- icebluemermaid0 contributionssuch a great tour we did it twice 2016 and 2024Roberta C was very informative and very personal. She went out of her way to engage the teenagers in the group. She was concerned about the survival of her town. We learned alot about the residents of Venice. This was our second tour with Walks of Italy and we strongly recommend them.Written 6 December 2024
- nicolegH4154NB0 contributionsGiuliano was an impressive guide! We learned so much!Giuliano was an amazing tour guide! As a native Venetian, he knew all of the spots of the beaten path! We learned so much about the history of Venice and had time for a coffee stop/bathroom break during the first half of the tour. Then, we had a 30 min or so gondola ride and lunch/shopping break, followed by a guided tour through the oldest church in Venice, adorned with golden mosaics, followed by the fascinating Doges palace! We left with such an appreciation for the culture and history of Venice!!Written 5 December 2024

- S7707CSrachelm0 contributionsThe full Venice experience! We had a great time on this tour! We were sure to schedule on a day that the Rialto fish market would be open and it didnt disappoint. Our guide Nico is local to Venice and gave us thorough detail on the history of Venice and was very interactive with all of our questions. The tour was about 2 hours of walking around Venice and seeing the main attractions, and ended with a 30 minute gondola ride!Written 20 November 2024
- Patti_K64590 contributionsBoth are Historical Highlights & must see in VeniceSt Marks Basilica is a short wait to get in but worth it to see ( Bring some euro coins to light a candle) but the Doge's Palace is a brutal line up so get their early. Both places will take up most of your day and so worthwhile to see and they are near the dock at St Mark's Square. The history you will learn at the Doge's Palace is amazing. Walking across the Bridge of Sigh's and looking down at the Canal is an interesting experience of where they walked Prisoners' across. We did both tours late dayWritten 15 November 2024

- MariaCherie0 contributionsGreat value for a one-day Venice tourThis tour delivered a lot of value for the price and time. It moved fast, but also built in breaks to allow rest and opportunities to find something to eat. Having pre-arranged gondola rides and entries into St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace made it convenient. Having explanations about the sights made it all more meaningful than just seeing pretty buildings, statues, and paintings. Our guide kept us moving at a good pace while not rushing. She provided plenty of historical and cultural context.Written 12 November 2024

- Lifes2short4me0 contributionsAmazing access with a wonderful guide! The small group tour with Roberta was absolutely amazing! The access to St. Mark's Basilica at night is a very different experience than seeing it with 1,000 other people during the day and being moved along (I've done that too!). It's quiet, dramatic; and, when they slowly put the lights on as you sit in the dark, it's magical. The mosaics come to life and sparkle as you watch the basilica "wake up." That's a very nice touch. We were able to see the crypt and go behind the altar to see the famous Pala d'Oro altarpiece, which I was really looking forward to. It did not disappoint! Roberta was a fountain of knowledge and her English is wonderful. I didn't want the tour to end. Spend the money and do this!!Written 10 November 2024
- inigo5430 contributionsAmazing placeI had a wonderful experience on the Venice In a Day tour! The highlights of the Basilica San Marco and Doge's Palace were breathtaking, with our guide providing fascinating insights into their history and architecture. The gondola ride was a relaxing way to see Venice from a unique perspective. The only downside was the tour felt a bit rushed at times, but overall it was a great way to experience the city's main attractions in one day. Highly recommend for first-time visitors!Written 10 November 2024
- stephenbM8626GT0 contributionsThis is one of the best tours in all of Venice. Incredible in every way!Amazing and highly recommended!! Seeing Doge Palace and St. Marks at night is incredible. One of the highlights of our entire trip. Our guide was so knowledgeable, she knew so much about both institutions. Doge was great, but the highlight for me was St. Marks! - tammybX8266HG0 contributionsPlan for at least 5 hours for this tour with a 2 hr Break in-between sightingsWe were super excited for this night tour at St.Marks Basilica and Doge's palace and this was to be one of the highlights of our time in Venice. The reviews all made it sound like we would see St. Mark's and then go to Doge's palace and the total tour time was a max of 3-3.5 hrs. We arrived only to find that we were going to Doge's palace first. Fine, but really more interested in St. Mark's Basilica. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and worked hard to accommodate all ages and abilities in our group. We finally finished Doge's palace around 8 pm only to go outside and have the guide tell us to return in 2 hrs (at 10pm) for St. Mark's Basilica. I inquired what was happening as we had NOT been given notice that there was a 2 hr. break in between the sightings of the two buildings and explained that we had a reservation for dinner that could not be altered at 9:30. I asked if there were any alternatives, such as coming back the next day with a different tour group, but the guide was not understanding of why our restaurant reservation couldnt be changed (their last reservation was filled months ago) and claimed not to be able to get ahold of anyone and only told me I had to send a message through email. I confirmed with others in our group as well that they too had NOT been notified of a 2 hr delay between sightings and one member even mentioned that he had done the tour previously and it did not have the 2 hr. delay. He and his group were not able to come back for the St. Mark's portion as was at least one other couple that I knew of that also could not return. The tour guide herself mentioned what a hardship it was for her to come, give a tour, have to waste 2 hrs of her time walking around the square and then return for the second part of the tour before she could go home, well after midnight usually. I emailed the company and requested an alternate visit to St. Marks as I really wanted to see it, but no offer ever arrived. I did receive a refund of one of our two tickets, but I would have rather preferred to see St. Marks as I had planned well in advance to do so and never got to see it. Walks of Italy should be more upfront and provide a scheduled itinerary for this tour so people know what they are in for and can make plans accordingly.Written 31 October 2024

The guide was very knowledgeable and had excellent English. But she tilted her commentary in the Doge's Palace too much towards all the various artworks on display, with in-depth comment, analysis and interpretation of what the elements 'on canvas' meant or were meant to portray, i.e. she was telling us how to 'read' each painting - which became a bit of a bore after a while.
It's also an expensive tour based on what I saw of the actual ticket prices to get in the Basilica and Palace, you are paying a lot for the guide's time.

We arrived at the designated meeting point at the correct time and we were greeted immediately (I always have a vague fear that I won't find them!). There were only 6 people in our group so it felt like we were having a private tour. Andreas, our guide, is a Venetian and his love of the city, the architecture and history really shone through making this one of the best guided tours I've been on. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions.
The Basilica and the Palace were so beautiful, and going in December was great as many of the rooms were empty when we got there so we weren't competing with hundreds of other tours and got to have a good look at the everything without having to jostle through the crowds.
All in all, this was probably my favourite afternoon spent in Venice. I would definitely recommend this tour.

4-th of July 2020 Legendary Venice tour
We (family of three) were lucky to visit the Doge’s Palace and the St. Marc’s Basilica on 4-th of July 14:00 on a guided tour.
Our guide was Mattia, and it was one of the best guided tours i have ever attended.
Mattia is an afficionado of history and afficionado of his city.
In this short time he provided enormoeus amount of information about the Doge’s Palace and St. Marc’s Basilica, but also about the life in the past in a smart and fancy way, with lot of anecdotes, which only a person, who loves his work and city can provide.
Not only his historical knowledge was impressive, the managment of the heterogenous group was absolute professionell. He took care of all tour guests, the teenagers, as well as also those who were not so fit walkers.
Even my husband and my teenage boy, who are not so fond of sightseeing, were thrilled by this tour.
I appreciate very much Mattias effort.
THX a lot. This was a very amazing experience.
We love to come again.

If you can, visit all the landmarks within this vicinity! There are some breathtaking sights within all the attractions here, even for those not particularly interested in fine art or architecture.
The queues are not always as long as most people come across however, you are best off booking online for the skip the line tickets so you are in within minutes of arriving!
Inside the palace is a prison walk, and I would highly recommend taking the extended tour which is completely free but keep an eye out for the sign as it is easy to miss.
This tour takes you around the full prison and you cross the Bridge of Sighs twice and offers some fantastic views.

So we booked this guided tour ,Viatour is the Company based in San Francisco ,USA that provides the tour. Booked well in advance , received specific instructions to meet under portico at designated address . We arrived at piazza well in advance at least 90 minutes and about 30 minutes prior to tour commencement 14: 00 hours we moved to front of this specified address , another entire Family was also waiting at this address , (so it seems we have correct location) and after speaking to the family, had exact same information and time etc. The time came and past with no sign of tour guide, there are several tours, other companies, every day so its important to be at the designated spot, which we were awaiting , remained for at least an hour. No emails, No texts, No phone calls , No contact of any kind initiated by the Company, were sent at any time during the day before or after the appointment time. Attempt to call customer service line , other family did so, about 20-30 minutes on phone call without resolution of any kind. The Company, VIATOUR, has refused to REFUND the $200.00+ fee for the tour. It is unlikely that entry tickets were purchased , typically done upon entry . We successfully took other tours while in Italy with few issues , We rarely request or dispute charges, Very disappointed, will file dispute with FTC & BBB ,San Fran ,shortly in America. Followed the meet up instructions to the letter and tour guide was not in designated spot, we did not get to visit the Basilica as the line at this time of day for regular entry was hours long and close to cutoff time. Hope your experience is better,

We took this tour today with Elena. We were tired from a great deal of walking and the thought of a 3 hour tour was a bit much but we couldn’t have been more wrong! Elena was so knowledgable and eloquent in her delivery of the tour that we soon understood this was ago be one of the best experiences we had in Venice. The Basilica is of course impressive without words but Elena was able to bring to life so many stories and little points that you just would not get if you entered without a guide. The tour of the Doge’s palace was even more intriguing. I loved her knowledge of the paintings and little items along the way. Take this tour in Venice — it is so worth the money!

An excellent tour and guide. Our guide, a german lady but whom has been resident in Venice for many, many years and spoke outstanding english, was brilliant. She was highly knowledgeable and very natural in her delivery. Often these experiences can be a bit rehearsed, the guide feeding you lots of facts but not in a particularly engaging manner. This was different, very interesting and a really immersive experience.
If I had one area for improvement it would have been to reduce the group size. We've been on lots of 'free' (tip based) walking tours including in Venice which tend to have quite large groups but at £75 per head it would have been great if the overall numbers could have been kept down a little.
Overall well worth the money and a fantastic way of experiencing two incredible buildings.

Our party enjoyed the tour very much. Paola was an excellent guide: very professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Her passion for Venice and its history and future was evident throughout the tour. She expertly led the group of twenty-four through the basilica and palace providing exceptional details of the surroundings and answering questions from the group. It was truly a memorable tour for our family.

Great tour definitely recommend to take the 8am tour if possible as the Doges Palace is empty at this point. Our guide gave just the right amount of detail, some interesting stuff but did not talk about every painting and every mosaic. Really good background on Venice and how it was run as well as history of the buildings. Good insight to life in Venice from a local guy who clearly loves his city. Audio system worked really well . Worth the money!

Everything about the tour was excellent. It was easy to find the meeting point and because it was a large group, we were divided into three smaller groups. Laura was an excellent guide and so knowledgeable. I thoroughly enjoyed the Walk and bypassing the long lines made it worthwhile. The highlight of the tour for me was being in St Marks when they turned the lights on so that you could see the beauty of all the mosaics.

Hi, can an unvaccinated visitor join the tour with a negative antigen or negative covid test?
Written 2 August 2022
If memory serves correct, I don’t recall there being a question of vaccination or needing to show a vaccination card. Italy dropped their green pass requirement right around the beginning of June. A quick Google search for current requirements should provide you an update since requirements are subject to change.
