My 17-year-old travel companion had chosen Italy as the destination for our trip together and specified the Colosseum as their main point of interest in Rome. It seemed essential to take the tour with exclusive access to the Underground area, where the animals were kept before being raised to the arena floor and gladiators used to mingle. Our guide, Lia with Touriks, met us outside the Colosseo Metro Station, escorted us across the street and through the entrance and security lines. We toured the underground area, the arena floor, and even walked along some of the exhibits on the upper level. She enlivened her speaking tour with drama and sound effects to try to bring the scene of nearly 2000 years ago to life. She then took us on a tour of the Forum, ending at the overlook on Palatine Hill. She made sure that we all knew where we could fill our water bottles and gave us time to do so several times. The teenager later told me that he really enjoyed this tour because of how engaging and entertaining Lia was. I appreciated how knowledgeable and informative she was. The tour lasted almost exactly three hours.

Lia also was very helpful recommending restaurants in Rome, suggesting where people might go to eat for lunch or dinner after the tour. When she found out that we would be traveling next to Sorrento, she even recommended an excellent restaurant there for us to visit!

My only complaint was regarding the pricing. We booked this tour through GetYourGuide, who advertises this attraction at $93 per person, but it actually cost $106 pp in early June, and appears to now be priced higher (~$112 pp). Be very careful when booking - it turns out the "cheap" rates are for much shorter tours. They should advertise the shorter and longer tours separately and provide accurate pricing for each.

We would like to clarify that the duration of our Colosseum Underground, Arena & Roman Forum tour is always 3 hours. The other optional tours that are advertised on GetYourGuide with different durations are provided by other local suppliers.

We participated in this tour on Sunday 18th September 2022.
The tour commenced @ 15.00 pm and our guide named Daniel no. 5 was excellent. He was knowledgeable, kept the group together and at a comfortable pace around the ruins to allow plenty of time for photos and to take in the historical landmarks.

We also felt that when you consider how ridiculously busy the Colosseum is, this tour gave us a small amount of space and separation from the crowds which enhanced the experience and made for easier photography.
Definitely book the underground tour in advance as it is extremely popular and sells out.
To avoid the heat I would recommend booking an early morning or late afternoon tour as there are periods of direct exposure to the elements.
The underground component was really amazing and takes your imagination on a wild ride of all the historical possibilities that may have taken place.
We would definitely recommend this tour.

Going by myself and using the little radio as I walk and want to explore more about specific arts, I recommend you to go by yourself if you can. Much better than those crowded groups, you need to wait for someone, and you don't spend time with quality learning about that art. The museum is clean and exciting. Don't buy tickets with strangers on the street. I hope you have fun.

I really did not like this tour. I would absolutely not recommend it if you can do an Audio guide or another tour group. I actually really wanted to ask for my money back. And I feel terrible saying this but our tour guide should not have been a tour guide, either he was not comfortable speaking English or he didn't know what he was talking about as far as the Colosseum goes. He would say "anyways" in the middle of explaining something he must've said it about 100 times at least. Along with asking us to pay attention to something when we were all staring at him and then he'd give some non important fact after saying pay attention. He didn't know how to answer most of our questions and there was almost no tenacity with his teachings, he would just go into saying something then move onto something else and it was very confusing and difficult to understand anything. Like I said definitely not worth almost $300 for two people. We were just praying for the tour to end to go to anything else in Rome. The colosseum itself was really neat, I'm glad I went I just wish I had other means or another tour to see it.

This access all areas tour with Gabriel was truly amazing and worth the price tag: as an archaeologist, the depth and breadth of Gabriel's knowledge was superb; he was also humorous and personable making the tour all the more enjoyable. The scale of the Colosseum is breathtaking; access to the underground areas and arena and discussion about how the arena was operated completed the picture and, in our view, should not be missed. A great tour.

We easily found the meetup location early and met our guide.
Sarah was our teacher for three plus hours, just me and my wife were in the group. We felt like royalty as many other groups had 10-15 people in it. Sarah is educated, friendly, and passionate about Rome and Italy in general. We were provided a headset and off we went, directly passing everyone to the bottom area of the Coliseum. We went bottom up and seen every aspect of this magnificent structure.

It appeared all the security and gatekeepers knew Sarah as we approached they opened lines for us to pass. We were waived at many bottlenecks to pass through lines as if we were on our own trip.

The depth of understanding Sarah had was apparent and her delivery was engaging and interactive. She came with pictures from an albulm for further clarity and understanding that she whipped out of her bag.

The tour is impressive, spectacular, and leaves you with an appreciation of how remarkable this place is and the people who erected it. I would highly recommend this tour.

From the Coliseum you go to the arches nearby and then to see one of the early emperors private reaidence. Then you are brought down into the valley and everything is put into perspective.

Dont miss this trip, you wont regret it.

The worst part of our trip. $240 for 2 in a “small” group of 20 people. The guide rushes you as fast as possible so they can get to the next tour, our “guide” actually tried to cut out tour short and skip half the colosseum! Our whole group was kind of stunned, so we protested, and she acted shocked “oh you want to go up the stairs??” Yeah. Obviously we do. We wanted to look in the gift shop but were not allowed, we had to stay with the group and rush right out the exit. No re-entry. Then a rushed walk through the forum, I talked with multiple people on our tour and we all left feeling really disappointed in the whole thing. Pay $16 to go at your own pace, the lines aren’t that bad.

We really enjoyed our private tour with Sara! She was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the culture and history all around us. She answered all of our questions—including several from my young kids on obscure topics—and navigated the crowd and heat really nicely by finding quiet shades spots to stop in and discuss the various sites. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a personalized experience in what is otherwise a very crowded and touristy area.

We attended this tour yesterday with Tourkis and we were guided by Serena around the Roman Forum, Palestine Hill and the Colosseum including the underground areas. We are so glad we went on this tour as we were part of a small group of 8 guests, so we all received a lot of attention from our guide who gave us lots of information and made the tour funny, enjoyable and relaxing - the time really flew by. When it comes to the Colosseum, the queues are very long indeed and when it says skip the line, you really do jump ahead of these long waiting times. Serena managed to get us to be the first group underground at the Colosseum and this part of the experience was what we had waited all week for - to see how the venue was operated, where the animals lived and how the gladiators entered the arena. Serena was also able to show us pictures of how the gladiators looked, what weapons they used in combat, how the fights were organised and also the other gruesome events that took place. She also revealed a fascinating thing that we didn’t know about the Colosseum which added a new dimension to how this venue was used, but we won’t spoil that surprise here. It was an amazing afternoon of discovery in warm sun with a great guide. Five stars.

We had an amazing tour, largely due to our tour guide Lia Caso from Touriks. First of all strolling in to these sites early and not being stuck in line or in crowds is worth every penny. Even though there were other groups doing various tours, when we were doing the colosseum portion, at times I felt we were the only group there, especially during the underground portion of the tour. Our tour started at 9:30 at the Forum and another stop which took about 1.5 hours and ended with the colosseum portion of the tour. This was perfect because by 11am it was getting very hot out and doing the more “sun exposed” Forum part of the tour first was perfect. It wouldn’t have been fun doing the Forum at 11am being much hotter and more crowded than earlier.

Lia was so bubbly and friendly, she made the tour very enjoyable. She is very knowledgeable and shared so many interesting facts throughout the tour of the Forum and Colosseum. Seeing the underground was also fascinating. Even though there were other tours going on from other companies, there were many times I felt like our small group were the only ones there. Maybe they limit the groups doing the underground tour bc it felt very private even though the Colosseum overall was relatively crowded.

I’m very happy we did this tour and definitely recommend it and Lia If you can request her!
