    What to Expect
Enjoy an in-depth tour of two of the top attractions near Madrid for one low price on this Super Saver tour combining two half-day excursions to El Escorial and Toledo. These two attractions, offering a wealth of insight into Spain's monarchy, medieval art and the country's Civil War, are a must for any history-loving visitor to Spain's capital city.

Start your day at 8:45am in Madrid near the Plaza de España, after which you'll spend your morning visiting El Escorial Monastery. This sprawling complex, built by King Philip II as a burial site for his parents, offers a wealth of beautiful architecture and art. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the Valley of the Fallen, a religious site built by Spanish general Francisco Franco into the side of a mountain and topped by an enormous cross. Those that have selected the lunch upgrade will stop at a traditional restaurant back in Madrid following the Valley of the Fallen visit.

Continue your excursion In the afternoon in Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed town with a wealth of beautiful architecture, art and churches. During your visit you'll have time to admire the paintings of famous Spanish painter El Greco, including his work "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz," along with the beautiful Cathedral of Toledo and the town's medieval-era castle. I was pleasantly surprised by this tour although it helped to have a professional guide take us and explain all aspects of the monastery and its history. To take in all that history was almost overwhelming at times but well worth the visit.
