It takes years to become a truffle-hunting expert, but this tour offers the next best thing: a chance to follow a skilled truffle hunter. Travel by van from Florence to San Miniato, famous for its delicious white truffles, to observe experienced truffle hunters and their dogs in action. Afterward, enjoy a 2-course lunch featuring truffles and sample Chianti wine. A small group size makes for an intimate experience.
What to Expect
Join up with your guide at the Piazza Cavalleggeri in central Florence. You’ll leave the city by air-conditioned minivan traveling west into the Tuscan countryside. You’ll stop in the town of San Miniato, the truffle capital of Tuscany, whose surrounding woodlands are home to the rare Italian white truffle.
Meet your truffle-hunter guide and his dog for a walk through the woods in search of the precious delicacy. You’ll follow the dog as he sniffs the ground to locate the prized fungus.
Afterward, reconvene for a lunch that includes a truffle-based appetizer, a truffle pasta, and a local wine.
Next, you’ll visit a winery in the world-famous Chianti region. You’ll learn about the art of Tuscan winemaking and sample several blends including the Super Tuscan and the winery’s own Chianti DOCG.
Your tour concludes with the drive back to Florence.
