Overview
See the sights of Basel by City Sightseeing bus, and hop on and off around town to visit the landmarks, museums, and attractions that interest you most. The perfect way to sightsee at your own pace, the bus tour follows a route around the city center, passing the Kaserne Cultural Centre, the Roche Tower, and even the Stücki Shoppingcenter. You’ll learn about each site from the audio commentary as you ride around town.
What to Expect
Basel city tour will take you to all the most important sights in this beautiful city on the Rhine. You can jump on and off at any of the stops along the way. Experience Basel! Wander through a museum, explore the town hall, or cross the Rhine on one of the city’s famous ferries and catch the sightseeing bus on the other side of the river.

The tour will take you towards Heuwaage and the synagogue. Did you know there’s a wonderful view from the top of the Kohlenberg? From there, you can visit the Spalenberg Quarter, the ancient Gate of Spalen, and the architecturally-stunning Basel Women’s Hospital. Near the ferry pier, stop at the marketplace and the historic town hall.

After that, head towards the Rhine and Kleinbasel, which features the Gate of St. John with landing stage, the Novartis campus, and the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland, the origin of Basel’s tri-national status.

Keen to hit the shops? The Stücki Shopping Centre offers 125 stores covering a massive 32,000 m2.

The tour continues past the Musical Theatre towards the Kaserne Cultural Centre, where the annual Basel Tattoo is held. This is followed by the impressive modern exhibition centre designed by Herzog & De Meuron. Next up in this showcase of urban architecture is the old Warteck Brewery. From here, why not visit one of the Fährimaa (ferryman) and take a trip across the Rhine? After that, be sure to look up: the Roche Tower is the tallest building in Switzerland.

The attractions come thick and fast: next reach the Tinguely Museum with its imposing machines and sculptures. Look inside and discover the brilliance and creativity of internationally renowned artist Jean Tinguely.

After crossing the river, pass the district of Breite on the other side of the river, which features the last remains of the old Basel city wall. This medieval district is home to the old paper mill that dates back to the 14th century and which is now the fascinating Paper Mill Museum.

Enjoy a wonderful view of the Basel skyline as we travel along the Rhine towards the Kunstmuseum Basel. Here, there are literally thousands of ways to learn more about the city. The Kunstmuseum and Basel Minster are filled with interesting artworks and relics. Have you heard about the Pfalz behind the Minster? This raised terrace is an absolute must for all Basel visitors.

The tour continues past the neo-Gothic Elisabethenkirche and the Tinguely Fountain, before finishing at Basel’s main railway station.

With your hotel reservation, this bus trip is free. Certainly a great way to get a picture of the city.

We stayed at the Airport Hotel Basel. We arrive early from the river cruise. The hotel stored our luggage, gave us a city bus pass ad we were off, with the bus stop being next to the hotel. We traveled to the train station and...More

It does stop at Bahn SBB. I don’t know what you can do with your luggage as the place where I bought tickets at the tourist office doesn’t have storage facilities to my knowledge.
