See Irish castles, caves and cloisters on the Kilkenny City and Glendalough Day Trip from Dublin. Traveling by luxury coach, you'll head into Ireland's south-east region - an area as historically interesting as it is beautiful. Visit Kilkenny Castle and the monastic settlement of Glendalough while gaining insight into Irish folklore and history from your guide. This tour will also include a stop at the Wicklow Mountains to see Border Collies corral sheep across the fields as of March 1.
  • Escape bustling Dublin for a day, with included transportation
  • Travel between Kilkenny, Glendalough, and Wicklow Mountains with ease
  • Guide commentary contextualizes each stop
  • Choose between free time and guided tours
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Dublin saves time with a door-to-door service
What to Expect
Begin your tour with convenient pickup at your Dublin hotel, where you’ll climb aboard a comfortable tour vehicle and set out into the Irish countryside. Enjoy the scenery and leave the driving to your guide on the way to Kilkenny Castle. Listen to your guide’s commentary on the history of the castle, built in the 12th century on the River Nore. Spend some free time exploring the chambers and the rose garden at your own pace, before heading out into the village of Kilkenny. Stroll the cobblestone streets, taking in sights of the monasteries, cathedrals, and Tudor-style houses. Meet up with your guide for a last stop at the 12th-century St. Francis Abbey Brewery before departing. Back on the bus, head over the picturesque Wicklow Gap into Wicklow Mountains National Park. Keep your camera at the ready and take advantage of the fact that someone else is driving, using that time to snap photos of the dreamy scenery instead. Stop at a local sheep farm to see border collies doing what they do best: herding sheep, a long-standing Irish tradition. Once you reach the glacial valley of Glendalough, take in sights of the glacial lakes and stop at the medieval monastery and tower. After an orientation from your guide, spend a while exploring independently before boarding the bus and returning to Dublin for drop-off.

My husband and I took the day trip with Cathy and Joe. We enjoyed the information given by Cathy and the great bus driving by Joe. Well worth the money and time. The sheep dog show was one of our favorites.
