Our visit to the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica was a truly magical and unique experience. We are so happy we got a tour and even happier that Carlotta was our guide. From the beginning of the tour, she was a delight with a great sense of humor. She is also extremely knowledgeable and confident in the information she provides. Without her guidance, we would’ve been lost since there is so much to see. She guided us through the rooms and seamlessly related the pieces together and wove an engaging story. She also did a great job presenting the history of Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel so that by the time we arrived at the Sistine Chapel, we had the background to appreciate Michelangelo’s huge accomplishment.
You can tell she is really passionate about what she teaches and we are thankful for her expertise. I really recommend that if you are visiting the Vatican, you book a tour to help guide you through all the rooms and explain the historical context of everything.

Prior to our first visit to Rome, we booked our semi private guided tour tickets of the Vatican in advance. There were so many to choose from it was a bit of a stab in the dark but What A Life Tours did not disappoint, couldn’t recommend them enough!! Arriving at the meeting point we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes and once the rest of our group arrived (just 3 other people) we set off on our Vatican adventure with Marco. Marco is Roman born and bred and is full of knowledge not only of the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peters Basilica but of the city in general. He is clearly extremely passionate about what he does and we were hooked on his every word from from the very start right to the end. Marco is so engaging and managed to keep all members of the group gripped, from 2 children to 3 adults! He brought humour to the tour, he was willing to answer all our questions, he went above and beyond and brought us what felt like the true VIP treatment. 100% amazing value for money, could not recommend enough and have been on a high after this tour ever since!! Thank you What A Life Tours & Marco!

What a day we had yesterday with What a Life Tours going round the Vatican Basilica, the Museums and the Sistine Chapel. If you want to do this trio, then in our opinion, you simply have to take a guide in order to get round in an organised and efficient way, but also to receive valuable insights into what you are seeing. The queue for the Vatican is also very long indeed and the guide allows you to skip all the waiting and is very much worth the money when you have 4 people including teenagers. All of the Vatican sights are amazing, Elaine our guide was so knowledgeable about the Basilica that it made this part of the tour particularly informative. The huge scale of the monument is such a reality check when you get inside. The whole tour just builds and builds as you enter the Vatican museums, each one completely spell binding. The map rooms and the Raphael rooms are breath taking in their decoration, art and thematic depictions. Our guide Elaine made the whole 4 hour tour very enjoyable and entertaining with her knowledge and she also knew that your senses are taking in so much, that you also need some light hearted humour and jokes along the way. The whole tour finishes with the greatest man made thing I have ever seen in my life - the Sistine Chapel. If you have seen pictures of this before you go in, we’ll, nothing can prepare you for the enormous impact this masterpiece has on your soul. Just thinking about the individual, personal sacrifice Michelangelo made in order to deliver this to the world alters your perception of purpose. I am typical bloke who loves watching and playing sport, not given over to exaggeration etc. This experience was like an earthquake.

I took this tour September 6th, the tour was supposed to start at 9am so we can get ahead of the crowds in the morning, I was notified the day before that the tour was being delayed one hour to 10am, in my mind it defeated the purpose of booking an early morning tour to beat the crowds. The tour guide did a good job of explaining what we were looking at but missed many of the key items that I overheard other guides explaining to their groups. The museum tour of the Sistine chapel, maps, and tapestries was at capacity with spectators, we were shoulder to shoulder in the crowd, with way too many people to really enjoy what you are looking at. Tour rushed through many of the rooms, too quick to really appreciate what you are looking at. All in all, I would recommend coming in the off months and booking an earlier time or later afternoon time to avoid the crowds so you can really enjoy the beauty of the various museums.

The places we visited on the tour were amazing to look at and we would definitely recommend visiting all three (vatican museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Basilica), but we felt the tour was very rushed. Our tour guide (Laura) rushed ahead a lot and spoke very quickly, so it was hard to understand all the history behind everything, which was a bit disappointing.
Be prepared for ques and very big crowds, you don't get much chance to view things.

I booked the small group tour so that my wife and I would have a more intimate tour with less people. It cost us $164.04 USD for the both of us. We were paired with our tour guide Elaine. She was wonderful. She definitely had a lot of knowledge to share with us. Where our tour went bad was right after finishing the Sistine Chapel. We walked a bit to the entrance of St. Peter's Basilica. There was a fountain where we could fill our water bottles to which Elaine indicated we could fill up. We waited in line to fill up and when my wife and I were finished, we looked around, and couldn't find our group. We looked around the area, and couldn't find them. We decided to search even further so one of us stayed back in the hopes that Elaine would come back and find us. Our search came up short. Our last effort was to message the company to let them know. I had two different ways to contact them, but we didn't receive a response until 40 minutes later. We waited at the water fountain for a total of 30 minutes before deciding to call it quits. We walked to the Company's office to let them know what happened. The gentleman there offered me a $20 refund. I was a bit disappointed because we had paid quite a bit for the tour. He then proceeds to tell me that Elaine had been looking for us even though we stayed at the place she lost us. The gentleman then gives me a $50 refund which is better than $20, but I intimately would've preferred to have had my tour. I don't understand how someone gets forgotten in a "Small Group Tour."

We had a long holiday weekend in Rome and booked primarily to expedite the lines but the tour far surpassed our expectations and I would highly recommend anyone traveling here for the first time use an experienced guide. Elaine was brilliant and her knowledge and passion for the city's art and history was genuine and enthusiastic. In the three days we've been here we've fallen in love with Rome and Elaine helped us appreciate the richness of it's history and why it's a city I will want to revisit again and again.

Highly recommend getting this tour guided as we learned so much from our guide! Very informative and a well planned tour when there is so much to see. It really nice having a streamlined experience of a crowded place like the Vatican, our guide executed our visit perfectly! He knew what to highlight and when to hit each place. Highly recommend getting a skip the line pass too for the Vatican Museums - well worth it to breeze right in. Although you have to wait in the normal line for St Peter’s, it’s not too bad. Just go as early in the morning as you can. Don’t skimp, get the guide!

Selected tour for max of 12 people. Elaine was our guide and all started well. Was knowledgeable but at times tried being a comedian with a rehearsed script to get laughs.

Granted there were thousands of people on tours today but still the responsibility not to lose their clients considering there were only 12 of us. One hour into your my wife, myself and two other adult ladies were separated from the group. We hadn’t wandered off but just seperate did and never to be found by our guide the rest of the trip. Elaine should pay more attention and less time trying to be a comedian.

On a positive note we stopped another guide named Manuela from the same tour company. Explained our situation and she had us join her group. She was smart, knowledgeable and kept a close eye on her entire group including us. She couldn’t have been nicer .

Recommend trying yo get Manuela and forget Elaine just like she forgot the four of us,

We found the start location quite easily at a local café, our guide was very friendly and was considerate to get us to Saint Peters earlier than the crowd so we could have a look around in relative peace. Then we were given the audio tour and onto The Sistine chapel via the museum, this was very crowded and very hot this time of year but our guide made it as comfortable as possible. Would recommend this Tour, ideally at a cooler time of year.
