I think this tour really would depend on your guide for success or not. Luckily we had Amanda who was absolutely awesome - funny, animated and with extensive knowledge of the colosseum and the forums. It was insanely hot and we were so grateful that she prioritized getting to shaded areas before she talked and disseminated information.

Tips:
1. 100% bring water bottles. There are free fountains to fill up, but sometimes the queues can be crazy.
2. Wouldn’t really recommend for little kids, a lot of walking and heavy history talk — also once you get into colosseum it’s very crowded.
3. Some areas you can’t be in the shade - sunblock up, bring hat/sunglasses
4. For some reason trip advisor tells you that the ticket you get isn’t the “real” ticket and you need to get the actual one there. It’s false info (we showed up really early and were told that wasn’t needed). Just show up 15 min before and they’ll check you in and randomly divide you into color coded groups.

The audio headsets worked great and were so so crucial so we could hear our guide clearly no matter how far she was, and to be able to ignore the crowds/other guides talking.
Would recommend this tour 100%, the 3 hours passed by quickly and was totally worth it.

Our 'small group' Tour was booked before we left the UK and was a smooth transition. The start time had to change (colosseum changed it) but we were kept informed and there were no issues.

Amanda was our guide on arrival and she was just great. So passionate and knowledgeable about the history of Rome and our small group were hooked on every word.
Amanda was keen to really immerse us in the old days and gave some amusing things to think about and when she was talking about a baddie - she put on a husky funny voice! It was a long tour but for sure well worth it. Comfy walking shoes needed but Amanda ensured we had places to stop to rest whilst she continued to delight us with her knowledge.

If you love Rome like we do this tour is a must and well worth the money and ask for Amanda is my recommendation. We event went to a local eatery where it was a reasonable price and lovely atmosphere and we asked her to join us as her day had finished.

Picked a few photos but there were hundreds !!

We took a guided tour in english with our outstanding guide Magda the best tour I have ever been on everything was very informative.

The tour took around 3 hours but was worth it getting to know the history of the Colosseum from a expert is something different than being there yourself and the extra costs are 100% worth it.

I would highly recommend people to take the tour you don’t need to stay in line and the history becomes more alive with a super guide the only thing which is important is to bring a water bottle in the warm high season.

There are places on the tour you can fill up your bottle for free inside and outside the Colosseum imagine to stand there where great Gladiators once fought.

Our tour guide was fantastic. She was articulate and knowledgeable. However, this was advertised as a small tour with a 15 person max. Our group had over 30 people. We were often fighting for views in already crowded spaces. It took a long time to get through ticket lines. Our guide had great illustrations in books that we eventually gave up on trying to see with such a large crowd. Really disappointing.

Our tour guide, Romina, was absolutely delightful. She walked us through the entire 3 hour experience and not only shared her vast knowledge of the sites, but made sure everyone was having a great time as well. Extra points for her ability to take pictures of everybody at the best spots. This was my families first time in Rome and this tour is definitely a favorite already. 10/10 would recommend to anybody looking to experience the colosseum and it’s surroundings.

Allessandro was our guide and she was amazing 👏. Not only was she tremendously informative she made the experience soooo much better by getting the group involved with her stories. Her passion for antiquities (professional archaeologist) was clear from the start and there was plenty of humour amongst all the learning. If you get her you won’t be disappointed.

The only bit this tour doesn’t include is the lower floor but I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything as you look down on this when walking around.

TIPS - although taking drinks is highly recommended for most of these walking tours you really need to be mindful of the lack of toilet facilities (the colosseum is an ancient building after all…). You get ONE chance during the tour on the way up palatine hill (just after colosseum bit) so plan accordingly.

We had a sunny October day and temperature was around 24c but if it’s raining there isn’t much cover (unlike Vatican tour when it does not matter so much about the weather). My advice if temperatures are anything around 20c plus would be to pack a disposable poncho or something similar as they don’t weigh much/small package unopened if not used.

Do not book this.
We were contacted at 10.30 the night before our booking to change the time.
All they are interested in is using a group booking to get people in through the gates. We paid €259 for a tour of the Collosseum, Palatine and Forum but were just herded through into the Forum and left on our own. The company admitted it was their mistake but have only refunded us €26.
This spoiled our trip as it is an amazing place.

Our tour guide did a poor job explaining history behind what we were seeing in logical order. It seemed like she was just spitting out facts with no relation to what we were seeing. She also heavily assumed we knew a lot of the history behind what we were seeing, which majority of the people on the tour did not. Additionally, the ear piece used was so bad that she kept cutting out and didn’t even care to address the issue despite people complaining.

The tour guide also didn’t seem to care about the people on the tour. She rushed through the tour, moving extremely fast through areas even though she knew we had quite of few older people in our group (70+ years old). Never did a head count, nothing. Just assumed everyone was there and kept going. At one point, she almost left behind an elderly British couple. Had it not been for other people in the tour telling her to wait, they would have been left behind.

Overall, this tour left a lot to be desired. The guide did a really poor job of getting people interested in what they were seeing, and clearly did not care at all about the fact people were not enjoying the tour. In fact, 50% or more of the people on the tour handed their equipment back and left the tour early. That alone should tell you all you need to know.

The Colosseum is a must see in Rome. We bought group tickets including access to the Arena floor, all with the skip-the-lines access with our group. Our tour guide Alessandra was a great story teller and had incredible audience participation skills. The tour was longer than expected as she said we were on "Italian time"; the details were great. We definitely learned a ton and had a great time.
