- KeepTravelling9990 contributionsWell worth doing29/9/2022 'Thomas' was impressive in his Longbowman outfit which made it all the more realistic. We learnt a lot and he showed us how he used his tools of the trade and other artefacts. He took us to many places and pointed out interesting areas. There is a lot of walking but it is well worth it.Written 30 September 2022

Thomas was such an engaging and endearing guide this this highly educational and wonderful tour! We had this tour on a monday in the off-peak season which is a big ask, but he was so delighted to be out with us from the start.
No mater what question asked he had a bright grin and a ready answer. He loves history and it shows in how much he knows about the area and the medieval history. He was so engaging with his story telling, he involved us all in it and made it real, pitting his crowd against each other in such a unique fashion it had us all laughing one minute and shaking our fists at each other the next! I myself was King Richard who loathed the dastardly Bolingbroke, who that day was a charming and apologetic American on an outing with his very sweet family.
I never cared for history in school or in those educational tv shows but this was so outside how we usually consume the past I would highly recommend it even to someone who isn't invested in the past. You will be whisked up in the events of the dramas of by-gone years with Thomas' easy and lovely demeanour.

We had an excellent tour with our Cheshire Bowman, Stephen Langton. We were treated to a wealth of information for more than two hours covering a wide range of aspects of medieval Chester. Archery, the Rows, the Cathedral, the Battle of Shrewsbury, the Walls and a load more. This was great value for money and the guide is clearly passionate about his subject. Thank you for your generosity with time and information!

This walking tour was fantastic. Richard and Steven were friendly, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. They brought the medieval history of Chester to life, with detailed but easy to follow information on the story of Harry Hotspur and his links with Chester. Authentic artefacts so that we could really appreciate what they were telling us. One of the guys was giving this tour for the first time - you would never have known this if they hadn’t told us. Brilliant tour, easy walking. Highly recommend.

“Stephen Langton”, his character’s name, truly knows his stuff AND tells a tale about medieval Chester which is both entertaining and informative. From the perspective of a Cheshire longbow man, “Stephen” tells us about this fascinating city in a period of dramatic change. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it and urge you to make it part of your next trip to Chester, Cheshire, England.

We loved our tour with Thomas.
It was such a privilege to see somebody so passionate about his hobby and experience this joy with him. If only everybody could be like Thomas and not be afraid to be engrossed about something slightly different.
This was primarily a medieval history tour/talk so don't expect to learn much about Roman history, although you will see the city walls and amphitheatre.
If you want a Roman history experience then this is not the tour for you. If you want to listen to a young man passionately share his love of medieval warfare with you then get yourself booked on this trip

Thomas was our guide we were lucky it was only myself and my husband, Thomas was a wealth of knowledge we had his full attention. It was especially good as Thomas was in character the whole time telling is about his job and going into battle it was brilliant. We walked around chester to places we hadn't seen before including inside St John's Cathedral we would highly recommend to anyone we really enjoyed it and will be back to do the Roman.

I went on this tour because I had a friend from France visiting and I wanted a unique way to show her the city. This tour definitely exceeded expectations and both me and my friend loved it! Richard was so friendly, interesting and informative. He also managed to mix humour with the storytelling so it made it a fun experience. We even got to hold a longbow! I definitely reccommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn more about Chester's medieval history.

We went in not knowing exactly what to expect. I'm a fan of medieval history but not very well versed in British history since I'm from Italy. So even given my lack of knowledge, the tour was very interesting. Thomas is a very driven and passionate fellow, who knows his stuff and is ready to engage and explain the historical and more human side of the events that made Chester a relevant part of the late Middle Ages.
The whole tour is though out and acted, in a way, through the eyes of the average peasant and what was it like to be a lowborn longbowman. Thomas was fully dressed as a longbowman of the period and, throughout the tour, he would also showcase the relevant equipment, making it a lot more "immersive" if you will.
Overall great experience and our stay in Chester wouldn't have been the same without it.

We had a wonderful time with Edward on the Medieval Walking Tour of Chester, earlier this week. He was really interesting, very knowledgeable and full of humour, giving us a really splendid afternoon. Thank you, Edward. We would recommend this tour to any other visitors to Chester and it is excellent value for money.

This was so much fun. Thomas was dressed as a longbow man and talked to us in character, really bringing that period of history to life. He had lots of interesting things to show us - armour, weapons, coins, arrow heads, etc - and you could hold them, eg to feel how heavy the helmets were. We learnt a lot about what it was like to live in that time and what was going on with the nobility in charge of Chester. It was great to be in a small group so we could ask questions. Thomas was very knowledgeable and passionate about history. I would highly recommend this tour.
