Overview
The most surprising open-air museum in Paris, aka the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, is home to 70,000 graves and 5,300 trees in 44 hectares of landscaped beauty. Your expert guide will lead a small group (15 guests maximum) down the cobbled paths of this enchanted hill, world-renowned for its funerary art and as the final resting place for many great men and women from the world of art, music, literature and history. The necro-romantic safari, a tradition for generations of Parisians, is certified by the Paris Visitors Bureau and takes you on a trip with the time machine where the great celebrities of the past come alive. See the picturesque tombs of Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Molière, Chopin, Isadora Duncan, Gertrude Stein, Héloise and Abélard and many many others. Your licensed guide will provide a narrative of energy and passion, balancing humor with historical accuracy to share secrets and anecdotes about the legends of the past and present.

What to Expect
Greet your guide outside the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, and set off to explore this 110-acre (44-hectare) burial ground, Paris’ most celebrated, and home to about 70,000 ornate tombs. Your route follows a largely downhill walk through the cemetery, and you take useful shortcuts to cover the most interesting spots in less time. As it’s a small-group tour, your guide may be able to customize the route to accommodate individual requests. As you explore the tree-lined avenues, hear tales of the cemetery’s history and the illustrious and often tragic figures buried here. See graves such as those of Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Frédéric Chopin, and Jim Morrison; and view the tombs of historical figures such as the medieval lovers Heloise and Abelard, plus Moliere, Gertrude Stein, and many more. Your tour finishes at Porte du Repos, near local metro stops and a taxi stand.

Heard great stories about the history of people residing in Pere Lachaise, and even of some of the folks who come to visit them! It’s a beautiful cemetery, the mausoleums are amazing in their architecture. Wonderful tour for learning some of the history of France.

I wasn't sure that a trip to Pere Lachaise Cemetery was the very best present for my friend's birthday, but this tours led by Avi was absolutely fantastic. He was well informed and gave us so much information, without ever patronising or veering into mock comedic stand-up

Avi - our guide - was excellent. He had great stories about the people - some famous, some not - and the place itself. When we reached Oscar Wilde’s tomb it started to rain - a lot - but Avi hardly missed a beat. Highly recommended. Especially liked paying respect at

Did a well priced (ie: low) 2hr tour of the cemetery and it was great. Going back by myself this week. Most tours visit all the same graves so I'd avoid paying some of those high costs
