- IJM-CM0 contributionsMeaningful learning experienceInside historical and contemporary look into how Jews were treated in this important part of Europe in the Middle Ages--as well as how the current community lives today. Wonderfully informed guides, expert explanations and visits to historical synagogues still in use today. Not to miss!Written 30 November 2024
- O3558JErichardz0 contributionsNice overview of the ghettoSylvia gave a nice overview of the Ghetto throughout history. She passed the baton to another person who did the synagogue part of the tour. The Italian synagogue was very interesting. However the guide then started to repeat what Sylvia already showed us so we decided t leave.Written 28 September 2024
- Sharon F0 contributionsGreat potentialGuide was difficult to understand at times and didn't answer questions asked to her. Also took us to planes with minimal discussion as to why Tour had a great deal of potential and could have been better. The synagogue visits given by a different guide through the visitor center however were excellent!Written 20 June 2024
- 117lorag0 contributionsSylvia is the best tour guide!Sylvia was an amazing tour guide! She really knew her stuff from the history of the Jewish ghetto to the current environment and modern lifestyle. We had the best time and enjoyed the meaningful Jewish history and her warm demeanor! Highly recommend!!!Written 6 May 2024
- ggradu0 contributionsNot a walking tour! The problem with this tour was that it was NOT a walking tour! We stood in the square for a hour and fifteen minutes where the guide was showing us maps in a protected folder of the history of the area. In depth history lesson standing! The guide was nice and very knowledgeable but the setting was inappropriate for most of the attendees. Other than taking us down 1 side street to show us some markers in the ground commemorating people who were lost in the holocaust and then over 1 bridge out of the ghetto and to a place in the square that had some significant important art work, we stood. Then a second guide took us for 45 minutes into 2 synagogues. I believe she was “certified “ to have access to do this. She was less than warm and enthusiastic. It was disappointing.Written 4 May 2024

- ErinB31060 contributionsInformative and Interesting TourWe did the three hour tour that included the Synagogues. The first part of the tour was about two hours and we explored the Jewish Ghetto. We learned a lot about its fascinating changing history throughout the centuries. The second part of the tour was about one hour and we visited two Synagogues. Both were impressive and different from the other. Both our guides were terrific and informative. I really enjoyed learning more about this special part of Venice.Written 13 March 2024

Valuable experienced that enhanced our time in Venice. Meeting directions were clear but should have been included on the tickets. Note: the description "with time for Synagogues Tour" is misleading. - olgakS7930VU0 contributionsGreat tour!I am so glad we booked this tour! Ilaria did the first (and longer) portion of the tour, taking us around the Jewish ghetto and explaining in depth all of its rich history. She was patient, personable and answered all of our questions. We then linked up with other tour groups in order to see the Sephardic synagogue (this tour was led by Sylvia). Also extremely informative! Please note that most of the synagogues are under repair and can't be visited. Depending on the time of year, they'll either take you to the winter or summer Sephardic synagogue.Written 19 July 2023

It would be hard to not be impressed with St Mark's and the Doge's Palace, but if you are fortunate enough to have Sandra as your guide then she will truly make it come alive on another level. Her knowledge and passion for the history, the artwork and the city itself was both genuine and contagious. I learned so much in such a short time ( I could literally have listened to her all day!).
I would highly recommend this tour, and if Sandra ever gets to read this review then Thank you so, so much, it was the highlight of our visit.

We enjoyed our tour with Chiara, and she made an effort to point our small details at St. Mark's and the Doge's Palace that we might have missed otherwise. It's great to have a tour from someone who genuinely loves the city they are showing you. She also showed us a great place to get "Cicchetti" (Venetian tapas) after the tour.

The Doge’s Palace (and prison, Bridge of Sighs) and the Basilica are must dos when visiting Venice the first time or, in our case, the second time. Having an expert guide and a small group adds greatly to the experience. There is so much history and so many questions that without someone who can relate that history and answer those questions, a tour would be incomplete.
It’s unfortunate that our tour day included cold temperatures, constant rain and flooding of San Marco. The Palace is unheated and includes outdoor space, so despite our warm and rainproof clothing, the experience was less leisurely and pleasant than it could have been. That is not the tour guide’s or company’s fault. But, if you can, choose a pleasant day for your tour.
We had originally booked this tour with the added gondola ride, the marginal cost of which was much less than a typical gondola ride. But the forecast for all the days we were in Venice was so ugly that we cancelled and rebooked for just the tours. Our guide said she would be taking some on gondola rides later that day. Hard to imagine.

The tour guide was great and engaging however it was too long a time in the dojo's palace almost two hours. We think about 45 minutes would have been plenty. Also there was no guided tour of St Marks at all. Got to walk around inside but the feed did not cover St Mark's Museum upstairs or the fee to view the gemstone plaque in the back of the church.

Dear James,
Thank you for leaving us a review. We appreciate your honest evaluation of the tour, and we understand that everyone has different preferences and expectations. We are delighted to hear that you found the tour guide to be great and engaging. Our guides are dedicated to providing informative and enjoyable experiences for our guests.
We take note of your concern regarding the time spent at the Doge's Palace. We understand that some visitors may prefer a shorter duration to have more time for other activities.
Regarding the visit to St. Mark's, we apologize for any confusion or disappointment. While we do include access to the basilica in the tour, we understand that some guests may have desired a more in-depth guided tour, covering the St. Mark's Museum and the gemstone plaque in the back of the church.
If you plan to visit Venice again in the future, we would love the opportunity to provide you with an even more enriching and enjoyable experience.
Best Regards,
Walks in Europe

Our group consisted of us two grandparents and our 13 year old grandson. Our tour guide was Claire, a chic French woman who has made her home in Venice for many years. She was a wonderful tour guide, very informative and business like, she kept us moving, but with a good sense of humor and interesting side remarks. We adults had been in Venice a number of other times, but this was the first time we had time for a tour, and it was money well spent. Our grandson was engaged as well, as she was able to communicate very well with our total group number of 13 people. I highly recommend this tour leader.

It was a rainy day and it was ridiculously busy, but Sandra handled it all brilliantly, keeping us informed with her obviously extensive knowledge of history and culture. Yes, it costs a bit, and we’re not usually one to take tours like this, but I’m glad we did.
We also made use of the ticket to visit Museo Correr the next day, which adds to the overall value.

Our guided tour of Venice, exploring St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace with Walks In Europe, was an unforgettable experience, and the highlight of the day was undoubtedly our tour guide, Alessia. I have been on many guided tours before, but Alessia made this one truly exceptional.
From the moment the tour began, Alessia's passion for Venice and its history was evident. Her narration was so captivating that it felt as though we were being transported back in time. As we walked through the majestic halls of the Doge's Palace and marveled at the intricate beauty of St. Mark's Basilica, Alessia's stories and insights brought the rich history of Venice to life in a way that few guides can achieve.
Her deep knowledge, coupled with her enthusiasm, made the experience incredibly immersive. We didn't just see Venice—we felt its history, its culture, and its soul. Alessia's ability to connect with her audience and make every moment meaningful turned what could have been a standard tour into a magical journey through time.
Thank you so much, Alessia, for making our day in Venice so special. This tour was the highlight of our trip, and we are grateful for the wonderful memories you helped create. If you are considering this tour, I highly recommend requesting Alessia as your guide—you will never forget it! Five stars just aren't enough to express how much we enjoyed this experience! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Venice is truly stunning, and this informative and well paced tour was great value. Our guide Ilaria clearly knows her stuff, but she didn't just reel off a dry list of facts. Her commentary (in excellent English) wove together strands of medieval geopolitics, architecture and art history, religious and wider allegorical symbolism, amongst other topics. I would definitely recommend taking the tour with her if you get the chance.

This is a major landmark in Venice so it was good to get some history and perspective that you just can't get without a guide. We were on a limited schedule so maximising our time by skipping the queues was a bonus (they were long). We initially were waiting at the wrong meeting point as there are so many Lions with wings on them in the square, but it is the one near the water by the two big columns. The tour guide was well marked and easy to find once we got there.

Excellent tour led by Carol enabling us to further understand the history of the Dogers and the relevance of much of the art work in the Doger’s Palace. Similar excellent tour of the Basilica particularly as it was very busy.
In addition Carol handled a very difficult situation with a couple on the tour, one of whom in particular clearly did not want to be on there. This person was in my opinion very rude to Carol and had no regard for the impact their behaviour had on the other people on the tour. Carol was very patient with them and did her best to include them in the tour. When they decided to leave 40 minutes into the Palace tour Carol did everything she could to help them but their reaction remained unpleasant. I add this to my review because if they complain about the tour you need to know that your tour guide Carol handled the situation very professionally and should in no way be criticised by this couple.

Yes, it is, and the lines (especially for Doge's) were really long. The guide was great; we would not have known what we were looking at otherwise.

One reviewer commented this tour is not a "skip the line" tour. Please explain what they mean. "Included are pre-reserved tickets". Don't guests meet the guide at an assigned time and go in at that time with their ticket? What is the process please. Thank you.
