About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- DaveW6350 contributionsA wonderful relaxing experienceWe had an absolutely fantastic time on our Afternoon tea river cruise on the Thames. Our guide was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable about explaining sights along our journey. The tea itself is presented in a hamper, plentiful, all freshly made - even the scones were still warm! So glad we booked and would thoroughly recommend this trip.Written 26 December 2024
- fionacook550 contributionsAwesome experienceIt was just amazing, with awesome views. So relaxing. The guide was wonderful. The afternoontea was delicious. Just the best trip.Written 12 December 2024
- Slight-Fade0 contributionsA Most Enjoyable And Relaxing TripThe boat for our trip was at full capacity of twelve customers plus the skipper / commentator but everyone had enough room. It was a very pleasant trip along the Thames ( Isis ) including the regatta part of the river and then past meadows. The commentary on the way down to Iffley Lock where we could get off and stretch our legs. On the way back there was little from the skipper other than to answer questions. Music was played instead. It was a most enjoyable and relaxing trip.Written 21 November 2024
- RICHARD D0 contributionsAutumnal CruiseWe had the boat to ourselves as no one else had booked. Enjoyed the cruise and running commentary whilst eating the afternoon tea.Written 6 November 2024
- JaneLB440 contributionsGlorious and relaxing cruise down the riverLovely little jaunt down the Regatta Course with family of all ages - Many thanks to Ash for being such a brilliant captain and his refreshingly honest and informative chat - Would highly recommend!Written 4 November 2024
- KelsSA290 contributionsWaste of time.I can't review the actual boat experience because the skipper left without us, despite us getting there early and waiting in the bar area of the restaurant as we were told to do so. The time was passing and we were told by several other members of staff that we would be collected soon. We waited 45 minutes then went back up stairs to ask why there was such a long delay to be told the skipper left without us. We were offered to go on another boat 4 hours later but we had our day planned out as we came from far to visit Oxford. We asked for a refund and we were given one free drink from the bar but unfortunately this didnt make up for missing the boat experience and wasting our time.Written 3 November 2024
- Quest236713924950 contributionsAPPAULING EXPERIENCEWe booked a boat trip for 10 of us on the 28th September 2024 ..it was Cancelled 24 hours before . And we had to make very last mintite Re arrangements.. There was no Empathy shown .. no offer of a Table at tge Folly which has been made worse knowing from reviews that others where offered great deals when their trips where cancelled . No gesture of good will ...Rude emails send .. and 9 days for a refund . We have been treated terribly and for some reason not given the same respect others clearly have when their boat trip cancelled . Which makes thos whole experience far far worse .Written 14 October 2024
- Vacationer7275310 contributionsOxford from the river with afternoon tea!Peaceful, informative river cruise with lots of detail about Oxford rowing and history of the area and narrowboats, in a low boat sheltered from the rain with clear shades, with an expert, friendly skipper. Pretty, tasty afternoon tea.Written 9 October 2024
- Voyage680520246350 contributionsA great adventure on the riverA great adventure on the river even stopped off to enjoy a pub off the river bank, an interesting trip showing some of the history and interesting facts. We went off piste a few time which was great, our host was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was lovely, great scones... highly recommended.Written 28 September 2024
- K6530ISedb0 contributionsRiver cruise but no OxfordCruise is nice but does not show you Oxford, only part of the river with boats and sheds for rowing boats. Make sure that you take enough time to get there as there is no parking close to the pick up pointWritten 25 September 2024

- scotlandwithlove0 contributionsA wonderful relaxing timeThis was my favourite thing I did in Oxford! We got super lucky with the weather and had a blissful experience. Our skipper was great, let us all sit quietly and soak up the views while answering any questions and offering interesting information. Listening to the water while sipping a drink was lovely. I felt unbelievably relaxed afterwards.Written 15 September 2024
- katem8kate0 contributionsWonderful experience. Highly recommend!I booked an afternoon tea river cruise as a surprise for a friend’s 50th birthday and what a fantastic time we all had!! The boat was beautifully laid out and the afternoon tea was delicious. Our driver was lovely and couldn’t fault the service we received from him. (We accidentally forgot to leave him a tip though which I do apologise for because he absolutely deserved one!). I would highly recommend this experience.Written 15 September 2024
- lizhI897BM0 contributionsExcellent sconesClayton House is excellent with a superb cafe, the volunteers are informative, knowledgeable and fun. But the scones in the cafe take the prize, oh my goodness every bite was heaven. I asked the chef for his recipe but it was untranslatable into lbs. and oz. So another visit is essential.Written 15 September 2024

We were a group of 7 ladies who were on a weekend trip to England and found out that we were going to visit Oxford, as well as take a river cruise here. We were well received on arrival, but had probably misunderstood a little when we thought that the dinner would be on the boat itself and not in a restaurant after the cruise, so this was a slight disappointment.
After being welcomed, we were shown to our table where we had to decide what kind of food we wanted in advance so that it would be ready when we got back, which was a very good solution. We then ordered our welcome drink and went down to the boat. There we were met by a very nice guide, who gave us our drinks and a blanket if desired. He was great fun to listen to and took good care of us. The cruise itself was also a little different than we had imagined, as we are used to city cruises where you see the biggest sights. On this trip we were shown a few places on the canal, but most of the cruise consisted of watching the various university rowers out in the water training, as well as their associated clubhouses. This was fun in itself, but not quite what we had envisioned.
The food at the restaurant was very good, but the waiters we had probably have a little to gain when it comes to being attentive to their customers.

We decided on the ‘cruise and dine’ option as an 80th birthday treat for my mother, 6 of us (2 in 80’s and 4 late 40’s / early 50’s).
The boat trip was around 30 minutes and the captain (Tom I think) was friendly and welcoming, and had some good info on the various college boat houses that the tour passes.
We then went for a 3 course meal at The Folly - which was fantastic. The servers were attentive and all 6 of us very much enjoyed every course that we ordered.
Not a cheap option however in our opinion it was well worth it - highly recommend!

Booked this for our 40th wedding anniversary as we met in Oxford, and came with our grown up children and their spouses in the expectation of a sunny July evening cruise and terrific food. The weather, perhaps unsurprisingly, had other plans but despite this we had a great trip with our knowledgeable and entertaining skipper Paul who kept the covers on and provided us with very effective rugs. A short trip up to Donnington Bridge and back with prosecco or a non-alcoholic alternative.
We chose our first two courses before the cruise while seated at the very pleasant river view table. Serving staff were welcoming and efficient. The starters arrived promptly and were interesting and delicious, especially when combined with the somewhat pricey but lovely paired wines. Vegetarian and dairy free alternatives were provided on request. Main courses were equally excellent. The dessert offerings were so tempting and some of the best we've had! The staff contributed to the experience with there warmth and friendliness.
All in all a lovely experience, thank you very much, we will be back!

One of the highlights of our visit to Oxford. First of all the river trip is very informative and provides a view of Oxford that can only be seen from the river (of course). More than this though, it shows a side of college life that most people only experience once a year on their TVs when the boat race takes place. On our cruise we were constantly being passed, with just a few feet to spare, by many college rowing teams both male and female. These can often reach speeds of over 15 mph. From this to the idyllic waterways that meander through the meadows and then back to the restaurant. To be honest the 3 course meal is excellent and the quality, service and presentation is superb. We could not fault it. The ambience is fabulous especially as dusk settles. To me the whole experience was actually very good value and I think those people who provide negative reviews do not appreciate the quality of food and skill involved in creating the dishes that are served in the Folly Restaurant. This was a fabulous event and cheap at the price.

An all round excellent experience.
We missed our cruise time due to delayed transport
and were re-booked on the next boat without a hitch. All staff were so welcoming and service was faultless.
Becky our skipper was knowledgeable and friendly and
we enjoyed chatting to her. This is a very peaceful and
relaxing way to enjoy the river topped off by a high
quality 3 course meal in the restaurant besides
the river.
Highly recommend.

Despite the rain, our Cruise & Dine experience was serene and quite enjoyable thanks to our fantastic guide, Paul. The food was excellent, but the service was inattentive. We recommend ordering before the cruise (which all groups other than ours had been prompted to do but we were not given the option) or being very assertive throughout the dining experience.

Charming boat trip! Shorter than expected (35mins only!) but charming and engaging “pilot” (thanks Wil!!😜) Food in restaurant was well above expected. Superbly presented, fabulously tasty and highly recommended. Not clear on booking what the timings were!! Turns out the time you chose is not the time you eat!! It’s the boat trip time!! We chose “8pm” Boat trip 8pm and table was at 8.45pm!! A little disorganised in management and waitress couldn’t explain anything about the wonderful food which needs improvement. Overall very happy and felt it was excellent value for money. Recommend to all! (with these provisos in mind!)

Will was a top notch skipper with a wonderful demeanor to the guests. The River tour was about a 40 min return trip where you get off to eat at The Folly restaurant. DELICIOUS food and options in a lovely place.

We had a great time on our cruise. Our host was great - enthusiastic and engaging, and knowledgeable of her history and information. The boat was fun, and the dinner was great. The restaurant was right on the river, with charming atmosphere. We ordered before the boat tour, from the entire menu (not limited by the tour cost). Our table was held for us, and then we enjoyed our meal upon return. It was a breat night.

Visiting Oxford for the first time. Took the river cruise before dinner. The weather this week is amazing (low 70s and sunny) so the river cruise was really nice. Our captain grew up in Oxford so he was knowledgable and was able to give us interesting local history and perspective. Dinner after was really lovely. Delicious food and really good wine pairing suggestions. Ate outside due to the weather (the tables are set up so one side is facing the sun, so if it's a sunny day bring sunglasses this time of year as the sun stays up a while which was fine with us). The staff is friendly and responsive. The view is really nice. Truly a magnificent experience.

Is this open on Friday 27th November? We were so excited to book it for our weekend away in November but then were disheartened to see that we could only book 6 months from now?
Thanks.
