Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Volcanic ash typically buried inhabitants who did not escape the lethal effects of the earthquake and eruption.

Amazing tour by Fabio from Carrani Tours
My friends and I did the Vatican Tour in English with Fabio from Carrani Tour. It was an excellent tour. Fabio gave us a lot of info from the art and history of the Vatican. Definitely would recommend

No signs on how to find the bus. Do not use this Hop On in Rome!
I missed this experience and I am very unhappy. No signage. No maps. I was at the Vatican and not able to find the bus. I would like a full refund. I would not use this bus!

Educational and a very focused tour.
Our Tour guide Roberta was very knowledgeable, energetic and engaging with a wonderful sense of humour which kept us all engaged. The highlight of the day for me was when Roberta highlighted the portrait of Christ’s gaze never leaving the viewer, it was very compelling art.

Must see for anyone visiting rome
Did a lovely tour of the colloseum with plenty of information and knowledge of the history then went onto palentine Hill and made our way into the roman forum, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and learnt alot about roman history which made experiencing these beautiful places a little better Definitely recommend anyone who's coming to Rome to book a tour they will not only teach you alot about the places along with historical recreations but give you that time to take photos and take in the beauty of each site

        Bus tour
Nice tour around Rome - only annoying thing is that the bus stopped for quite long times at some of the stops.. waiting outside the train station for ten minutes and then another ten minutes at the coliseum

        Professional but friendly
The tour had a clear theme. By thoroughly explaining the historical context and techniques of artistic expression, it felt like a magnifying glass and spotlight, bringing into focus the unique aspects of artistic creation during that period. Yet, I just wish she could be more friendly when communicating.

After a long day it is OK
There's a lot of competition for open bus tours in Rome, this one was advertised in a less pushy manner and with tickets online which is why we chose it. My friend and I chose the one trip around after a long day of walking. This was through TripAdvisor, the tour lasts just under 2hrs I think from memory. The bus stops are slightly out of sync as they are online but we were in the general area so able to find them OK. The tour itself is audio through headphones they give you and informative, though there are a lot of stops which are a few minutes long each time. After a long day it was good but I don't know how I would feel about that at the start of my day. I enjoyed it at the time but wouldn't do it again. With that said I do not regret taking this bus and would recommend, I just don't know how the other buses do it and would be curious.

        Best way to explore
Best way to explore Rome and all its treasures. Bus intervals are roughly 10/20mins between each stop. I would highly recommend you do this the first day your in Rome, as it will help you get your barings. It's very cheap, for the both of us it was €34. The bus commentary was very good, enthusiastic and headphones were provided.

Skip the line tour of Vatican museums, Sistine chapel, and St Peter’s basilica.
Our tour guide, Myra, was knowledgeable without overwhelming us with information. Very engaging. Really good value for money. We felt like we’d gotten a digestible amount of all the sites.

A great tour, well worth the price
Having a guide, especially a local one with plenty of knowledge of the places visited, is essential to get the most out of the visit. On a practical side, it's great being able to avoid the long queues for unaccompanied visitors. We were lucky to be in a small group of 5 (there can of course be more in a group) and to have Letizia as our guide: she gave us plenty of information, but avoided information overload. She was also very willing to answer questions. It would however be preferable to do separate tours of the Colosseum and the Roman forum - in the latter there is so much to see that you could easily spend half a day there. Grazie mille Letizia per il suo professionalismo et la sua gentilezza! Kevin, Valérie et Emma, di Parigi.

The tour was ok. Picked up near Termini Station at 0730 (not from central hotel as advertised), stop about 9am for coffee & bagno I break, then to Napoli for tour of central city historic exterior buildings, then to Pompei for pre-ordered lunch (salad, pizza, drink, desert), then to a studio where they displayed artists making/carving jewelry and an expectation that we would buy something (expensive, unexpected, and not what we signed up for). Then finally, the 2 hour tour of some of the Pompei ruins, and a promise that we would have free time to explore on our own. The free time was just enough time to use a bagno and return to the meeting place for departure back to Rome. We arrived back to Rome around 7pm. So, for a 12 hr trip to Pompei we had 2 hours in Pompei.
WORST and most disturbing, as Covid cases are n the rise, the van driver and the tour guide only wore their masks on their mouths but did not cover their noses ever.

Took this tour with a hotel pick up with Civitatis and on the whole it was very good.

The pick-up was by taxi from the hotel reception which took us to a rallying point to meet the coach which was modern clean, air conditioned and comfortable.

The tour included a tour through Naples with a photo stop. This can for sure be dropped from the itinerary as Naples has no saving graces and is not in the least picturesque or interesting and simply stole valuable touring time when we eventually got to Pompeii.

The comfort stop was well timed and the service station was very good (used the same one on the way back which was great).

The lunch stop was rushed and of average quality. The experience would have been enhanced by skipping the lunch and providing a packed lunch (from the service stop) to be eaten on the bus on the way.

The craft stop at Pompeii was mildly interesting but a serious tourist trap that can also be dropped in favour of more time around Pompeii.

The guides were excellent especially the lady who took us through the detail of Pompeii (though she was rather forceful to the point of rudeness to other visitors not from our group who got in her way)!

Her knowledge was encyclopaedic, and she put the information across in a way that was clear and easy to understand. The issue with the actual Pompeii visit was simply a lack of time.

The day started at 06:30 and ended at the drop off point at 19:00 (there is no taxi return after the coach drop off) and despite this huge time investment, only 2 hours was spent actually at Pompeii.

Drop the detour through Naples, change lunch to a packed lunch from the services and skip the tourist trap to free up valuable time to do Pompeii and the excellent guide justice.

Dear customer, thank you for this detailed report, which other customers will certainly find useful! It is sincere, honest and truthful! We appreciate the feedback and it's been noted! We'll pass it for evaluation to our Product Department asap! For the sake of clarity, with this Naples and Pompeii one-day tour we aim to show our customers in a short time another important Italian region and other landscapes that differ a lot from those typical of Rome and its surroundings. The Pompeii part takes the customers to all the highlights of the archaeological site which can actually take days to explore in its entirety - most parts though are still closed or being excavated or only partially accessible by experts, archaeologists or archaeology buffs. A longer tour in the site would be unnecessarily tiring if not boring. Our two-hour visit is pleasant just because it is tailored on the average traveler's needs! Hope this helps! Best regards, Gray Line Rome

We had a tour that included a 30 min walking tour in Naples, with a local Italian cuisine lunch. Paula was our guide and although very knowledgeable was reluctant to interact and acknowledge the group. She did become better in Pompeii where this was clearly her passion however we were rushed through the museum part very quickly and did not get the time to really look around properly. She did take us through the most important parts of Pompeii town within 2 hours and had a lot of good knowledge about this. The tour guide on the coach was a lot more energetic and friendly.

We decided to do this tour instead of the Naples and Pompeii day tour from Rome in order to have more time at Pompeii. What we did not know was even though only the Pompeii tour was advertised on this listing, you still go to Naples for the tour. I believe this tour company adds all the tour groups to the same group to fill up a bus (?). At Pompeii you have only 2 hours for a guided tour. We started the day at 7:30am and arrived in Pompeii at 2pm and was told to meet at the entrance at 4pm to depart. Overall the tour guides did a great job and if we signed up for both the Naples and Pompeii tour it would have been 5 stars. Unfortunately the tour we signed up for did not mention Naples and our best option would have been to travel on our own to save time and to visit other sites since this was an all day excursion and took away from the main purpose of this booking.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us about the Pompeii day trip from Rome. We appreciate your detailed review and we're glad to hear that you found the tour guides to be great. We're sorry for any confusion regarding the itinerary and the inclusion of Naples in the tour. We strive to provide clear information about our tours, and your feedback is valuable in helping us improve our communication. As a matter of fact though the tour description does mention a visit to Naples before lunch with s panoramic stop for a photo moment. This is true of all the platforms we sell our tours on (we conduct regular content checks). But we understand your perspective about wanting more time at Pompeii. We'll take your comments into consideration to ensure that future travelers have a better understanding of the tour's itinerary and can make informed decisions about their experiences. We value your input, and we hope that despite this issue, you were able to enjoy the guided tour of Pompeii. If you have any further concerns or if there's anything else we can do to assist you, please feel free to reach out. Best regards, Gray Line Rome

This was an amazing place to visit, but we didn’t realise before we arrived that the accessible structures were closed at 6pm, though the park didn’t close til 7pm. My partner said there was signage at the structures saying they closed at 6.20 but they were locked up by 6pm. There was no information in the online guide or printed one about the time restriction.
We arrived at 5pm as part of a tour group, which was much later than planned because the tour itinerary had 2 tours jammed into one which meant we had our late arrival at Pompeii. There was an advantage to this, in that there was no line to buy tickets and very few people inside so some photos showed empty streets in a late afternoon light.
The disadvantage was the early closure of houses to access and by 7pm it was getting pretty dark. The toilets and shop all closed before 7.
If you don’t want to be forensic about what happened there, 2 hours is enough if you’re going as part of a tour group. You won’t see everything though.
If you do want to investigate a lot further, take yourself there for the day and prepare for trips on the Naples train network….
For me, the best time to arrive would have been 4pm, not so many people and time to see things before they closed.
      Was it worth it? Absolutely….

Dear customer, thank you for sharing your experience visiting Pompeii. We appreciate your detailed feedback, and we're glad to hear that despite the challenges, you found the visit worthwhile. We regret the inconvenience you faced due to the early closure of accessible structures, which was not properly communicated in the online guide or on-site. We understand the importance of clear information, and we will certainly take your feedback into consideration to improve our communication with visitors. It's great to hear that arriving later in the day allowed you to capture some unique photographs in the late afternoon light and avoid the crowds at the ticket counters. We acknowledge your suggestion to arrive around 4 pm for a more relaxed experience. We hope that despite the challenges, you were able to appreciate the historical significance and beauty of Pompeii. Thank you for choosing to explore this remarkable site with us. If you ever decide to visit again, we would be delighted to welcome you back and ensure a smoother and more informative experience. Warm regards, Gray Line Rome

Spent so little time in Naples, it's really just a trip to Pompeii. Save time and money by taking train. Definitely not worth it, most of the time was in training, and 1 hour was spent at a Cafe so they could sell you drinks

Dear customer, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We appreciate your feedback and would like to address your concerns about our Pompeii tour from Rome. We understand that your time in Naples felt limited, and it seems that most of it was spent on transportation and at a café. We apologize if this left you feeling unsatisfied with your overall experience. It's important to note that Naples is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage, beautiful architecture, and delicious cuisine. While a visit to Pompeii is undoubtedly a popular attraction, we encourage you to explore more of what Naples has to offer on a dedicated tour - 12 hours isn't enough to visit booth Naples and Pompeii in full. Our aim is to just give you a smattering of Neapolitan and Pompeiian history in one day on a fully-organizaed and escorted trip from Rome. Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team

First let me say that the Pompeii portion of this tour was excellent. Our tour guide excellently managed a combined English/Spanish tour (more on that) and gave unique and interesting facts. To be fair, seeing Pompeii most definitely would take more time than we had, but that said, with the few hours we did have, we covered a lot of ground. The lunch was great--pizza and salad and dessert and wine before we did the Pompeii tour at a lovely restaurant. Also, the quick coffee stops there and back were, while not needed, a nice stop.

Some surprises were that our tour was actually not just with English speakers, but with Spanish speakers as well. We actually began to wonder as we waited on the bus if we had chosen the wrong tour. I'm sure this is because of cost, but it would have been nice to know that this was a possibility. Again, all the way around, from our bus guide and Pompeii/Naples guide, this was not an issue. Like others we did not enjoy the Naples portion as it seemed unnecessary and we saw about 3 things in an hour. Yes, the things we saw were fine, but I'd much rather have spent that time in Pompeii. Also, upon arrival in Pompeii we were brought into a cameo factory which was very odd and clearly just so people would buy things. This seemed really out of place but perhaps because the company uses this as a meeting place, they are required to feed us all into this place? This was a bit off-putting.
Overall, we really enjoyed the tour. Some minor tweaks would make it 5 star. Definitely go to Pompeii!!

Dear Lucy, thanks a lot for booking the tour to Pompeii with us and for your TripAdvisor contribution. As you see, we care about what people say and take your feedback into account. We're glad you enjoyed your day all in all: we promise to make the possibility of a bilingual approach more clear but, to be honest, it doesn't happen that often after all - as you say, it's a necessity when we only have one bus departing from Rome. The purpose of this trip was to immerse ourselves in the tragedy of Pompeii. With this outcome in mind, the tour was very very disappointing. We only arrived in Pompeii after 2pm, having spent far too much time stopping along the way which included a very arbitrary pizza and a Danish beer at a restaurant with no ambience, too much time wasted in a shell-decorating factory that was never part of the disclosed plan and though the stops in Naples were interesting, it wasn’t what we were there for. Ultimately we had 2 hours in Pompeii which was such a rush. On arrival at the ruins, we were not given any overview as to what we were seeing, we had no map and were literally running between stops. Our guide may have been really very knowledgable but spoke really fast, was difficult to follow and catch his accent and was annoyed when interrupted. We had hardly any time to take it in ourselves. Next time (which, sadly may never be) I would organise the following, buy an early fast train ticket from Rome, get bus to Pompeii, arrange a tour guide at Pompeii, and then spend the rest of day on my own with the free map which we never received.
The most frustrating day on our 10 day trip in Italy.

Long but great day out, highly recommend for history lovers. We went at the beginning of May so it was not to hot but think we would have struggled in the heat of peak season. Our tour organiser, coach driver and where all very friendly and accommodating, we where taken to a local restaurant for lunch which was clean, modern and a high quality of food. Our tour guide that we met in Pompeii was very patient and knowledgeable.

Very long day but totally worth it. The tour of Pompeii was spectacular! It was so big that we couldn't cover all of the ruins but got to see many interesting structures. We heard about the history of the city, the volcano, and the people that lived and worked there. The guide was very knowledgeable. The tour of Naples before lunch wasn't very interesting, no history of the city. The lunch was better than I expected for pre paid large group. We got to select from 3 different pizzas, a salad and dessert was included. The pizza was pretty good.

Thank you very much, Patricia! We are happy you chose to go to Pompeii with us and you enjoyed your day in our company! It’s no walk in the park but Pompeii is a must-see! Our escorted tour includes a quick panoramic visit to Naples, lunch and thorough guided tour in the ruins with a professional local guide! Best regards, Gray Line Rome
