- Tezzybear0 contributionsWinter WonderlandWhile the Lakes are wonderful to visit in summer, the crisp winter air and falling snow gave the region additional beauty and majesty. Tim was a fantastic guide, adapting the tour based on the weather, and providing fascinating insights on any and all topics. This is a must do activity when in the region. Can't wait to go back and explore the rest soon.Written 13 January 2025

- annyach0 contributionsThe art of Brontës doth come to life on this tour‘Twas a day steeped in the legacy of the most illustrious literary family of England. We didst traverse the oppressive realms of industrial society, fraught with class divisions—the squalor, the inequity, and the harsh realities for women artistes. Yet, this hardship hath found a counterbalance in the elemental expanse of the moors, where the muse of art may unfurl her wings in unbounded liberty. The fervent affection the Brontë sisters hath shared doth their narratives illuminate, and their indomitable spirit shall a testament be to the triumph of art over the adversities that doth beset their existence. Our guides, the amiable Sandra and the erudite Gillian, hath given us a truly memorable experience, their captivating tales leaving an indelible mark upon our imaginations. We shall eagerly anticipate a return to display our dancing prowess in a Kate Bush dance upon the moors; we doth express our sincere gratitude for this day!Written 28 October 2024

- RetireAndRejoice0 contributionsBest Way to See the Lake District! This was the perfect way to see the Lakes District! We loved being picked up and returned to our hotel on Lake Windermere. Gillian and Sandra were our talented, engaging guide and driver (respectively). Gillian was knowledgeable, entertaining and shared amazing information and stories about the area and local legends. Sandra was an incredible driver, especially on narrow roads on a rainy day. They gave us plenty of time for taking pictures and rest stops. We would do this tour again in a heartbeat. We highly recommend it!Written 19 October 2024
- danielhN9862QH0 contributionsMagic in the Lake District with Beatrix Pitter.A truly magical tour which brings Beatrix Pottet to life. Tim is an excellent guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable. His showing us Potter's watercolors in her books was a stunning addition. He showed us the inspiration of each painting with the real life scene. The half day went by way too fast. I could have spent a whole day on this tour.Written 14 October 2024
- JimB0bH0 contributionsPerfect Day!What a tremendous day! We love ACGAS and dreamed of seeing the places it’s been filmed. We saw Pumphrey Manor; the crossroads where James first arrived and meets Helen; the church where Helen calls it off with Hugh; the bridge where James and Hugh struggle to decide who will back up and let the other through; the main town used for Darrowby (including the front Skeldale house, the Drovers Arms, the green grocers); the village green where James meets the bus when his parents arrive for the wedding;the Falcon Inn, where his parents stay; the back of Skeldale house; the exterior and interior of the churches used for James and Helen’s wedding; and the Alderson’s farm; and had a delightful lunch at the pub used for one of the interiors of the Drovers Arms. It was truly a delightful way to see the Yorkshire Dales come alive through and outside of the lens of the show! Our guide, Tim, was excellent! He has really taken the time to study up on the show and the real-life James Herriot (Alf White), enjoys the show as much as his guests, and was just a delight to spend the day with asking about the Dales then and now. The pace was leisurely and he let us take as many pictures was we wanted and explore as long as we wanted (obviously keeping us to the schedule). At each stop, he also shows us scene where the location was used, indicating directions and things to notice about the scene and the reality. He also spent time tell on us about the history or other unique characteristics of the places we visited. It was just the best day! We loved it and would recommend the tour to anyone who is a fan of the show or just wants to see the Dales in a unique way.Written 13 October 2024
- danielhN9862QH0 contributionsMagical tour not to be missed! My wife and I along with a friend joined another couple on this tour with guide Tim. Absolutely superb. Tim is beyond knowkedese---witty, clever, full of stories and anecdotes. Visited every possible filming site from All Creatures Great and Small. Lunch was excellent at Craven Arms ("Darrowby"). From Alderson farm to the church where James and Helen married to Skeldale House. The entire day was magical. The Yorkshire Dales are magnificent. Tim was the perfect guide. Out of five stars, I give Tim and this tour EIGHT!Written 13 October 2024

Guide was very knowledgeable and taught us about a unique way to count sheep using fingers stones and unusual words. Great weather meant that I could get stunning panoramic photos from excellent viewpoints. Whilst I did enjoy these things I think that 4 hours (2 would have been fine) was a bit much for me but overall a great experience. We managed to get gingerbread from that shop. The tour guide really did his best knew the area spoke about what he knew was a great source of hidden facts. Badger pub with feeding session in the evenings all made it a great afternoon. We even managed to change our drop off point back to the station we came from -Windermere. We got to see a circle of stones that was a 5,000 year old European trading post which was pretty interesting. I Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn about the history of the area and lakes and the lake District. Wife was very happy so I am happy with that! There was a very good level of communication with the tour guide who was easy to speak to and open. Managed a comfort break but needed a contactless card to pay for that. Time was well managed by the guide. Vehicle was clean and well kept. Charging points for the mobile phones was brilliant and we'll managed enough for each of the people to charge their own device even when the vehicle was parked. So we ended up with 100% battery at the end of a long afternoon!

We’d booked the afternoon 8 lakes tour for our last day in the Lake District as we wanted the opportunity to see a bit more than just Windermere/bowness and Ambleside and it was the best thing we did!
Our tour guide Tim was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We were very lucky to have the tour to ourselves (so essentially ended up getting a private tour experience!)
Tim answered all our questions and took us to various places of interest where we were able to get out of the minibus and have a look around.
Our favourite spot on the tour was the beautiful view over Derwentwater.
This tour was well worth the money and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting the lakes.

The whole experience was magical in every way. The views were magnificent and the guide was so informative and knowledgeable. Anything you asked, she knew, and kept us entertained with interesting tales and legends whilst surveying breathtaking beauty. The driver was also friendly, and safe and sound on the roads, which were tricky to navigate, but she made it look like a piece of cake. An excellent trip. Many thanks

Had a wonderful time on the 8 Lakes tour, with Gillian and Sandra as excellent hosts and guides. The tour party was small (8 in total) and we covered a range of really scenic stops including the Castlerigg stone circle, Derwentwater, Ullswater, and many more. Along the way, Sandra navigated the tricky roads expertly and Gillian gave us mini history lessons of the various places we were visiting. Their knowledge comes from a deep affinity with the place and love for the natural environment of the Lake District. We packed in quite a bit in 4 hours and had time for rest breaks and photography. All in all, a really great experience and highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the time I spent with Tim on this tour. He struck just the right balance of good information without overwhelming us with chatting and jokes. The tour itself is absolutely gorgeous and he gave us plenty of time at each of the stops. Highly highly recommended

This tour is an excellent way to experience the beauty and culture of the renowned Lake District in northwestern England. We had no idea how stunning the district truly is, and now we understand why friends vacationed there every year!
Our driver Tim was safe, knowledgeable, and very entertaining while conducting the tour. We highly recommend English Lakes Tours for your introduction to the Lake Districit!!

The price is relatively high. However, I really enjoyed the tour, in a few hours i managed to see 8 lakes and had an overview of what I might expect in Lake District. It’s perfect for solo traveller and also for family. The driver shares stories about the Lake District and Windermere during the journey and made it really enjoyable. Would probably love to have more free time when we stop at lakes and if the guide could lead us for a short walk around would be perfect!

This was a small, almost personal tour of 8 lakes. There is another tour company that is cheaper, but I believe there could be up to 16 people on those. There were only 3 other people on the minivan tour (max is 6-7). The driver was great and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Both were ladies -apologies I've forgotten names already. Beautiful scenery, and they got us to Grasmere just before closing!
My tip if you are a social butterfly like me, sit in the front row. While the speakers were loud and clear in both rows, we missed all the side commentary sitting in the back row.

Gillian and Sandra were the amazing duo leading this tour and they were fantastic! Having enjoyed several tours in the lake district over the past year ( some repeated) when all is said to appreciate the blessings of mother nature in this part of the country, it's the tour guides who make the experience more memorable and special. You would think I've seen and heard alot and yet today's tour was up there as one of the best and I learnt alot more. These ladies clearly love the lakes and have plenty of stories to tell. Gillian answered my questions thoroughly and passionately and shared lots of tips and suggestions about further sightseeing and adventures to try. The scenery was breathtaking and the ride was comfortable with clear and warm commentary throughout. I highly recommend this tour. Thank you!
