Standing spectacularly among the shallow tidal marshes of the Normandy coast, Mont Saint-Michel has drawn pilgrims and visitors to its rocky shore for more than a millennium. Your own journey begins with morning pickup at your Paris hotel and an approximately 3-hour drive west in a comfortable minivan. Along the way, soak up the beauty of the French countryside and stop to stretch your legs and purchase any needed refreshments at a service station.
When you arrive at the coast, hop aboard a shuttle for transport to the Mont, built atop a lone granite rock in the middle of a vast tidal range. Begin with a guided tour of the Gothic abbey that sits perched on the highest point of the island and dates back to the early eighth century. Learn about the fascinating history of this sacred monastery, dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michel, and tour it's many components including the monks’ cloisters, the Knight's Room, the crypt, and various side chapels.
After visiting the abbey, enjoy leisure time for lunch (not included) and a stroll through the steep village streets and along the protective ramparts built to defend the island against invaders. Relax on the return drive to Paris, where the 13-hour tour concludes in the evening with drop-off back at your hotel.
