About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Anna G0 contributionsGreat tour and tour guideRoberta was our food and walking tour guide for the city of Parma. We were so impressed with Roberta’s knowledge of Parma and of the different foods we ate. My nephew and I enjoyed Roberta’s explaining to us the aging and process of the cheeses and the different cows producing such cheeses. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Parma and Roberta was instrumental in us having a wonderful time. Thank you Roberta.Written 23 February 2025
- christineeF9657ML0 contributionsWonderful family friendly taste and tour of the region.Michelle was a wonderful guide showing my family around the city of Parma. We had 12 people, 4 of which were children and we all had a really wonderful time. We took the train in from Milan and spent the day. Tasting the food of the region was truly a highlight and Michelle’s knowledge of the area was outstanding. We got to see highlights throughout the city and would definitely recommend this tour if you only have a day in the area.Written 5 February 2025
- micheletI5016SJ0 contributionsA delicious and immersive tourWe loved this walking tour with Roberta! She is very knowledgeable and kind, and she really took the time to guide us through a complete historical and culinary experience. As an Italian living abroad, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about my country and its traditions. For my partner—who is not Italian—this was even more of a treat, as he got to experience a (half) day full of incredibly tasty food and learn about the history and traditions behind it. Plus, the food was truly delicious! We visited only local and traditional places, tasting something new at each stop. We ate so much! 😅 Roberta is a great storyteller; she explained the ins and outs of how the incredible food we tasted was created. Since the tour was just for the two of us, she took the time to answer all our questions, making it feel truly special and tailored to our needs. I would definitely do this again and recommend it to my friends. Thank you for a great day!Written 30 January 2025
- micheletI5016SJ0 contributionsWe loved our tour!We loved how Roberta and her colleagues treated us, all the way from booking to the Parma walking tour that we took together. Not only Roberta is an expert at what she does, she is super friendly and adapted the experience to our needs (where possible). Highly recommended to get in touch with them!Written 30 January 2025
- AmitA4450 contributionsFood tour in ParmaWe had a great experience in the tour in Parma. It exceeded my expectations. Michelle was so knowledgeable, thoroughly explaining about each and every local delicacy, to a level that impressed me as a chef. Also very approachable and with loads of patience. Strongly recommend to add that as a way of seeing beautiful Parma, when you are travelling in the area.Written 18 January 2025
- nicholaskimberlyw0 contributionsLoved this tour, fascinatingMichelle was very knowledgable! Kept us engaged, explained everything and very kind. She has great relationships with the balsamic and caseificioWritten 18 January 2025
- Nielsfm0 contributionsFood filled highlight of ParmaThis tour takes you through the city centre of Parma, where food, history and of course the kind and knowledgable tour guide Roberta form the absolute highlight. After having visited Italy many times, we learned a lot about the history of food, particularly Parmigiano, Balsamico, and Prosciutto di Parma, that we did not know yet. Another highlight for me was the store with sugar coated violets. The time flew by on this extensive walk, that I would highly recommend. Hope you are hungry!Written 14 January 2025
- GoPlaces028170903330 contributionsWonderful in every way!A wonderful experience in every way. Michele gave us an intelligent and enthusiastic tour and personally was generous, professional, and good natured. The time passed so comfortably and I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!Written 7 January 2025
- julianozf790 contributionsThe Best of Emilia RomagnaMichelle is an expert in the art of teaching about the heart of Emilia Romagna. Her knowledge of the history, process and flavors of Parmigiano Reggiano and Aceto is enormous. Even greater is her passion for what she does. This is evident at every moment of the tour, which was one of the best we have ever done. Highly recommended!Written 6 January 2025
- MrDarcyAndElizabeth0 contributionsOutstanding Food Tour of BolognaThis was our second experience with Artemilis tours and I couldn’t be happier. Cecilia was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. My partner and I loved how she wove bits of history of the city and architecture into the tour. The food stops were all thoughtfully curated from savory (cured meats and cheeses) to sweet (gelato and chocolate). By far the standout of the tour was watching a demo of traditional pasta making — and trying our hands at folding tortellini. Of course, eating the tortellini en brodo and tagliatelle alla Bolognese was great, too. Everything was simple, from booking to meeting up in the city center. I would highly recommend Artemelia and Cecelia any food-oriented traveler.Written 18 December 2024
- samuelfW9091IG0 contributionsLoved the experience and want to come backThe experience was amazing. Michelle was an excellent guide, she provides many historic facts that make the experience fun and interesting. We were able to talk directly with the producers and had the opportunity to see the cheese and vinegar processes inside the factories at first row. We would love to come back to Parma and repeat this experience.Written 11 December 2024
- nicolineh8000 contributionsGood trip, good foodWe walked around the city trying different foods and learning about the food culture of the area. Thanks to our guide Cecilia!Written 10 December 2024
- Q5790DVisaacm0 contributionsHighly recommend this delicious and insightful experienceWe had an amazing time with our guide, Roberta - in fact, this might have been our favorite tour during our trip to Italy! My wife and I were actually the only people in our tour, so it was very intimate and we got to move at a very comfortable pace without ever feeling rushed. It was almost magical how Roberta would take us to a location and suddenly delicious food would appear for us to try! We didn’t have to worry about ordering (she either did that for us or had already scheduled it advance) or paying (since we’d opted for the pre-paid option). We got to try so many different dishes, and Roberta shared so much info about all of them. We learned a lot, ate a lot, and made a lot of great memories. We will definitely come back to Parma again for a longer visit!Written 30 November 2024

- Krystin220 contributionsPerfect Parma day with cheese, balsamic and wine!!Michelle is an incredible tour guide, super knowledgeable, kind, fun and thoughtful. The tour took us to one of the best cheese factory’s in Parma as well as a magical Balsamic tasting and tour and winery experience! The whole day was perfect and an incredible value. Michelle was super flexible and accommodating because we had kids with us and she was able to customize the whole experience based on our needs. If you want to have a wonderful experience call Michelle and let her curate it for you based on her wealth of experience, expertise and approach. Everyone had the best day.Written 17 November 2024

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Emilia-Romagna. Michelle picked us up from our hotel in Parma and our first stop was a small, independent producer of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. We got to see so many steps of the cheese making process up close! At first I had wondered why we needed to make such an early start to the day, but Michelle timing it perfectly so that we could see everything (from the boiling of the milk and separating the curds, to forming the wheels). We even got to help “turn” the curds to release them from the bottom of the copper vat.
Next we got to taste 12, 24, 30, and 36 month Parmigiano Reggiano. Michelle is level 2 certified taster and thoughtfully walked us through the tastings, pointing out the nuances of each cheese’s aromas, textures, and flavors. So fun!
Our second stop was a “salumifico” in Langhirano. I loved that this was another small family run business, this one woman owned and operated. Michelle was so knowledgeable about the whole process of making Prosciutto di Parma and walked us through the facility. So cool to see — although I wouldn’t recommend for my vegetarian friends. :)
We ended with another great tasting — this time with a little glass of local wine, too.
I truly cannot recommend Artemilia more highly. This truly felt like a once in a lifetime experience. Such a fun and special day.

Hi Jess,
Thank you for your wonderful review. It was such a pleasure to hear that you enjoyed the experience and the small family run businesses I selected. My desire has always been to provide our guests with a genuine and non-touristy experience, so that they can fully understand the origins of the quality of unique products such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Parma Ham. This is why I have designed a slow-paced tour which allows our guests to see the whole Parmigiano Reggiano cheese production process, including the first phases that you do not always get to see. I have tried to make this experience as fun and interactive as possible with some brief "hands on" moments. Maybe the early start is not pleasant but once you get there you understand it is worth doing, particularly if you want to discover the art of making Parmigiano Reggiano step by step. I sincerely hope that our paths will cross again.
Best regards,
Michelle Costa

We spent a great afternoon with Michelle C. walking and eating our way across Parma and can only highly recommend this experience to anyone and everyone! Michelle is a wonderful guide who is full of wonderful insight, history, and clearly an excellent ambassador for her home town.
Our tour included stops to taste at a wonderful panini shop, a beautiful local restaurant for cheese, wine and pasta tasting, then onto a deli which just blows your mind. Dessert, coffee and even gelato rounded out our tour. We didn't eat beforehand and arrived with an empty stomach .. and walked away wanting for nothing.
The tour is not by any means cheap, but the value is amazing. The private tour allowed us to walk, taste and experience the city in a way which is just not possible in a group tour.

This half day tour was absolutely amazing! Michelle met us at the dairy farm (Villa Aiola) bright and early and proceeded to give us the most informative, energetic, detailed, up close and personal tour of the Parmigiano Reggiano factory. During the tour we watched the different stages of the cheese being made and even had a chance to assist in the cheese making process. The tasting did not disappoint...4 different Parmigiano Reggianos and freshly made ricotta...they were all delicious. From there we headed to a proscuitto di Parma factory. On the way Michelle provided us detailed history of the town and stopped for a photo op of a 15th century home. At the prosciutto factory, we learned about the aging process and ate delicious samples of the ham. If you want an immersive, personalized experience, this is the experience for you.

Beatricia (sp?) was an excellent guide who knew a huge amount of information about both the making of Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto de Parma. We definitely appreciated visiting smaller family owned businesses. The tastings of both the cheese and ham were eye opening, revealing the differences that time and craft can have. The prosciutto tour is not for your vegetarian friends, but otherwise highly recommend this half day tour.

Absolutely wonderful experience.
Michelle was great, extremely knowledgeable about both the Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma making process! You can tell she's passionate about her touring company and the experiences she provides. Definitely the right person to guide you through the extraordinary process of making Parmigiano and Prosciutto.
Villa Aiola and Salumificio Conti were everything we could have hoped for, family owned and run with superior quality products.
Only wish we could have spent more time at each factory, but alas we booked the half day tour since our party was four adults and two kids.(The full day would have bit a bit much for the kids)

The farms were a little outside the City of Parma, but great to get out into the Countryside. We drove our car to the location to meet and then we followed our guide to the farms. The GPS was helpful to find the meeting location. We had to wear coverings to keep the areas where we visited sanitized. The process of making this amazingly wonderful and famous cheese was an educational and interesting experience and lots of fun trying all the different aged cheeses. Then off to the next farm following our guide. After learning how the curing of the ham was done and passing through the giant storage rooms, the best part of the prosciutto ham tour was sitting down at a large table and eating the most delicate and tasty Prosciutto you can ever eat. Our guide spoke English and was local to this area, with total knowledge of both the Cheese Farm and Prosciutto Farm.

Wow! This was a fantastic experience. Michelle is extraordinarily knowledgable about local food, art, wine, and culture. She has lived in the area all her life and is so passionate about what she does. She is a certified cheese taster and is pursuing her sommelier license so she really knows her stuff. Not only is she brilliant, but she is kind and very funny. She works hard to maintain strong relationships with local, and small scale producers who take pride in their work. There are countless tour options for food in Emilia Romagna but this group is the best. Book them today. Thanks, Michelle!

Can not recommend this guiding company enough. My husband and I had such a wonderful experience with Michelle, whose passion for the food we were experiencing added so much to the tour. Michelle carefully selected family-run, long-standing prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano producers to feature on the tour, and it really was an unmatched experience.

Dear Melissa,
Thanks for your enthusiastic feedback. It fills us with joy to learn that you loved the experience and the little details that make it special, such as the fact that it includes the farm and allows you to get to meet dairy cows and maybe stumble upon a new born calf. A great day for the guests we guided is always a great day for the guide who accompanied them, its memory remains over time and fills the heart of joy. We hope to have you as our guests again.
