Outlander Palaces and Jacobites Tour from Edinburgh

Overview

If you’re addicted to the saga of Claire and Jamie, no trip to Edinburgh would be complete without an Outlander location tour. Covering at least seven locations, including Black Jack’s headquarters, Wentworth Prison, and Lallybroch, this tour gets you right to the heart of Outlander’s world—complete with insider gossip and trivia from your local guide.

What to Expect

As soon as you board your vehicle in central Edinburgh, the stories begin: tales of the series, the stars, and the settings. First up is 16th-century Midhope Castle, aka Lallybroch, and then Blackness Castle, the fortress that doubles as Black Jack’s headquarters.

Next, stop in Linlithgow with its ruined palace where Mary Queen of Scots was born—and Jamie was imprisoned in Wentworth Prison. If you’d like, you can choose to explore Callendar House, where the Duke of Sandringham lost his head.

No Outlander location tour would be complete without visiting Culross, or Cranesmuir, a perfect example of how villages must have looked in 18th-century Scotland. Admire towering Mercat Cross, Culross Palace gardens, home to Claire’s herb garden, and, if time permits, the ancient Tuilyies Standing Stones.

Your last stop before you return to Edinburgh is 17th-century Hopetoun House, the residence of the Duke of Sandringham on the show.
