You’ll begin your tour with the best part of any meal – dessert! Your expert guide will share the origins of chocolate and its role in Spanish history. Did you know that once it was introduced to the country in the 1500s, chocolate quickly became so popular that upper-class women petitioned to have it offered during church services? Your guide will share this and other fun facts as you walk through Barcelona’s oldest neighborhood, including the chocolate production process. You’ll even be able to challenge your palate with a blindfolded taste test!
After getting your sweet fix, you’ll continue your guided tour through the picturesque cobbled streets before settling in for a special wine tasting. You’ll have the opportunity to taste three different wines from Spain’s 2.9 million acres of vineyards, along with a pairing of cheese or cured meats. As you enjoy the spread, your guide will share Spain’s wine regions and classification system.
After the wine tasting, the tour continues through the medieval architecture of the Gothic Quarter. Your guide will stop to show you and tell the stories of narrow passageways and hidden squares, including a church built in just 55 years in the 1300s. Then, it’s on to the olive oil tasting!
As the world’s largest producer of the product, Spanish olive oil comes in many varieties of tastes, colors and textures. Sit back and relax as your guide explains the olive oil production process, including the different types of olives used and the regions they come from, as your tour concludes with an exclusive tasting of local olive oils.
