village is terrible. I would rate the destination as #1 tourist trap during our 5 week trip. It's sold as quint but nothing less than a bumper car boat ride. The town planners surely want to build a tourist area and it supports their economy but outside of the few wonderful houses (where you can see in traditional villages), it offers little in authentic culture. The guides were fine though..Written 30 April 2024
- fourscorep0 contributionsAwesome experience with an awesome tour guide! This was an amazing experience. We went from Amsterdam to Giethoorn with a small group (6 of us total) in a van. Our tour guide was awesome! He knew the country, and he treated us like family. This was the best day of our week in the Netherlands!Written 28 April 2024

Read the description and the other reviews before booking. This is a way to spend a day that is very different from Amsterdam City. However, it’s a large group and involves a lot of driving and hanging around for 2 or 3 discrete experiences ( canal tour, clog making and cheese curds). That being said, Ibrahim was a rock star. He went out of his way to be sure everybody got to do everything. When the bus was hot (it was a hot day and the bus has been parked out in the sun) he got everybody extra water. Although the drive was long, Ibrahim’s commentary and conversation made the time pass quickly. You do also drive across the Afsluitdijk twice and get to experience it’s power. When issues arose with the itinerary, Ibrahim made a huge effort to smooth things over. Howver, I do think this would have been a 3 state experience with another guide.

We had a fantastic trip with our tour guide Ibrahim. I was so glad we were able to join this trip so last minute (we booked through another group that canceled 2 days before our tour) and contact was not only super fast with this group but beyond easy to understand. We knew the pick up point, time, trip start to finish which was great. Ibrahim was a pleasure, absolutely phenomenal tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable on everything and gave us a tour and discussion on anything and everything we passed or had questions on. You can tell he absolutely is a people person, he just radiates positivity and energy. He would speak to all of us and he was Polyglot too! He knew so many languages fluently and accommodated multiple people on the tour who spoke multiple languages. He drove us perfectly too, I was so grateful for that in a city like Amsterdam where the driving can be a bit scary it felt like a professional driver taking us on our adventures.
Now for the trip and travel review.
Zaanse Schans was a cute old timey town. Ibrahim walked us through the history of the area, what windmills were used for what, how townspeople transported and stored goods and much much more! The man who explained the cheese and demo'd how cheese was made was also so much fun. He was eager to answer any and all questions after the demo and we kept him awhile. Then there was a sampling inside the shop to try over 20+ varieties of cheeses for free. We also got a clog making demo from another shop that was also very fast and interesting to watch. Next, Giethoorn was super cute. Lovely little town and you can rent boats, scooters, bikes, etc after your 1 hour boat tour through the town or simply walk around. There is a guide on the boat who will talk about the town, its name, its work, etc but Ibrahim is also there supplying us with more info.
If youre in Amsterdam, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Peak tourist season like spring-summer could be wild due to everything blooming etc but it was still highly enjoyable to do offseason with less people. Thank you so much for everything Ibrahim, you rock and made this an unforgettable experience!

Our guide was extremely nice and knowledgeable, he made sure everybody was in the bus after every stop. We went to a beautiful town with windmills, a cheese factory which gave us a demonstration and tasting and also a wooden shoe factory with a demonstration as well. After that we went to giethoorn and took 1 hour boat ride through the beautiful canals and houses. We had time after to walk around, do shopping and have lunch. Absolutely recommend if you are in Amsterdam!!!

This whole trip is exceptional especially when it’s with a small sized group.
Said is so nice communicating about the pick up time and location the day before the trip. I didn’t expect I can be picked up right from the hotel I stay, which is way more convenient.
On the day of trip, the guide Ibrahim did a fantastic job and he makes sure everyone enjoy the day trip. He explains a lot of the history and many interesting stories and fun fact about the country and places on the way. Not only he is very knowledgeable about the places but also he is a very good photographer giving you many ideas of posing.
Since we are a small group of six, there is ample time to explore around the places and villages without much hassles of waiting.
Overall this is a must do trip in Amsterdam and you wont regret it visiting those stunning pretty places, with also cheese to enjoy in cheese factory plus the wooden shoes making store.

My husband and I had a great time exploring Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn! The bus ride was comfortable and our tour guide Fernando was nice and knowledgeable. It was a good mix of exploring together as a group and going off on your own. I recommend getting an IAmsterdam City card because we were able to get in free to go inside the windmills at Zaanse Schans.

This trip was great and just as promised. The villages were beautiful and I enjoyed the inclusion of demonstrations from the clog and cheese makers. The tour guide was very personable and entertaining. I would recommend for those that have a full day to dedicate to seeing beautiful Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn, as well as the scenery along the way.

We had this tour in July 2023 and it was fabulous. The tour guide Ibrahim was very knowledgeable and kept everyone informed and entertained from the moment the bus left Amsterdam city centre in the early morning.
This tour was our best day out in Amsterdam and we would highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed this tour. While at Zane Schans, we visited a cheese factory, saw a clog making demonstration and was able to visit the inside of a working windmill (extra charge). While at Giethoorn we had a canal cruise of this mostly car free town. Free time in both spots was good and not too long. The whole day is long, however, well worth it to cover both sites in one trip.

Our tour guide, Ibrahim, was excellent.
He told us many interesting facts during the whole trip.
The driver was also excellent.
The seating space in the car was a bit cramped but manageable given that the distance was not too far.

We were lucky to have Ibrahim as our guide, he was so knowledgeable and informative! The entire way on the coach he gave us detailed information about Amsterdam and its history, which was so interesting! What he doesn't know about Amsterdam isn't worth knowing! We were provided with water and fresh fruit on the coach and then coffee and stroopwafels on our boat ride. Highly recommend if you'd like to see how they make clogs and cheese, also view the windmills and pretty villages away from the busy city! Rob, the driver, was friendly and welcoming too.

After the 1 hour boat tour how much free time do we get to explore Giethorn?
Written 25 November 2023
There is plenty of time after the boat ride to enjoy Giethoorn. A couple of restaurants to pick between for lunch and a handful of shops. We didn't feel rushed, and were more than ready to leave at the allocated time.
Written 27 November 2023
How long do you spend Giethorn? The boat tour is one hour and then how long do we have on our own?
Written 25 November 2023
I believe it was a few hours maximum time wise. There are a few restaurants and a grocery store. We grabbed items from the store and walked around.

Hi, What type of electric boat will be used for the tour in Giethoorn? The small ones without any coverings? Or the big ones with coverings? How many ppl per boat?
Written 9 August 2023
Fairy large, covered boat. Approximately 50 persons.

Hello do you offer the tour explanations and comments , in Spanish ?

Our tour guide spoke both English and Spanish. So would say a few sentences or paragraph in English first, then repeat in Spanish.

Hello, is the boat tour self-drive or guided? I plan to go in early February, is the weather suitable for boat tour? Thanks
Written 27 November 2022
Hi :) The tour we ordered via Tripadviser included a guided tour on a boat. After the guided tour you will have some time on your own to explore the village. So, you can rent a small boat and try to row through many other crashing boats :) You do not need to have a ‘driving license’ to row the boats. Have a nice trip!

Hi! I plan to go on this tour with my mom. She can walk well enough, but gets tired easily. Can we take a folding travel wheelchair with us in case she gets tired?
Thanks!

Probably but ask about it when you make your reservation. I wish I'd had a transport chair on my visit it would have been more enjoyable. If you are assigned to Saeed he uses a van that seats 6 in the back. It did have a " trunk space" just not sure how large.
I hope it works out for you, it is a long day trip and so much beautiful area to see. There is a trip on one of the canals too. She will need to have assistance to board and disembark the boat. It's all sitting once she is onboard. Have fun. A true memory awaits.
